Take on hordes of enemies in this latest iteration of the Galaga franchise, revamped with HD graphics, and released on XBLA.
Overview
Galaga Legions is the most recent evolution in the Galaga series. It takes the basic gameplay of Galaga, the triple-fire of Galaga '88, and updates it with bigger waves of enemies, the ability to move throughout the playing field, and two satellite cannons which can be placed anywhere on the screen to fire in the cardinal directins. The game costs 800 Microsoft Points (10 dollars) and was released on August 20, 2008 as part of Microsoft's Summer of Arcade.
Controls and Gameplay
Unlike earlier Galaga incarnations, Legions allows the player to move their ship around the whole screen. Waves of Galaga ships come in from all directions and are predicted with a line which traces the route of the enemies. In addition to the main ship, the player has two satellite turrets which can be placed to fire left, right, up, and down. They can be recalled by pressing a button or by flying over them. When recalled, the ship fires from three cannons. Galaga Legions has an auto-shoot mode for beginners in which you don't have to push the right trigger to shoot. Instead of purposely having their fighter captured, players fire upon a black-hole which pulls in their turrets and enemies on screen to bring Galaga ships under their control. The game is divided into five areas of increasing difficulty with their own enemy patterns.
Presentation
The game is displayed in HD with rich colors and neon lights. There are five skins for the game: the new "original" Legions skin, the "vintage" Galaga skin, and the "ancient" Galaxian skin, "harcore" and "super hardcore".
