I personally don't like it. I feel like if it had showed one of the main enemies, for example the boxhead guy, instead of just his screaming face it would have looked nicer. Hell, even if it was just the main title in red with a black background I would have preferred it more. So, what do you guys think?
What do you guys think of the cover art?
It's dull even if it sort of represents something about the game. It comes off uninspired.
If it wasn't for the fact that I buy games for different reasons these days than I used to I might not have picked it up. Although, I already knew about this game and that I wanted to play it.
As a way to attract attention if I knew nothing about it, and I still picked up games at retail stores, I wouldn't be attracted to picking up the box to check it out.
It reminds me of all the bad horror movie cover art there is now-a-days. I don't care for it.
@cornbredx: I can definitely see the "bad horror movie cover" idea.
I think the font work is cool but I don't really like the rest of it. It's just kinda meh. I don't really have an opinion on it. It's also a design I feel like I've seen on a lot of other horror movies and games.
I really like the logo.
I like the logo enough to give it a pass but a black box with just the logo on it would be super boss.

Kinda fits with the game itself at least, as its story and the visuals are all of the ''bad mega gory grindhouse horror movie'' ilk. It is still a little generic, though, but I can't say I've really thought about it very much.
It doesn't really tell me that much about the game. Certainly wouldn't catch my eye if I was just shopping in a store with zero knowledge of what it was.
I should add I don't like the font because it looks to much like something else:
Coincidence? Maybe, but that's generally something you try to consider when you design fonts for things alongside the title and the cover design. I feel like it's something they should have noticed- being Bethesda and all.
I don't know. Maybe I should not add anymore, but I keep thinking of reasons I dislike that cover. haha
I've yet to play any of it, but it seems like most interesting thing about the game is the whole "is this real?!" idea, and that cover expresses none of that at all.
I'd also add it to the endless list of horror game/movie/whatever posters with a person who is supposed to be screaming but looks more like they've got a bad yawn going on.
Also! I just went looking to see if the Japanese cover was different. Apparently, it's not. BUT, at some point Zenimax held a contest to vote on an "alternate" cover, and the winner would be included as an insert inside the box. I'll just post them here cuz internet.
I think those are all pretty great, and VASTLY more evocative than Mr. yawning spikey face.
Oh well.
It' fine .. I will never understand you guys/people picking apart the cover art . It's really nothing to overthink about .IT REALLY ISN'T ! whatever lol
@spankingaddict: It's just for fun for those that are predisposed to it.
If you don't enjoy the conversation there's no need to come in to tell people not to talk about it. That is considered dismissive and against the forum rules.
@cornbredx: mine has that 3rd cover printed on the inside, do you guys mean you all dont have a reversable cover :o ?
Edit: oops, totally forgot you may not own the game haha, sorry, still curious though.
@lestephan: I don't have a physical copy of the game. That's awesome, though =)
I know I flipped the cover like that on my copy of Bioshock Infinite. The reverse side cover is way better than the normal cover.
@cornbredx: yeah, I did the same with bioshock infinite too :D
also more on topic: I actually really dislike the normal non reversed cover, the limited edition lenticular cover is pretty sweet though!
I love the image in the PS4 library that's like... A putrid brain wrapped in barbed wire with an upside down mansion for a brainstem.
THAT'S FUCKIN CRAZY
Putting any enemy on the cover would be absolutely terrible and much worse than any of the ones we have.
Especially the box head guy, probably the creepiest enemy in the game
I remember seeing the billboard and thinking it was for some B horror movie that would almost undoubtedly be "In 3D". The effect was so powerful that even after reading the name, it took me a good long while to remember that it was a game.
They should of had the spider lady on the cover as that thing looks creepy while the official one looks generic horror.

Funny you mention that...
It's fine. I like the way that the "I" extends through all of the cover and positions itself above his eyeball. Usually eye-horror is really hackneyed and gross, but that's a pretty subtle touch and that nudges the cover into acceptable territory for me.
Wouldn't call it special, however I have absolutely no problems with it. In fact, from what I've seen, it seems to fit the game.
