An anthropomorphized dachshund, Gaius James Rover is the protagonist of Jolly Roger and controlled by the player. Though naive about the world and unskilled in most piratey abilities, his underdog charm and quick wits allows him to survive encounters with the various pirates and corrupt officials he comes across. Has a bad habit of being betrayed, usually resulting in him being dumped somewhere and needing to figure a way out. He's also a fairly proficient juggler and acrobat, talents he picked up from his clown father.
