Basically I'm in it for fun but don't mind a more serious one-on-one match every once in a while.

I wasn't very familiar with the friend code system and apparently people have to manually enter your code as well to actually become friends if they don't know your in-game name.

added everyone on this thread since my last post. We need to make a thread or a chat irc window where we can just communicate matchmaking cause unless someone wants to sit in a queve room and wait for people to join the matchmaking for people it is damn near impossible. How do you make this game without any sort of invite system is beyond me but from what I've seen without a direct line of communication most people just go all random on unranked and ranked matches. Anyways at least I have more friends for farming in the new pokemon games >_>

I've added everyone. I've yet to play with anyone here because the With Friends seems most usable when you're able to ask people to join outside of the game (e.g on AIM) to come play due to the lack of any sort of invite system within the game. Perhaps we should set up something to let everyone we've added know we're looking to throw down? Or we could make a Steam Group we could all join and IM each other if we're down to throw down.

Edit: Yeah, a chatroom would work too. I guess. I'd favor the Steam group though personally. Although a Steam Group could sort of do both really come to think of it since Groups have chat rooms.

@asilentprotagonist If people want to chat with other people from the community or set up some sort of multiplayer match or tournament in the future I set up a IRC channel on Quakenet @ #GB.SSB.

Feel free to use it to chat and plan matches accordingly with other players.

I still favor the Steam Group since it'd mean of people you could specifically proactively ping to try to do Smash with. I also think it's easier to have a chat room open in your Steam IM window all the time than one in your browser, especially since there's an extra step of choosing a name every time you enter. No new favorites either, and if you're playing a specific person and want to chat between matches you don't have to spam the chatroom if there's other people in there that aren't involved in the matches, you can just talk directly because it's Steam.

Also I got a great name for the group. Link's Custom Down: The Giant Bomb Smash 4 Group.

I went ahead and made it. If people join we'll have a nice list of everyone here who's down for Smash, the ability to tell if they're online, the ability to contact them instantly, voice chat if anyone would rather talk during matches rather than just typing between them, and a chat room to boot! It should be great. Loads of advantages, no disadvantages beyond requiring a Steam account which everyone has by this point.

Edit: no one joined so whatever. I just ended up changing my description to 1vs1 no items to explain what my open room is for. If you see me with an open room try and join. Sometimes I'm waiting for a specific person but in other cases I'm just waiting for anyone. Look for a Brian.

@asilentprotagonist: I was the only member after five days so I decided to delete it earlier today. Or rather I changed the URL and left the group. I dunno what happens when a group has zero members but I typed in the new URL I thought I gave it and it turned out blank so I dunno. On the bright side if anyone else wants to restart the group the Steam Group URL LinksCustomDown is available once more.
