Microsoft: "New IP's? Here's some money if you cancel PS4/PC versions of your game. No one but our xboners may enjoy this game."
So...basically what Sony did with No Man's Sky? This will probably come to PC at some point like DR3 and Rise at the very least.
No, but lets put it this way: If Microsoft was producing Life Was Strange then people would understand why it is only on the XBox One. People aren't really that freaked out about Quantum Break either. The problem is that Square-Enix went through a very public and somewhat embarrassing episode where they lamented they sold millions of copies of Tomb Raider and still consider it a failure. So what is their new strategy going forward? Could it be make a smarter or better game? Could it be make a game on better budget? No it was: Make it as big or bigger with Microsoft's cash and going with a smaller distribution base by going exclusive.
In that sense, Square-Enix execs have a point they that they are okay with a plan or strategy if it shifts a bunch of the risk (production cost) to Microsoft instead but that shows how much they care about the ip/franchise.
