12 Days of Whiskey 2011

#1 Edited by Video_Game_King (29858 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Turns out a new quest set is up, but it doesn't seem to be live, yet.

To be fair, Perry, you never told me HOW to do it :P. However, he did tell me how to do it for the next set of hints:

Ryu was pretty hardcore on the NES.

They're like frogs, and are ready for war (Also racing).

This boy's pretty super, and loves all kinds of animal tissue.

I don't like being pegged as an attacker.

Well, at least I know this arm cannon can survive nine adventures.

On the Contrary, I'd say this game is quite difficult.

I don't like going to trial, but at least it's in high definition.

Spirits N' Orks wait that's not right...

Virgil's not going to happy about his brother waking up.

If falcon's had fists, they'd punch this Gamecube title.

What's better than a bonfire? Two of them.

Hope that helps!

Goes live in half an hour according to twitter.

#3 Posted by Video_Game_King (29858 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

@mosespippy:

I'm guessing that they're slowly rolling it out in that time, since another quest has popped up.

#4 Posted by ProfessorEss (6462 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

I went to all the Die Hard pages and nothing popped.

Day 12: HD Collections - A certain concept page may help, or even just searching for games with names that use HD might help.

Day 11: Playful Pooches- Famous Friendly Faithful Followers

Day 11: Playful Pooches
The Blue Bomber's faithful companion
A fedora and tie wearing dog, always seen with his companion/weapon bunny
Sharing a name with the Ninja from Final Fantasy 6, this puppy is DEADly cute TO more than he has any RIGHTS to be.
This old Hound Dog loves hailing to The King of an post-apocalyptic wasteland, even though he's more machine than dog.
This pipe smoking pooch can tell you many Tales about Vesperia.
Just like the extra stage in Yoshi's Island says, this Pooch ain't stupid!
This loyal and loud dog helps the player do some GHOSTly TRICKs. (Also fill in the blank: Intercontinental Ballistic _______)
Attack this dog or his friends and you'll find out he takes on a whole 'nother PERSONA
Irradiated Man's Best Friend, his companionship spans across three nuclear wastelands
The most iconic and perhaps most hated of all NES snickering hunting dogs.
This Pup isn't even a puppy at all, but might be seen playing fetch with, of all things, a crowbar?

Day 10: Merciless Marvels - Rage inducing, Controller Throwing, Make you Feel Like a Boss when Beaten, Games

Day 10: Merciless Marvels
War-ready Amphibians on NES
Meat this hero and his lovely kidnapped band-aided bride.
One of the most brutal Ninja NES games
The Blue Bomber's fight against a woman for the first time, sure made a Splash.
One of the most famous shooters to employ the Konami Code
_______ and Tribulations in Highest of Defs
Falcon Punch on the gamecube (Not the Smash Series)
Even demons can shed a tear or two (the 3rd one)
I got souls here, guaranteed to make you rage quit (The game and its sequel)

Day 9: Deductive Detectives - Super sleuths throughout the gaming world

Day 9: Deductive Detectives
The world's greatest detective, the archetype.
The world's other greatest detective (Comes in regular-ass, Green Lantern, and Russian Martian styles)
His daughter is Batgirl
Detective Badge 1247, "HOW CAN I HELP DETECTIVE?"
"I've covered wars you know"
Someone who can help you with these damn matchstick puzzles
The "Wario" to Badge 1247 as it were. (Claims investigator who helps unravel a conspiracy)
His Triptocaine addiction RAINs on his HEAVY search for the origami killer.
The John Woo Cop of Rockstar games

Day 8: Explosive Absurdities - Games that are "slightly" ridiculous (I'm going to informally call this the mostly Japanese game quest)

Day 8: Explosive Absurdities
Strap it On (You Really need to play this game)
LA, LALALALALALALALALALALALA ____________ __________ (You're a prince in service of the King!)
You Stretch Boy to make Girl grow
This "Lightsaber" wielding user is an "American Football Score" of assassins
"Do you believe in Dubstep after love?"
This Dreamcast shooter really made use of the, keyboard?
BONER GUN AND TALKING SKULLS
And of course, "This is a fun quest, don't you think so Zach?"

Day 7: Breakout Brothers - Its a me, BROTHER! (You will get many out of seven just by knowing all the pieces of a family)

Day 7: Breakout Brothers
The SUPERest of Bros, even if the plumber duo is named after only one.
These brothers are sure to enjoy Skyrim more than DOUBLE anyone else. (If you need the answer, here)
These two are twin BROTHERS might use CQC on each other. Even though they didn't know it, despite CQC taking place before their time and... TIME PARADOXXXXXXXXXXX
These half-human half-demon brothers are the cause of many tears throughout the underworld

Day 6: Faithful Mounts - A TRUCK IS KIND OF A MOUNT, SHUT UP. Oh, for the quest find famous mounts or a certain concept page.

Day 6: Faithful Mounts
Its a me, and my mount that I let die when I need an extra jump!
A mount that lets Yoshi ride for a change. (See Yoshi's Island) (Also, He ain't stupid!)
This horse is often found in the SHADOWs of "Colossal beings"
HEY LISTEN, STOP RIDING AWAY ON THAT HORSE, LISTTENNNNNN (think of the mount not the fairy)
Named after another Jungle dweller, they both leave only destruction in their wake.
I challenge you to a sword duel, _________! (Both this are the Jungle hint are related to a certain Tie wearing Gorilla on SNES)

Day 5: Golden Things - Y'ARR THEM BE GOLD IN THEM THERE PAGES...names... (Also, Trade your Games for Gold!)

Day 5: Golden Things (Gold, thy NAME is vanity)
The original N64 console shooter, shaken not stirred.
The most vivid half tucked shirt ever rendered on a next gen handheld
This GBA game had an add-on for SUN light.
Take an endurance run game, but now remake it for a next gen handheld. That makes it GOLDEN in my book
There's a Dwarf, Amazon and Barbarian, and presumably they wield an Axe coated with some kind of metal.

Day 4: Feral Consoles - These old and (sometimes bad) "platforms" may bring out the beast in you.

Day 4: Feral Consoles
Courtesy of Buzz_Clik - "[This console name] sure made me quack up"
Its a WONDER that dual d-pad handheld got a color version.
If you DO THE MATH, this 64 bit console is 4 times more powerful than its 16 bit competitors.
Similar to its other Atari cat console, you might see this cat, golfing? (hit the _______)

Day 3: AirBorne Collectibles - Keep searching the SKY for these airborne games.

Day 3: Airborne Collectibles
Dragons and dragonborn fighting giants and horses? (I used to find this funny, but then arrow to the knee, etc)
The swan song of the Wii, I raise my weapon toward the sky in a salute.
Spyro returns! Along with DROBOT, STUMPSMASH, YEAH YEAHEEHEHE

Day 2: Displaced Survivors - Greg Kasavin is a pretty cool guy and this quest is all about his game.

Day 2: Displaced Survivors
Even though he's only a "little boy", you'd think he's "mega huge" from the developer's name.
You'd definitely want this character talking all cool about your actions

Day 1: And a game that took 14 years to make(Quest is now completely live, about 14 years quicker than the game in this day 1 quest!)

Day 1: And a game that took [insert current number of years] to make
Arguably the poster child for this
#6 Posted by Video_Game_King (29858 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

@AlwaysBeClothing:

These quests seem like they're gonna be straightforward enough that hints won't be required, especially since there's a concept page for each one.

#7 Posted by yevinorion (632 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Well at least they didn't make this one limited edition so it could bug out and forever end people's dreams of having Abe Lincoln telling them how awesome they are.

#8 Posted by mosespippy (2702 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Are they activating daily? Right now only day 12 seems to be popping for me.

#9 Posted by Daniel (1523 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Quest is totally live now, folks. Enjoy!

If you have any bugs, please contact me. If you need hints, ask the intern Perry, as he put this Quest together.

#10 Posted by OldGuy (1241 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago
@mosespippy: That's how they've always* done it before.

*meaning last year.
#11 Posted by Daniel (1523 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

@mosespippy: Yes I'll be adding in the new steps each day. Starting today with 12 and working down to 1 on Christmas morning.

#12 Posted by Video_Game_King (29858 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

@Daniel:

Oh, so that's why the quests aren't working today? I thought it was because the site was down.

#13 Posted by vegoku (94 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

I love this quest set. Oh the 12 days of whiskey :) fantastic

#14 Edited by Pessh (2417 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Can only find 11 hd collections =(

Nevermind lol

So only 12 is unlock-able today? Cool deal. Something to keep me coming back.

Crap, though. It really is less than 2 weeks until Christmas. Just over 2 weeks to 2012. Time flies when you're fighting dragons.

#16 Edited by VincentLonga (61 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

So is one quest rolling out per day for this set? GREAT idea, like an advent calendar. But some clarity would be great here :)

EDIT: Ok, now I see. Yup, one per day for 12 days :)

via Twitter: "Twelve Days of Whiskey 2011 Quest is now live on giantbomb. Get started today on "12 HD Collections" and come back tomorrow for #11.:

One day done, eleven to go :D

I don't like how 2 of them are practically the same thing, but as long as I figured it out I guess its not a big deal.

#19 Edited by DuderMcBrohan (18 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Why the hell does wipeout HD not count as a HD remake?

EDIT: Disregard this. There's nothing here.

#20 Posted by Video_Game_King (29858 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

@DuderMcBrohan:

Because this is about collections of games. (I am curious to see if Super Mario All-Stars counts for this, though, since it was the original HD collection.)

#22 Posted by mosespippy (2702 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

@DuderMcBrohan: Is it a collection of more than 1 wipeout game?

#23 Posted by The_Reflection (183 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

You can really just shotgun your way through this one today.

SNES isn't HD...

@DarkDude:

It had the same idea, though.

#26 Posted by TwoSe7enFive (57 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

hmmm, only found 10 ... any hints if there are a couple more obscure ones?

This sucks cause I never get on the computer whenever I am off of work so I won't be able to complete this quest. Oh well I'll just be happy spending time with my family.

#30 Posted by ESREVER (2389 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Oh thank goodness this is 1 quest a day at a time. I was afraid my whole day was gonna be shot thanks to this. Whew!

I used that concept page and got only 11. help.

Edit: Nevermind that. Got it. One of those didn't work first time around.

#32 Posted by Potts (155 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Tomorrow's looks interesting, and probably a little tougher: 11 dog companions? I can only think of two off hand.

#33 Posted by Nictel (1608 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

you gotta love those concept pages

#34 Posted by DuderMcBrohan (18 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

On a side note, I thought it was weird that the art for God Complex is a magic the gathering card.

#35 Posted by Soviet666 (234 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Why is the obvious game not triggering the 14 years quest? Is it just me?

#36 Posted by DuderMcBrohan (18 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

@Soviet666 said:

You can't do that one yet. That'll be the last one that can be done.

#37 Edited by Soviet666 (234 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

I see... So i can do just one today? :). Cheeky giantbomb :P.

EDIT: Can't find the last one :(.

You have that problem, too? I also have all the Limited Ed quests, but it keeps telling me I don't have 6 Non Explosives Sploding, which was never a quest on Giant Bomb. I haven't missed Abe Lincoln this much since the day he was shot.

#39 Posted by guyver0 (128 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

i thought the new halo would be one but no

#40 Posted by BombcastGoldthwait (212 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

I think it has to be a collection.

#41 Posted by Ravenlight (7262 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Quest boner: Activate!

#42 Posted by sins_of_mosin (1513 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

That wasn't bad at all. I hope the rest of the days are as simple/fun.

#43 Posted by Baltimore (219 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Loved the first quest! Can't wait for tomorrow!

#44 Posted by YoungFrey (1241 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

Why is this before Christmas?  Those days are after December 25th.

From Wikipedia:

The Twelve Days of Christmas are the festive days beginning Christmas Day (25 December). This period is also known as Christmastide and Twelvetide. The Twelfth Night of Christmas is always on the evening of 5 January, but the Twelfth Day can either precede or follow the Twelfth Night according to which Christian tradition is followed. Twelfth Night is followed by the Feast of the Epiphany on 6 January. In some traditions, the first day of Epiphany (6 January) and the twelfth day of Christmas overlap.

#45 Posted by Video_Game_King (29858 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

@YoungFrey:

Why are you trying to extend the Christmas season!?

#46 Posted by Vexxan (4578 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

@Guyver0yk said:

Was the first one I went to as well, guess it doesn't count since it's not an HD collection.

#47 Posted by GooieGreen (388 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

@Vexxan: Granted, there was a collection or two that I thought of that didn't trigger anything. But that is par for the course here.

#48 Posted by Brake (935 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

@Daniel: What time do the new ones go live?

#49 Posted by YoungFrey (1241 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

@Video_Game_King said:

@YoungFrey:

I'm not trying to extend it. I'm saying that anyone who traditionally celebrated 12 days of Christmas did it starting on Christmas, not ending on it. Growing up, the Nativity scene in my house didn't have wise men until January 5th. They sat on a shelf across the room to symbolism their journey.

#50 Posted by TheHakku (356 posts) - 1 year, 6 months ago

They did this "Twelve Days of Whiskey" quest set the same way last year. Why does it matter? :/
