The description says that I could not have solved any of the previous quests without using this common game mechanic.  I tried Research and got nothing.  I've definitely hit a mental road block, can anyone give me some hints please?
Edit:  This is the quest set "Time to call Ziggy"  it's the community quest set that's on the main homepage.  Where the first 5000 people to solve this by April 21st get a 1000pts.

@Nunchuckles: What was the theme of the quest set?
#3 Posted by Creamypies (4094 posts) -

Marty McFly would know.

@FrankCanada97: Time to Call Ziggy, its the new quest set that's on the new homepage.

@Nunchuckles: That was the hint. :P Would you like another?

I'll give you a hint. Doctor Who does '_____' a LOT.

#7 Posted by FluxWaveZ (19395 posts) -
This thread has a few hints.  It's basically what you had to do, fiction-wise, to complete the quest.

@FrankCanada97: Damn, everyone has given me so many hints.  And I'm just staring at each one with a blank face.  I feel like such a dumb ass haha.  Well, I'm going to do some research on each hint so I'll check back in a bit later.  Thanks to everyone.

@Mayu_Zane Thanks that was the hint I needed. It should have been obvious now that I think about it.

#10 Posted by Creamypies (4094 posts) -
@Nunchuckles: Donnie Darko is really interested in it.
#11 Posted by Nunchuckles (194 posts) -

Thanks you guys, I got it.  At first I typed in what you USE to do the THING a while ago, and I was so confused.

I completed it using the hints posted here, but what through me off was calling it a game mechanic.  It doesn't make sense, where has it been a game mechanic.

#13 Posted by Wraith1 (581 posts) -

its been used in the back to the future movies

More importantly, the philosophy of it. (too obvious? No, if you like Donnie DArko than you deserve to get all the quests anyway)
#15 Posted by nintendoeats (5975 posts) -
@DOUBLESHOCK: Totally agree, its an uncommon story mechanic.
#16 Posted by EpicSteve (6500 posts) -

When you get it, you'll feel really dumb for over-thinking.

#17 Posted by TheMasterDS (2194 posts) -

Side effects include bouts of disappearing.

#18 Posted by FluxWaveZ (19395 posts) -
@DOUBLESHOCK: Are you serious?  I'd put up a list of games, but then it would be too obvious.  Come on, a ton of games have this as a mechanic.
#19 Posted by Nunchuckles (194 posts) -
@DOUBLESHOCK:  I definitely agree.  It's not really a "common" game mechanic.
#20 Posted by Creamypies (4094 posts) -
@Nunchuckles: Yeah it is. Game Room uses it.
#21 Posted by CornBREDX (6244 posts) -

wow just put up not long ago and im still #793 to complete =P
ya after the initial clue and the clues here if you dont get this I'm not sure how much obvious it would get without giving it away   =P
Not a popular game mechanic though. I haven't seen THAT many games with it. It is a game mechanic that I enjoy however.

Spoiler that shit.

First off, it's "game mechanic", not "story mechanic".  Those are way different.  And to give you a list, since you don't seem to think that it's been in a game before:
#23 Posted by TheHT (11976 posts) -
@FluxWaveZ: in some of those games it's a game mechanic (the ones where you're actively controlling it) but in others it's a story mechanic (where you've no control, it's just done to progress the story). either way though, it's used in games alot.

And I don't know if anyone has noticed, but each post you put up, it shows your level to the far right by your user name.

I can't really tell since it's dark gray on a black background.  Why haven't they fixed the color palette already?

#27 Posted by Nunchuckles (194 posts) -
@KingBroly: I think they'll get to it.
#28 Posted by Nunchuckles (194 posts) -
Well then ok. I have a PS3 and I was thinking about all the games in the past year, and I couldn't think of one game that had it.
#29 Posted by bigall94 (256 posts) -

Here's a blatantly obvious hint then: "One of the most important concepts in the later seasons of LOST is ____ ______".

#30 Posted by FluxWaveZ (19395 posts) -
@TheHT:  True, but i think only a couple of the games I mention don't have it as an actual game mechanic.

The 'common' thing really throws people off. It's really quite uncommon.

i typed the object instead of the concept and i couldn't understand why it wouldn't give it to me. duh!
