The object of Frogger is to cross the freeway with your frog and get him all the way to the other side of the river before time runs out. The frog may die in one of many different ways. He will drown if he falls in the water (despite being a frog), he will be crushed if he even makes contact with any of the vehicles that cross the freeway in front of him. He will even die if he fails to enter one of the empty entrances at the top of the screen and hits the wall instead.
Points are gained every time the frog moves without being killed. Bonus points may be gained by picking up female frogs and making it safely to the entrances with them, by getting frogs to all five of the entrances at the top of the screen, or by entering an entrance when a fly is within it.
Frogger is a classic arcade game with a simple objective: safely maneuver your frog across a busy highway and a deadly river without getting squished!
Original Title
Frogger was not always known by its striking moniker, it was almost dubbed a much more mundane title. The original idea was to call it "Highway Crossing Frog" but luckily the executives at Sega realized this was not catchy enough before settling on the more familiar and far more striking name Frogger.Gameplay

Famous References
The popular show Seinfeld had an episode almost entirely dedicated to Frogger. In the episode George Costanza learns that a pizza place he visited frequently as a child is closing down which will lead to the unplugging of a Frogger arcade machine causing the loss of his high score. At the end of the episode, from a top down view identical to the game, we see George maneuver the arcade cabinet through traffic to reach the other side of the street.
