With Thursday Race Night out there to scratch the itch for all of us who enjoy racing against each other, it seems like the leader boards are a great way to compete against each others times. That being said a thorough perusal through our car club's leader board shows very few car class / race track combinations that everyone has done. Seems like the best way to populate the boards and get some competition is to have a weekly event with a specific class and track (and even specific section if so desired).

Here's the breakdown:

1) Assists and difficulty level - whatever you would like. All on, all off, a slight mixture, however you like to race is how you get to race.

2) Race week begins Tuesday morning at 6 am PST and ends Monday at noon.

3) Winner each week picks the following weeks' race. My XBL name is the same (j3ffro919), winner can send me a message either here or on XBL and I'll update this thread Tuesday morning.

4) Winner picks type (Circuit/Rivals/Drag/Etc), Car Class (F-X), Environment (Bernese Alps/Suzuka Circuit/Etc), and if they would like to break it down further to an individual part of that track they can.

5) You need to be in the Giant Bomb Car Club to win. I know there's a number of people waiting to get in, and I don't want to discriminate against them, but how the leader board is calculated is Overall, Car Club, or Car Club plus Friends and trying to coordinate everyone being friends with everyone else would be a nightmare.

6) Smack talk is highly encouraged and just this side of mandatory.

Final Note - I'm open to mixing things up. If you have suggestions/improvements/etc don't hesitate to voice your opinion. This isn't an ego thing for me, I'm just a numbers dork who's played Fantasy Football long before it was socially acceptable to do so - so the thought of having 30-100 people all trying to beat the same time on the same track with the same class of cars is awesome.

Perhaps, although if you wanted to make a change after this week's accounted for, you could create a new thread as a catch-all for every week thereafter, and I could lock this thread and point people in the right direction. We'll figure out that hurdle once we get to it.

I'll give this competition a shot once I'm past the brunt of real-life work/studying this week. As much as I'd like to bring my Lancia 037 to the party, I have a feeling my '95 Eclipse will be attending instead (unless I can put together a decent C-Class Dodge for the job).

EDIT: ...and I don't mean the Dodge Dart/old Dodge setups people are cheesing the leaderboards with. That's decidedly unmanly, that noise.

I'll get on this shortly. It's gonna be tough to decide what track I should pick for next week!

The website leaderboard and the ingame leaderboard phrases things a little differently; on the website the name of the track is Hockenheimring, which has three variations Full Circuit, National Circuit, Short Circuit. The ingame leaderboard refers to them as Hockenheimring, Hockenheim National, and Hockenheim Short. This week's competition is the total of all three so dust the Renault off again for a national and a short time.

I'm 90th in the world on that track now, Slowb1rd is 91st

@RandomHero666: That was quite fun, after I did the third layout I checked the leaderboards and saw that you had beat my time from the first layout so I had to go back and try again :D

Like you thought you could get away with taunting my old Eclipse on those long straights. Instead, you just made me buy a new car for this challenge. It'd be a shame if I had to tune it beyond its default setup, lessen the body roll, and make it good.

Wellp, looks like someone decided to bring that rev limiter-slamming Dodge Dart setup to this fight. I'm going to bow out of this week's challenge with my honor and manhood intact.

What's the deal with the Dart? I see that thing at the top of all the leaderboards. Is that some kind of scam car or what?

@Trucker_Sean: It's questionable. You can put a really good engine into the Dart and a few other hot rods (a Viper engine, I believe), but if you leave the transmission as-is, the car keeps a low PI rating, since the transmission can't handle the full range of the engine. It'll apparently still accelerate and move extremely fast as hell, though you'll be on the rev limiter most of the time.

Turn 10's aware of the matter and "looking into it," but there's not word yet that I've seen as to whether they'll declare it cheating or a crafty abuse of the PI system. Given its effectiveness on the leaderboards, though, I'm personally driven to hissing at it like a Brad Shoemaker exposed to bright light.

I look down my nose at the Dodge Dart! How simply revolting to use such a tactic.

If it's any comfort.. I tried about 10 other cars but couldn't come close to Slowbird or Laz

And yes the dart is awesome, top speed of around 112 but it gets there very quickly.. in 4th gear.. that noise!!

Going forward can we not cheese the time? Takes some of the fun out of it if we all have to use the same set up just to be competitive. Not a biggie and it wasn't really brought up previously, no harm no foul.

Ah, no wonder I couldn't come anywhere close to any of the Dart times on the E Class boards. I hope they put an end to that nonsense.

I took my non tuned for Escort and got some top 10% leaderboard times, but was only in the top like 75% club times, you guys are fast. Or maybe I should try and at least tune the cars I drive haha.

Agreed, I had one of the first times and felt decently good about 'em. Then watched 'em get shredded multiple times...reality check.

Seeing as I took the low road and used the glitchy Dart tune, I guess 2nd place guy should choose track/class for the next one. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but it was way more fun in the Renault 5 doing 20 laps while examining you guys' ghosts to look for an opening :P

I just realized I completely forgot to post times for this. I guess I'll just have to blow everyone's times away next week!

Why wait? This is going until tomorrow day...and since RandomHero/FuzzyLongCat took himself out of the running (class move btw, thanks for doing that) it's currently SlowB1rd. That being said there's still ~16 hours of clock gogogo!

It's definitely opened my eyes to how much better I need to get (especially with RWD cars). BTW 2.5 more hours for someone to try to dethrone Laz...nice times man. Very impressive.

Just got done posting a time at Hockenheimring full circuit. Posted the 7th best time. I used a '99 Honda Civic, which has great handling, but blows on the straightaways.

Working on posting times at the other configurations as we speak.

It's probably past the deadline, but I want you guys to know that the AMC Javelin is a pretty good car.

Well, j3ffro just informed me that I've won week 1, and have the choice of next week's battleground. It was tempting to say A Class, Sunset Peninsula Full; after all, that was the earliest hotlap competition in this community that I can recall, and it'd be fitting for Race Night's two year anniversary.

I'm not taking us down the obvious road, however. I want to go back to another favorite of mine for some riskier racing.

Week 2, which starts tomorrow, will be fought in Point-to-Point, S Class, at Fujimi Kaido Old Down Hill. I'm going to close this thread down so j3ffro can put together a new thread with a less dated topic for our future competitions.

Be ready to fight, ladies and gentlemen. Unlike Race Night, this is not just a war against roads. This is a battle royale forged in blood and asphalt.
