The game will feature a story driven single-player campaign and online multiplayer in an immersive world as stated by the developers. Like previous installments Double Helix stated that customization will continue to play a part in the core gameplay. The customizability is expanded upon by featuring the option to change ammo shot type such as EMP or Corrosive and additionally hands and shoulder parts will now too be open to swapping around.
In Front Mission Evolved there will also be moments in the game where you will find your character interacting with the world outside of a Wanzer mech, such as on foot base exploration (like Front Mission Online) and new screenshots suggest moments were combat will also take place outside of a Wanzer mech with handheld weapons such as a machinegun or rocket launcher. Whilst in a Wanzer, players will have to watch out for damage done to their various mech's limbs as getting damaged in them has impeding effects, however the player can apply the same tactic of limb attacks to the enemy mechs, this is a standard in the series.
A notable new feature is "Edge mode" which slows the game down and highlights various enemies whilst increasing your damage done. Similar to bullet-time.
On Earth, the planet is armored humanoid battle vehicles code named "Wanzers" are engaging in battle over border skirmishes.
It is not clear if this takes place in the same universe as previous Front Mission games.

Front Mission Evolved was teased in a May 2009 issue of the Official Xbox Magazine, keeping the title of the teased game secret, but revealing that Square Enix was creating a new game based off an existing IP involving mechs and that the game's franchise rhymed with "Brunt Fission". On April 30, 2009 an official teaser site went up for the game depicting the same futuristic city-like images displayed in the teaser in OXM, however not actually revealing it's a teaser site for Front Mission Evolved, instead titling the website "NEW GAME".
On May 29, the game's official website was launched revealing the title will be a third person shooter being developed by Double Helix Games, to be released on PLAYSTATION 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Overview
Front Mission Evolved is an upcoming third-person shooter and that will allow players to control giant mechs known as Wanzers. Story
Front Mission Evolved takes place in the year 2171 A.D. after humanity has once again reached the stars. The global powers of the world have began a space race building orbital elevators to seize control of the unconquered space region. The game will take place around a terrorist attack in Manhatten which is apparently linked to this 'cold war like' space feud.On Earth, the planet is armored humanoid battle vehicles code named "Wanzers" are engaging in battle over border skirmishes.
It is not clear if this takes place in the same universe as previous Front Mission games.
Characters
- Dylan Ramsey (23) - The main protagonist of the game. A newly employed engineer at Diable Avionics Corporation, a major weapons manufacturer. Assigned to a project developing a new line of Wanzers. Son of the world famous computer software architect Alan Ramsey. [Full Bio]
- Adela Seawell (24) - A U.C.S. Wanzer pilot involved in a secret field test of a secret weapon. The catastophic accident caused by the test left her without a family. [Full Bio]
- Godwin Maudslay (56) - A renowned Brigadier General skilled in the piloting of the Wanzer and combat strategies. Known to some as Godwin "Moses" after miraculously breaking through an encirclement of many foes and leading his men to safety. [Full Bio]
