What could the story implications be? Her Critical Art and electricity powers in general clearly resemble Blanka's. Her full name is also Laura Matsuda, making her not only someone of mixed Japanese/Brazilian descent but also possibly linking her to SFIII's Sean.
Projectiles and grapples? Hm. Looks like a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen. I wonder if they're just gonna toss up the trailer or hold it until next week.
After boring geif earlier today this is exactly what I'm after with this game. The new blood is the most exciting thing here. Really crazy amount of grapple characters so far.

:v
It's true though. So much rushdown, so many grapplers.
Loving the hair and face. As much as I appreciate titties though, her design from the neck down is kinda really extremely boring. I mean, I guess it's sorta different...maybe? But all it really says to me is that her design doc just had "boobs" written on in giant letters and they went with the first draft they got.
Whatever though, I just want to see her in action. If she's fun to play then she's fun to play and that's all that matters in the end.
@babychoochoo: It's a pretty standard capoeira outfit. Her belt is not a capoeira belt though. That + her submission-type moves make me think she will have a fighting style that's a mix of capoeira and brazilian jiu jitsu. The fireball and possible electricity powers (although that could just be a visual effect) could add some spice to the mix.
@hassun: I know what her outfit is supposed to be. I'm just sayin I still think it's boring. You can stay true to the capoeira look and feel and still get flashy with the design. Just look at Christie from Tekken.
Her outfit is kinda boring. Needs more color besides green. Like, make her pants blue and I'm good.
As for the clipping, I mean, jiggle-physics'd things are gonna clip if you don't give them a collision model. It's not that her boob's too big. Look at the hair in pic 3.
Normally I hate bellyaching about revealing female outfits in games but man, SF4 had this sexy but still reserved look that I really appreciated. Cammy was always super lithe and even in some SF4 alternate outfits she still is very fit and "classy sexy" despite the revealing costume. Now they jacked all the females up in SF5 and I can sorta agree it looks a little cheap. Not sure if the artists or art director changed, but I vastly preferred the designs in SF4 to these which are kind of what you've come to expect.
I appreciate that she seems to have some things in common with Blanka, like the color scheme, nationality and electricity. I like her hair. Don't have a lot to say other than that. She reminds me of other capoeira fighting game characters, so it's sort of a generic look, nothing amazingly weird or cool. Before her trailer is out, I'm filing her somewhere above Necalli and slightly below Rashid in how I feel about the new guys. Not that excited about any of them, mind.
That Brazil stage, on the other hand, looks really nice.
She looks rad so far, finally a Brazlian character that isn't total garbage (Blanka) or handled super strangely (Sean). I obviously haven't seen her gameplay/in motion yet but I have to say her name is pretty boring especially when you got dope Brazilian names/nicknames to fall back on like Jairzinho and this one is pretty plain. Can't wait for the Brasil Game Show!
Oh and she reminds me a lot of Marta (female Brazilian footballer) too for some reason, something in her facial structure I guess.
Stop breastshaming Laura, you guys! The outfit is kind of boring, though, it feels like a mix between Juri's and your average shoto gi. Now the real question, is she Blanka's daughter or Sean's girlfriend?
@humanity: I agree with you 100%. In SF4 the women were sexy but not overtly so. Now it's all OMG TITTIES!!! They're supposed to be athletic. Sorry but Chun ain't wall jumping with pendulous HHH boobs like that. It's devolved into soul calibur levels of ridiculousness.
I'm actually really excited about her. Her and Karin are probably going to be the first characters I pick up, assuming someone even more interesting isn't announced.
I like her hairdo and face, really good outfit of her country colours, but tits like that would hurt to jiggle freely in combat like that. Mika's got an outfit fit for fighting and in SNK the ladies often bind their breasts. That's what's getting on my mind, not "OMG TITTIES WHERE IS MY STEED" (or like on another forum, calling it racist because she's too pale, uhm)
@hippie_genocide: I mean criticize the designs if you want but what are we going on about realism here for? Everything about street fighter is completely detached from realism.
@humanity: I think people tend to confuse trashy/pandering with sexy from time to time. I guess part of this is personal preference but I do think there is a distinction. I generally have very few problems with characters being sexy (although I definitely don't think all or even most characters in fighting games should be sexy) but I do have a problem with pandering. Leering camera angles/shots, unrealistic jiggle physics, ridiculously flimsy outfits, etc.
I think Cammy is a good example of this difference. Her design is sexy but she also looks very capable and badass. Her chest or hips or behind are not massively exaggerated either. But then the camera angles and some of the poses they have for her are very pandering with their creepy focus on ass cheeks and crotch shots.
In terms of character designs the Street Fighter series has traditionally been more conservative so it was disappointing to see them move closer to the porn section in SFIV. Just look at the designs af C.Viper and Juri and you'll notice just how much more sexualised they are than nearly all previous SF character designs. SFV seems to be continuing that path by increasing the cup sizes, making the outfits flimsier and animations creepier. (Karin being the exception to this but she adheres to an established archetype so it's hard to make any conclusions based on that.)
Then you have the DOA females who basically all look like porcelain dolls with gigantic breasts, revealing outfits and child-like faces. Pretty much 100% pandering and as far as I know they are not trying to deny or hide it either. Tekken and SoulCalibur have gone back and forth between terrible pandering and functional/classy designs and KoF has always been on that androgynous J-pop artist look although they went into "moe" creeper territory with some characters in XIII as well.
FGC Calendar brought up a question when it comes to this stuff:
Are any women consulted on any of these female character designs like the Arab community was on Rashid/Shaheen?
@demoskinos: I'm not talking about realism. Believe it or not I'm actually aware you can't channel your chi into balls of fire. That's all well and good. But the design should serve the suspension of disbelief, not be at odds with it. Ryu training his body to physical perfection actually helps him be a better fighter. Megatits helps these ladies.....how again? It's just over the top stupid. If a middling fighting game wants to trade on sexploitation to get better sales numbers that's whatever, but Street Fighter should be above that.
Ranted about Laura's looks on Twitter but yeah... It just looks like every female character was designed and then some 12 year old stepped in at the last minute and went 'Yeah, that's cool but now give her mega tits!!'. It's total shit.
