Frontier Developments Ltd is a British computer and video games development company. The company is based in Cambridge, England. Originally founded by David Braben to develop a sequel for Elite. The name of the sequel was Frontier: Elite II.
Frontier was released in 1993 and was considered a success. A sequel was developed called First Encounters in 1995 but the games publisher Gametek released an unfinished version of the game. It contained many bugs which lead to poor review scores and low sales. Frontier initiated legal action against Gametak which was eventually settled in 1999.
Other than the Elite series, Frontier Developments has been responsible for a number of popular PC and console games, including Dog's Life and parts of the Roller Coaster Tycoon series. The company also makes games for the Wallace & Gromit franchise and has released Wallace and Gromit in Project Zoo and a tie-in game for Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
