$100 Collector's Edition doesn't come with the game

The Wolfenstein: The New Order Panzerhund Edition was announced today and it will include the following:

• An 8 inch fully articulated hand-painted Panzerhund statue and base
• Classified folder containing salvaged secret war documents including maps, case files, letters, blueprints and an x-ray
• A set of 14 full-color ‘vintage’ postcards from Wolfenstein’s alternate 1960’s, bound in a display book
• Three embroidered patches
• Custom replica dog tags
• An exclusive Steelbook case to house your copy of the game – Actual game sold separately.

It's important to note, though, that the actual game will be sold separately. That's kind of odd, huh? A Collector's Edition that doesn't come with the game it represents.

I like me a good collectors edition but I wouldn't pick one up sans the actual frickin' game.

It's stupid to call this an "edition" but I actually kind of like the idea of it.

You could pick up the game and if you ended up really liking it you could by this Collectors Set to get all the stuff in it. I think that's a better alternative to buying a CE off the bat for a game you might end up not liking.

So I could just buy the game on steam ,or whatever, and also have the option getting the useless shit in the collectors edition? That's neat I guess.

Are they hoping to trick people? This seems stupid and pointless.

Great. I don't really have any interest in the game, but the CE looks sweet. Fantastic deal for me, hope more people do this.

This is kind of weird to me. Do they just not want to sell a proper Collector's Edition with the game included for 160 dollars? Are they trying to pull a fast one on people who don't carefully read the description of the item? I honestly am trying to comprehend why you would sell a CE without the game, and I'm just not finding a good enough reason.

I can understand why someone may buy something like this. Maybe they don't want the game but want the statue/postcards/etc. Still, 100 dollars is a lot to drop without the game being included in the package.

My gut reaction was that this was a dumb idea, but thinking of it as sort of a Collector's Upgrade or something makes more sense. I have often thought it was sort of odd to buy a CE of a game sight-unseen, even if I've done just that for a few. I knew I'd want that Fallout bobble-head and that lunchbox even if Fallout 3 didn't turn out well.

I find the fact that they actually give you an empty case hilarious.

I'm sure in reality it will mostly be sold bundled with the game in stores, its probably just a quirky form distribution.

This seems scummy beyond belief. Especially if they aren't clearly messaging that you aren't getting the game.

This is not a bad idea. I can buy this, get the steam copy, or buy the game used later. This makes the collectors edition if you include the game 160.00. Pretty expensive.
They arent releasing the collectors edition until May 20th, the day of release for the game, it would make more sense if they dont include the game to send this out before the games release date to build hype for Wolfenstein.

Content looks neat, but the lack of game...yeah. Like mentioned, I sure hope there's a big sticker on the box to say "NO GAME INCLUDED" because I can just imagine the confusion and/or rage when someone goes through all the cool stuff first and then opens the empty case...

You can't sell an edition of a game if it doesn't come with the fucking game. That's not how this works.

It's not a edition or an addition. It's merchandising.

The only part that makes it offensive is that one word. The nomenclature/expectations laid out since the dawn of the collector's edition. Otherwise it's at least noted (in the final main paragraph of the description on their website, however) that the pack doesn't include the game.

Are we sure they didn't just forget that it comes with the game?

Genius. There's no way I'd pay $160 for that now, but what if I buy the game and really, really like it? I would absolutely drop money on this for it.

I really don't think this is as insidious as people want to believe it is. The wording is just silly, but the intent behind it seems kind of fine.

Definetly weird, but clearly not designed to trick people. This way, you can get the game wherever you like, or digitally, but still get all this junk if you really want it. I agree with everyone who says the naming is weird though.

That beastie looks like that ED-209 boss from Axelay. Now I know what my girlfriend can have for her birthday: Engagement Ring: Special Edition. It's full of relief or dispair, just no ring.

This is not the first time that a separate collectors pack has been released without the game. It actually makes a lot of business sense since you this pack is platform agnostic so there is no extra production cost to make 3 versions of these pay expensive retailer space for these.

Whoever wants this can order it and slap his gamedisc into the steel case.

That's more money than I would ever spend on something like that, and calling it a collector's edition is misleading, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it not coming with the game. You buy the collector's edition because you want the goodies, not because it comes with the game.

This is one of the dumbest things I've seen in awhile. I would actually consider buying it if it came with the game and was still $100, since I am really looking forward to the game and since this stuff looks like it would just barely be worth an extra $40, but a full hundred just for that? WITHOUT THE GAME? Madness, I tell you.

I could see that maybe but it still seems backwards because collector's editions are very random when it comes to their availability. So buying it after you have and like the games seems like a crap shoot.
