Yay! Bastion was great and I've been waiting to see what they'd come up with next. To see for yourself go here. It seems like a spiritual successor to Bastion with a bigger budget.
It does indeed seem to have some aspects from Bastion, however I truly hope that it will have its own "personality" and will make our experience playing it somewhat unique. Apparently the protagonist goal is to protect the weapon she acquired, hopefully we will still get some variety of "effect" or "power" to customize it.
I could go for another game like that. I'm surprised it's a 2014 release though. I was thinking late 2013. But please, take your time. Bastion was pretty well polished.
They should definitely take their time to make the best possible product, keeping the trust of your customers is a must! Supergiant has won people heart with Bastion and it'll be a shame if they rushed and ruined their new game and reputation.
I don't really understand the complaints about Bastion's 'gameplay' systems - I guess people found the hack & slash to be a little repetitive after a while? Tight controls and weapon variety are the things I remember and I loved every minute of it. Could it be better, especially with a little bit more originality in how the combat or enemies work? Sure but that's not a complaint for Bastion, more of an expectation for Transistor.
If they would only change setting, narrative and story and keep a similar fighting system with some added nuance, that would be fine. What really intrigues me is the female protagonist, I think that's absolutely awesome: especially if you consider all of the self-fulfilling prophecy bullshit other publishers still keep throwing around.
Judging from what the trailer seems to be going for is a little bit more focus on visual storytelling and story in general - I doubt the narrator will come back for this one, although I wouldn't necessarily exclude that possibility. They might have a really cool cyberpunk world and I have every bit of confidence in them that they can fill it with interesting stuff. Really excited.
I'm assuming there is not going to be a "Building the Transistor".
From watching the trailer it seems very Bastion-esque.
Well. Transistor probably set a new record, moving from announcement to the top of my most wanted list in record time. I really dig that trailer.
How about "Powering the Transistor"? Charging maybe? Had that rattling around my brain while watching the reveal trailer. As it is Supergiant Games' 2nd game, and with obvious comparisons to Bastion going to be made, it would be very interesting to hear about the changes in their processes they have to/will make versus when they made Bastion.
I played it at PAX yesterday. The demo was around 15 minutes long. I came away really impressed, and it seems like everyone else really loved it too (the line was 3 hours long if you didn't get there as soon as the show started, which I fortunately did). The music, voice work, and aesthetic go very well together, and you have quite a few options in combat for attacking enemies. Really can't wait for this one.
i'm so glad they're not just making a re-skinned bastion, gameplay looks fantastic, at this point the only games i'm excited for are this and animal crossing. I still enjoy playing frozen synapse and the similar but more action-oriented mechanics that this seems to have are really appealing. i just hope the level design is good enough that there's no fatigue. recent resurgence of strategy games and its apparent impact is pretty exciting
According to their Twitter, Transistor will have a greater focus on "strategic planning" than Bastion did.
So I guess it's less "hack away a bunch". Either way I'm interested; the trailer was cool.
Well this definitely just got more interesting for me.
