http://www.vg247.com/2014/01/29/titanfall-to-launch-without-local-dedicated-servers-in-australia/

Next, the gamer asked to clarify whether or not this meant there would be Titanfall servers located on Australian soil – a valid concern for an online-only title – to which Heppe replied, “They aren’t Australian and I don’t know the exact location (sorry, not the server expert )…but we continue to advocate for Australian servers while making sure Australian gamers will have the best experience we can offer them.”

What the fuck? More like Titanfail. What a joke! So it's an online only game and Australian or in fact any oceanic gamers will have to play with what? 300+ping? The best we might get is Singapore servers it seems. Yet again MS shows they care about it's users.

And that will change what exactly? Servers in another country means high ping. That's ok in a game like an MMO or even a game like DOTA but trying to play a split second FPS is terrible with high ping. It's not like they can patch it out.

Australia is the worst. Everything is trying to kill you constantly AND they will don't have dedicated servers.

Just leave Australia. It's better this way.

...

They didn't say there will never be a server, it's just not going be available at launch.

Umm I think it's very valid to be annoyed when you're told a game that needs low ping won't have it in certain regions. I'm asking what waiting till release will change and you avoid it completely and leave a snarky comment. Both of your comments make me wonder if you know what ping is...it's not part of the game that can be fixed or tweaked, this isn't the net code.

Australians always seem to get the short end of the stick, whether it be by its own strict video game policies, or due to lack of servers. Not much you can do about it I guess, though it does suck.

Sucks dude.

I thought Titanfail was pretty funny, don't know why er'body so uppity about it.

Hopefully when it comes out this will end up having to be nothing to worry for, but it's hard to believe EA can launch any game now without massive early woes.

AYUUUP. Actually this is why PC gaming continues to be more popular for online play outside of the US and other major markets, and why PC players generally get tetchy when they don't received dedicated server code.

Nah actually I don't know you so I don't give a shit about your anger issues, but still dude....these games aren't forcing you to bend over and take it up the ass...yet...just chill a bit.

Sorry for you Australian duders, maybe in time they'll set up some servers on your continent, unless you're all bitter and angry all the time like OP, in that case ya'll don't deserve shit with your shitty attitudes.

Yeah, I've noticed this as well.

Sympathies to Australian players looking forward to Titanfail. Aussies tend to get the real deep dickin' when it comes to this stuff.

The dickin' does run deep here sometimes. The Aussie dollar just hit a three-and-a-half year low against the US dollar so the hard fuckin' on game prices can now be justified again.

Anyway, Microsoft have promised Azure servers here in New South Wales and Victoria in 2014, which would be great if it happens. I'm buying the physical copy anyway, so if the game proves to be laggy I'll return it. One of a few reasons I don't buy digital....

I've heard in some markets PC is cheaper to get because is taxed as a work-school device, unlike consoles taxed as leisure.

Whoah whoah, what the hell are you talking about? You have no idea what you're saying. That kinda ping is NOT acceptable in DOTA at all, it means you get hit with everything and it's impossible to dodge stuff, last hit, deny, etc.

So yeah, this kinda stuff is bullshit all around, not just FPS games, so if we don't get our own servers, it basically means we can't play this game. I've tried battlfield on NA servers, it is unplayable.

@crithon: not really. 2 months is not very long in terms of game development, and f someone says there will be no servers in a region, I doubt they can introduce an entirely new server structure in 2 months. Hell, games usually go gold a month before release so there is really only one month to change anything

I get the occasional laggy game but in general something like dota 2 is way more viable than anything resembling a shooter in which any international game accounts for losing any 1 for 1 speed and skill engagement.

Sure helps develop the skill of surprise though.

The only shooters I've played online that have been viable have been PC with Australians on Australian servers.

Maybe halo and cod games where you could get an aus server at peak times once every 1/5 games. Though I'm not sure if you would call that "viable"

Thank god for valve.

The way routing works on most ISPs means that, even if the servers are located in Singapore, the packets bounce around like 50 countries before getting there. By contrast, we have a straight pipe to LA or somewhere from the east coast of Australia. Usually that means that pings to NA are better than they are to SEA. They certainly are in DotA and Starcraft, in any case.

You might have problems returning an online only game, a few UK stores wont accept at all now, GAME are a bit funny about anything that has "online only" on the box.

EB Games are great at taking games back. It's printed on the back of every receipt, you have seven-days. They even take back accessories and and PC games.

Uh oh, I sound like an ad. I need to balance this out... they fucked me on my PS4 preorder which is why I have an Xbox One. True story.

This has NOTHING to do with Titanfalls development. People don't understand this. This is 100% about Microsoft's Azure sever coverage. Respawn can't change shit.

http://azurespeedtest.azurewebsites.net/

These are the servers. That's the ping you'll be getting. From multiple Australians testing it so far it's about 160ms at best. That would get you booted out of many FPS servers for being too high.

Do we know that MS is providing the servers, though? It's an EA Partners release, so I would assume that EA themselves would be providing the server coverage.

Well then that's the interesting thing, what sort of contract deals would there need to be to get the game out there in Australia? EA has a spotty record and Microsoft is said to be paying for some very impressive cloud based servers that rival google.

Um, on 360 they were provided by EA and DICE. Unless this is a new thing with the Xbox One, I honestly haven't been keeping up on the new consoles.

One of the developer features for the Xbox One flavour of Live is integration with the Azure data centre services. It allows MS spin up new virtual dedicated servers on the fly automatically depending on user demand at any given point in time. That means the end of server queues and it also means that publishers don't need to maintain the infrastructure which would potentially mean (one would hope) that people won't have to worry about EA coming through every 6 months and shutting down the online for games permanently.

The online might work more traditionally for 360 and PC however.
