What's you guys' favorite Shin Megami game? I personally love Devil Survivor for the DS.
Favorite Shin Megami Game?
Persona 3.
Kinda wish I had a PS2 when all those other ones came out though.
The only one I've played during that time is Demi Kids (Yes, it's an SMT game).
The most recent one I finished was Devil Survivor. The game has problems (Like how I composed my party the way I wanted then it forces me to use certain characters in a certain main plot, had to go back and grind forever!). But I found it pretty good. I like the more urgent nature of character interactions compared to P3 (and even more so than P4).
I've only played Persona 4, Nocturne, and Digital Devil Saga 1.
The favorite would be either P4 or Nocturne. I can't really pick one or the other, they're both too awesome.
Nocturne!
Of course, since the other main line SMT games were never released in the West and I haven't played Strange Journey yet, that's a bit of a cop-out.
Note: I consider the Persona, Digital Devil Saga, Raidou games "non-canon", so to speak. The SMT label was only put on those games in the West.
" @LordAndrew: Yes they are. They're a spinoff. There's actually very few main SMT games, so if I limited it to that then it'd be Nocturne every time. "Shin Megami Tensei is a spin-off, Megami Tensei is the umbrella series. Take a look at the page.
" Since those three, every game has been labeled under the Shin Megami Tensei brand. "Thanks to Atlus USA. Shin Megami Tensei is still its own series though, and that's the series this franchise page covers.
I assume it came about because SMT1, 2, and If were all popular in Japan, so when they started to make more spinoff games they decided to keep the name as an identifier.
"Since that game, every game has used the Shin Megami Tensei brand, both in Japan and outside."Only the games listed on this franchise page use the Shin Megami Tensei brand in Japan. Or can you find me evidence that Atlus considers the Persona games part of the SMT series?
Hate to be unoriginal here, but P4 is my favorite. I'll give a shout out to Raidou 2, though,- because I know that game doesn't get the love it deserves!

The last SMT game to carry SMT in its title in Japan is Nocturne.

Completely slipped my mind!
Plus, on a site like this, where many people (such as myself) have only experienced anything SMT because of the ER, I have a feeling that P4 would get the most responses.
" @LordAndrew: It says Shin Megami Tensei right on the box. That's good enough for me. "That's why the thread should be moved. The Megami Tensei series was clearly the TC's intention (thanks for the confusion, Atlus USA), so I'm not about to force everyone to pick actual Shin Megami Tensei games. The only acceptable answer to that question would be Nocturne.

"P4 would probably get the most votes on any general gaming forum. Its probably the most popular/well-liked among the masses.
On a SMT-centric fansite, I'd wager Nocturne would take the crown.
I'll have to go with Noctune.
It was my first Shin Megami Tensei game, and it's still awesome.
And then I'm fond of Persona 3 and 4.
And I'm somewhere in the middle of Digital Devil Saga and Strange Journey.
Persona 4 takes the top spot, really appreciated the little social life gameplay changes between 3 and 4. Devil Survivor is a close second.
" @LordAndrew: No it wasn't. Not whatsoever. I even said my favorite game was an SMT game, Devil Survivor. "Devil Survivor is not part of the Shin Megami Tensei series. It's part of Megami Tensei. The Japanese title is Megami Ibunroku Devil Survivor, indicating it is a Megami Tensei sidestory, but not part of Shin Megami Tensei which is its own thing.
Atlus USA only chose to tack "Shin Megami Tensei" onto the titles of all their Megami Tensei localizations after they released Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, which really is an SMT game. Prior to that they had attempted to put some of them into the "Revelations" series, so they're obviously fine with making up names. Whether Atlus USA calls it "Revelations" or "Shin Megami Tensei", it refers to the Megami Tensei series.
Oh! I just noticed the thread title says "Shin Megami", which means "true goddess"... or to look at it another way, it means nothing. There has never been such a thing as Shin Megami!

"Not even that, really. Since the original Megami Tensei, as far as I know, and there was at least one other game in between MT and SMT. I'm not even sure what the hell that title means anymore.
As for the thread, though, Persona 4, hands down.
