Chahi-Designed 'Project Dust' Announced By Ubisoft

Posted by BradNicholson (812 posts) -

French designer Eric Chahi, the man behind Another World and Heart of Darkness, has emerged from his secret hiding spot to work on a new downloadable title. Project Dust, according to Chahi, is a "spiritual heir to Populous" that will have its users playing God in a world ravaged by environmental catastrophes.

In Project Dust, you'll be interacting with the game's ravaged world by manipulating the earth, water, and even vegetation. You'll also be able to dig craters and breach lakes, all in the name of providing "a safe place" to Dusts' tribal denizens.

The oh-so-brief teaser trailer presented at Ubisoft's thrilling E3 2010 press briefing neglected to point out the games genre, but it did provide a cool look at a visually impressive downloadable--a downloadable set to hit the Xbox Live Marketplace and PSN in Spring 2011, according to Chahi.

== TEASER == UPDATE: I really meant to type "Another World" instead of "Out of This World."

Great character design.

Similarities to Populous and Black & White have me worried, but hell, if it's half as interesting as OOTW was, I'm in.

#13 Posted by Zeninnnnnnnn (176 posts) -

This shit totally reminded me of Black & White.  No wonder.

Wasn't there also a premiere of another game entitled " Dust" today?  Just before the Xbox 360 show.

They're the same thing, I thought. And your "Another World" link goes to the wrong page. Sorry. Figured I'd let you know.

I haven't played a game by that man that I didn't like. I'm interested.

This is some SERIOUS HOLY CRAP OMGWTFBBQ!!!!! news for me.
I absolutely love OOTW, but I'm cautious because I remember that the creator of Delphine's other masterpiece, Flashback, went on to make  Shaq Fu.

Most interesting game from Ubisoft's event. Perhaps a tie with Child of Eden.

The concept art is very intriguing. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this to see where it goes.

This seems like an interesting concept.  I will be checking it out in 2011.

Ditto.  This is first new game that's been revealed from E3 so far that I feel really interested in and am likely to want to check out ... though I'm hoping it makes it to PC.

"spiritual heir to Populous"

Oh good!  I'm not the only one who thought Populous when I saw the trailer.  It screamed that to me and that's a good thing!

Don't forget guys that there is going to be a version on PC too.
