Having been born in 1990, I missed all these classic 70's and 80's retro games. Sure I played flash versions of Centipede and Asteroids, but I missed all the classic game older gamers (like the Giant Bomb crew) old dear. Game Room seemed like a cool idea to me but I didn't expect to load it up, open my wallet and throw my money at Microsoft.
I don't know about you guys but I found myself loading a demo, playing for 3 seconds, and saying BUY, not because the demo blew me away just because...well I'm not sure. I played the demos to see if the game was hard to figure out or frustrating (in other words, I avoided most of the Intelivision stuff) and after that process of a few seconds, I was buying things I never heard of. All told I spent a almost 3000 points, thats about $35, on a bunch of old games I could probably find after a minute with a web browser and google.
Now I can't stop playing these games. Theres something about the old school/retro quality that keeps me coming back. I don't feel like I wasted all that money. WHY IS YAR'S REVENGE FOR THE ATARI 2600 SO DAMN ADDICTING!?!
And no, I did not buy Jungler....sorry guys.
Game Room
Game » consists of 6 releases. Released Mar 24, 2010
A downloadable portal for official emulation of retro video games for the Xbox 360 and PC, featuring offerings from the Atari 2600 and Intellivision as well as early arcade games by Atari and Konami.
Amount of money you spent out of the gate?
i spent $6 day one.
I was just PMing someone about why i buy these games. As i told them, i don't think a lot of the games are worth more then $1 as games alone. What makes me want these games is more for the retro gaming enthusiast in me who has always loved the look of a standing arcade cabinet and it's artwork. You can easily sell me a lot of these as collector's items for $3. Unfortunately some of the Konami cabnets were half assed and with that in mind, knowing if i wanted to play any of these just as games i can do that for "free" using MAME, it pushed me away from buying some games that i may have gotten if they had original cabinet art.
BTW, Gravitar is the greatest game in that lineup..spread the word.

" $0. I'm waiting for a very specific handful of games. ...tho I might grab Ice Climber. "You're waiting for a Nintendo game to appear on the 360? You may have quite a wait on your hands.
I spent about £10.
$0 so far, maybe i'll plunk down the 40 points i have left on a rental, to get rid of it, but i'm really holding out for some newer games, I'm not saying these games are bad, I'm just not the least bit interested in them.
Oops, I thought for some reason it was already in there, probably mixed brain wires from reading it in another post." @ProfessorEss said:

I bought shoa lins road or w.e and I'm thinking about getting astroids and yars revenge and maybe just maybe crystal castles, but other than that the out-of-the-gate line up hasnt been too great. Maybe its just because intelevision games are insane and crazy, considering I couldnt even understand how to play football after sitting there reading shit and pressing buttons for like 5 minutes, and becuase atari games are way way way to simple and ugly looking. So far the arcade stuff is really what I am liking game room for even though the track ball difficulties provided in crystal castles and tempest make the games not so great. After saying all that though, there is something really charming about game room that makes me just wanna go in there and throw my money at Microsoft for these games. I think its the whole arcade vibe that makes it so appealing. If game room was just a set of menus with games I could play I dont think I would even bother with it, but there is something really cool about seeing your avatar as well as your friends avatars walking around playing these games in arcades with awesome backgrounds and crazy props. Although I havnt found many of the games appealing so far, I'm really looking forward to what game room is going to become in the next 6 months or so.
Roughly $30 snagging Lunar Lander, Jungler, Tempest, Finalizer, Sub Hunt, Space Armada and Millipede. Many of those games I bought because classic shooters where a rarity when I was a kid, yet I always have a blast with the simplicity and excitement of those classics and, for $4 for a game I'll likely play for at least an hour or two out of the gate, how can you go wrong?
I have such a weird gaming past. Even though I was born in 85, my first system was a 2600... so I grew up on this stuff. Really glad to have a legal way to play these games and share challenges with my friends.
$6 on Shao Lin's Road and Red Baron. Was going to go for Yar's Revenge or Tempest as well but realized I was 10 spacebucks short. Damn those Allard funds.
$0 so far but I will probably end up with some over time. I say there is a pretty good chance I will pick up Centipede, and if they move Gallaga over from a regular arcade title I may. When looking at old arcade games I usually find myself saying I could buy this or I could pick up a PS1 classic or a more recent Live game on sale this for $5 or $6 .
Bought a 1600 point card, and have 400 left. Might use it up once the new games are out so I can get one for both platforms. Who knows, I may just spend it before tomorrow night. In short: $20
for the price of 3 "retro" games, i'd rather trash my money on hamsterball, over and over again.
I'm 27, and had a sister and brother 10 and 14 years older than me, so I got to see alot of the old school era.
IMO - It just doesn't justify the price for the use i'd get out of those games.
Now if there was a Lucky & Wild, NBA JAM / Arch Rival cabinet, or Fun House/ Whirlwind table in there somewhere, then we'd talk.
Once I get some money that I can actually throw around for fun I'll be getting some stuff, but right now I just can't afford it. I do love the idea of it though, I really didn't think much of it back when it was announced... I thought it'd be an okay distraction, but there is some charm to how they built it. It works. I want to build up an arcade full of some of my favorite classics and let my friends come see and play my collection. I'm really looking forward to once they start getting into the arcade games of the 90's... that is when I first got interested in video games so that stuff is ripe of nostalgia for me.
I bought 8 games, so that is about £16 i think. I'm probably gonna buy at least a couple more tonight though, especially after hearing we might not get any more games till the end of April. Hell, i'll probably have bought at least half of them by then.
I spent $12 so far.
Finalizer (never heard of it, played the demo and fell in love. Found out that basically no one has heard about this game, no entry on Wikipedia, nothing on here or Gamefaqs)
Shao-lin's Road (stupid fun)
Centiepde (nostalgia and because I don't already own another copy as hard as that may seem)
Atari Tennis (like crack)
I've got enough allards to buy one more and I'm thinking either Tempest despite lack of good controls, or Yar's Revenge. It's worth noting that I got the TE stick so playing a lot of these games is much easier and more accurate than using the 360 controller. My hand got too tired playing Finalizer and mashing so much on the normal pad, I can go for hours on the TE stick though.
There's a lot of fun in the gimmicks that surround the games. Trying to get the highest score amongst friends, issuing insane challenges, and watching the top players replays are all good fun. I also love the rewind feature in casual play. I'd recommend anyone who isn't trying it out simply because they can emulate the games already to give it a go anyway, you might be surprised.
