A great game that adds enough content to justify 60 bucks. 0

This Review was written on Nov. 17 2008SPOILER FREE REVIEW I have to say that the story in this game is down right horrendous and borderline stupid. I just get this since of confusion after beating this game story wise. It is almost as if the game was broken up into 2 games. You have gears of war and then you have the Dom show. In all the story just feels kinda forced down your throught with all this drama when all gamers really wanted was an extension of first game. Not the mess that we were gi...

Best game of 2008 0

Developers promis a lot of things, but few games live up to those. Rewind to E3 where Cliffy. B promised the world that Gears of War 2 will be bigger, better, and more bad-ass than the 1 game. The time is now to judge it and is it these 3? Yes, yes, and yes. Gears of War 2’s story takes place 6 months after the 1 game. The Locus have started to plunge cities into the ground. The Human race’s Gears team has no choice to go below and rip the Locus a new one and it’s up to Delta Squad and there lea...

Another year, another hit game release. Last year it was Halo 3, this year was the sequel to the 2006 Game Of The Year...Gears of War 2. There are many things to talk about with the game, but let's start with the basics. The game has your simple Single Player Campaign, Multi-Player Campaign, and Online Play. Lets start with the campaign. The Campaign follows Delta Squad. Marcus Fenix, Dominic "Dom" Santiago, Augustus "Cole Train" Cole, and Damon Baird. The main story follows Delta Squad 6 months a...

Hope is only Skin Deep 0

The original Gears of War was one of those really popular games that I, for some reason or another, just did not like at all. I thought the action was weak and boring with a dry single player to boot. The great graphics where offset by the assy weapon sounds, bad dialogue and that the combat felt sluggish and was overall very low impact. So naturally when I heard about Gears of War 2 I wasn’t exactly hyped out of my mind like all the others in the gaming community. I will admit after seeing the ...

Gears Of War 2 worth the 60 Bucks. 0

Honestly I love gears of war. The first one was so appealing and this one was just bigger and better. Although the story-line didn't seem as good this time around it was still enjoyable. I love this game and everything about it and have put many hours into this game. Although I love everything about it it didnt get a full 5 stars because of  a few minor issues that I get from living overseas. Since living in Japan I have so much lag that I can hardly play. Although I usually lag in all games gea...

Do The Gears Still Turn? 0

The original Gears of War was a heavily hyped game that delivered for many, but failed to live up to some gamers' expectations.  Gears of War was a third-person shooter that boasted phenomenal graphics and a unique cover-based gameplay system.  It utilized a cover system where you could hide behind almost every object, and move between them with ease.  I enjoyed playing through the campaign, but to me, it just didn't live up to Halo.  Halo felt so much more intuitive, while Gears felt clunky and...

Note: This review will likely contain spoilers, so read at your own risk unless you beaten the campaign. It was 2006 and the Xbox 360 has been out for a year. A lot was riding on the first Gears of War to be fill in the void the Halo franchise has been for the console. It became an instant classic and the 360's first killer app with its amazing stop and pop style gameplay along with a multiplayer component that kept the game among the most played Xbox Live titles. It established a new set of icon...

Gears of War 2 Review 0

Gears of War 2 is the quick sequel to the first game of the same name. When I first heard that this game was going to come out I thought it was too soon too fast, and that there wasn't going to be any real substance to it. I was completely wrong. This game takes where the last one left off and rocked my socks off. You will once again be playing the part of Marcus Fenix, or Dom. You'll have to deal yet again with the Locust that just don't seem to ever truly go away. The graphics are solid on this...

Gears of War 2 Review: More like ten shitloads 0

Gears of War 2 was promised to be bigger, better and more badass than its predecessor, which is quite a claim considering how successful and revered the first Gears of War was. Epic needed to keep what the fans of the series loved while also trying to meet its incredibly ambitious promise to make the game better on so many levels, and incredibly they largely achieved this. Gears of War 2 is an incredible game that still stands up as one of the Xbox 360's best 3 years after its release.    Story ...

Gears of War 2 is a sequel done right 0

Gears of War 2 takes the good from the original and makes it better than beforeGears of War 2 builds on everything the first game established and improves on almost every feature. The Story continues six months after Gears of War, and is more epic and engaging to play. This is Maria, Dom`s Wife. His Search for her is a main element to the story mode. The game makes you feel more like a soldier helping in a desperate battle whereas the original game felt like you were just stranded soldiers looki...

Gears of War 2 0

The gears of war 2 combat will "BLOW YOU AWAY" as IGN.com states. The chainsawtamize are great and the gore is so much better. I love it! The sound is also so much more "meatier" than the first one and the mortar and the mulchers are great. The shotgon is better and those people cant roll and shotgun you one shot. The music is much more improved and I love it. (not saying the old music was bad). I happily say that this game is by far one of the best games that came out this fall!!!This art is gr...

Gears of War 2 Review. Graphics:5 stars There ain’t any flaws with the new Unreal Engine, there are alot of games on the market that are using this engine but of course no one can use the engine like Epic Games well. They are the makers of the engine so that’s obvious. As a game Gears of War 2 looks really awesome and if you compare it to other games released around the same time it’s miles better in the graphics department. Excellent lightning, blood and fire effects. To compare it to the ...

Gears 2 review in my mind. 0

I didnt really played a lot of gears 1, so coming into this I was skeptical to what gears 2 had to offer this time around. The first thing i noticed was th graphics, Epic really stepped it up as far as the detail went into this game. The levels lookvery good and the animations were on time with the game.  One thing I noticed was the characters were more interesting I found myself caring about thses new guys and gals. But I think the strong hold that Gears2 has is the multiplayer its more of the s...

Love on the Battlefield... 0

The hype machine rolled into town and I had a ticket to get on. The view wasn't any different than the last time I took this trip but, the ride was still fun. So after finishing Gears last night I realized that, as a whole this game is essentially the same as the last game. The environments all feel like Gears, the weapons all function the same, the characters all still interact the same. That being said... I am fine with all of it. I wouldn't want EPIC to change anything really. What I enjoy...

Epic Improvement over the Original 0

The original game in this series wowed me initially, but after some time, I got tired of even looking at it. So, with a bit of trepidation, I decided to finally play GoW 2. This is MS's second big franchise and an epic money-maker. But, is it all that much fun to play?Shockingly, yes. It really is a lot of fun to play. The story is...well,  to be honest. Cliffy B and the guys don't seem to have any ability to tell a story --- they even hired a rather reputable writer for the original game ...

Epic Delivers Wiith More Gorey Goodness 0

I love this game. It is everything that Cliff said it would be. Bigger, better, and definately more badass. The story is deeper. The new characters are really cool. Their backgrounds are different and interesting. There are also tons of new enimies. Some of them are boomers with different armor and guns, and others are entirely new. Some huge, some tiny. The multiplayer is great as usual. Horde has to be my new favorite, and the other great modes are there as well. There is a party system and ma...

Chainsaw Goodness 0

Gears of war 2 takes what the first game did,but cranks it to 11. The story is so much improved, over all the combat is still just as imersive and addicting as gears 1. the A.I in gears 2 still needs much work on its ability to be retarded at times. The multiplayer is better as well, with a rank system, and the ability to crawl to saftey now....

Amazing game, however may be lacking for some 0

I won't discredit GOW 2 in any way, for it is an absolutely amazing game. The game play is one of a kind, the campaign is deep and sophisticated, and ultimately Epic was able to build off of Gears 1, which was by far a personal favorite. However, I play online mulitplayer primarily, and at times the experience is lacking. Patches have been released to fix lag and glitches, however there are still soft-spots. Besides this, some weapons and aspects seem unnessecary for hardcore online play, such a...

Above and Beyond 0

Above and Beyond WA Julian 2006’s Gears of War erupted from the ground with smashing sales, breaking reviews, and even Game of the Year Awards (it was even my game of the year). Sure, it had its problems, but its winning combat formula won the day for Epic Games, making it easily one of the best Xbox 360 games out there. Beating it would be tough, but as if intentionally, there were enough holes left in Gears of War that a sequel could potentially be groundbreaking. And that is exactly what happ...

Great game to have in your game collection 0

Gears of War 2 reviewGame play: Gears of war 2 has more missions and more action then the first one. There`s some few glitches but overall the single-player is pretty good. You can also play online and coop with your friends. The game is pretty hard if you cover allot you wont get killed so easily.Graphics: The graphics are awesome for a standard TV i`m impressed by the details of the characters and the map. You can dowload multi-player maps in the dashboard.Sound: The sound and music is good so...

Chainsaws and Curbstomps 0

The original Gears of War was arguably the Xbox 360's first killer app. Thats not to say it didn't have its problems, though. It didn't have much of a story, the cover system occasionally had its problems, and the online play was kind of a afterthought. Gears of War tries to makes vast improvements to these problems, yet doesn't succeed in all of them. All in all, though, it is everything Cliffy B said it would be. It is "BIgger, Better, and more Badass."The biggest change made is the story. It'...

Gears of War 2 0

The original Gears of War was a huge step forward for video games back in 2006. At the time, no game could match the visuals of Gears of War, compete with the addictive multiplayer or have such a thrilling co op experience. The game's story left much to be desired, but the rest of the game's components thrived and made the original Gears of War an experience to remember. To this day, many games fall short in competing with the visuals of the original. Despite the original setting such a high bar...

If it Blood and guts you want then THIS IS THE GAME 0

Gears of War 2 picks up the story six months after the end of the first game. The Locust are so powerful that they can sink entire cities from below, that Jacinto might fall, it's down to Marcus and Dominic to take the fight to the Locust. This sheds some light on the characters and the universe, and though it ultimately uncovers more questions than it answers. The gameplay in Gears 2 is fundamentally the same as the original game, but with some changes. The cover system has been honed so that yo...

More like 10 Shit Loads! 0

The Original Gears of War left us with, a bloodthirsty type of game-play, almost every kill was satisfactory and Gears of War 2 brings in that and more options to love it even more. Gears of War 2's Campaign mode has significantly improved with more overall action, id even like to say the story is better with a sence of humor as the newbie Benjamin Carmine comes in and your first job is to either train him or ditch him and fight the locus. Then the game picks up its pace and has big killing mome...

Gears of War 2 0

Spoilers Included - You've been warned! Now, I'm going to get the record straight and I'm going to say that at first I was thinking that Gears of War 2 would have the Halo 3 effect on me, and I was dreading that the game would become ruin Gears of War. I can say immediately that I was wrong.  Epic took Gears of War and then highlighted everything that was good about Gears of War with not one or two levels of highlighting, but three or four levels to make everything more satisfying. The first ...

Maybe expectations were too high? 0

I loved the first Gears of War and was looking forward to Gears of War 2 and was planning on really diving in and checking out the multiplayer. First off this should have been 4 person co-op campaign, Halo 3 set the bar and Gears 2 should have followed their lead.  I also purchased the game new for the code for the maps you will never see for purchase later on, only to find that multiplayer is totally screwed. So far of the games I have gotten into either most of my team or the other sides team ...

It's a gun. With a FREAKING chainsaw. Just buy it. 0

Gears of War was one of the only shooters I can say I’ve thoroughly enjoyed – the over-the-shoulder camera, new cover system and a great multiplayer mode all contributing to what I felt was a truly epic (no pun intended) game. Fast forward two years and Epic has finally released the game’s sequel, which has been quoted of being “bigger, better and more badass”. While I don’t feel all of these terms are completely fitting descriptions of Gears 2, I can say that this is one sequel that shooter fan...

Connection issues aside, this game must be played. 0

When I played through the first Gears of War, I was blown away by the awesome gameplay and the memorable characters. However, the story was definitely lacking in coherency and pacing, with the latter being especially like a train wreck. And while Gears 2 has somewhat better pacing and a better plot in general, it still goes a little too fast to be coherent. One level that stood out to me in particular as poorly thought out was the level in the secret COG facility. it seemed more like a meaningle...

The best of the meathead space marine shooters. 0

In many ways, meathead space marine shooters have come to define video gaming for a large portion of the developed world. I've played through many of the biggies -- the Halos and Gears and Killzones and whatever else -- and I can't help to feel a little worn out by the neverending parade of attention, money and press these games get. Dazzling graphics and relentless adrenalized shooting thrills and multiplayer options so deep, you need never leave your apartment again, and on and on and on and ...

The Definition of a Sequel 0

First off, I would like to note that i am a HUGE gears of war 1 fan, I almost was going to review this giving it a 4.5/5 but instead changed my mind. With that being said, lets get down to the review. For the campaign, you play as a part of delta squad, Marcus Fenix, to be exact. Anyone who is familiar with the first game will know the background info., and if you don't, i suggest you go play the first game! The story, while great, is somewhat of a mixed bag. There is great plot development, but ...

Gears of War 2 Review 0

Well the first question that sprung to my mind when I heard that Gears of War will have a sequel was, How would they top it? All I can say now is that they have gone so far passed the top they are almost out of this world. Gears of War 2 has not only built on what the first game was about but it has actually added things which has made the game feel fresh. The main thing that Epic was promoting about this game was a more bigger single player experience. The story starts about six months after ...

Highly Addictive 0

From the start to the finish on campaign, from Horde wave 1 through 50, to the multiplayer system, GEARS OF WAR 2 is a PURE MASTERPIECE.Granted, we ALL wanted SERVERS rather than player hosts, but I will admit that EPIC definitely got rid of a lot of the lag, or atleast the HORRIBLE lag that was in Gears 1.  A game in itself should not be punished for a poor network. The matchmaking system is superb, but host to host game searches still are a tooth grinding experience. The campaign seriously suck...

Gears of War 2 Review 0

As a sequel to Gears of War, which already contained amazing graphics, great gameplay, and excellent multiplayer, Gears of War 2 successfully adds on to the first game in more ways than one.   Starting the game most will notice the same controls as the first one but they still hold up in this version and seem to be slightly improved.  The cover system is still the best I have ever used in a video game and provides a great alternative to the third-person shooter.  The graphics also look a lot sha...

Rocks 0

When Gears of War 2 was far enough along in development that it became time to start promoting, Epic Games constantly made use of the tagline “Bigger, Badder, and More Badass” to describe it. When I first heard this I rolled my eyes, but it turns out that this is actually a pretty good way to describe Gears 2. It takes everything that Gears 1 did well, throws in more enemies, weapons, vehicles, ect, and turns the action up to a level I have never seen before. Gears of War 2 is honestly the most ...

Gears of War 2 is just plain fun 0

Anyone one who bought the first Gears, like me, would've been salavating in anticipation for the release of Gears 2 (ok, maybe not salavating, but really, really excited), and the anticipation has been met.So, everyoneone knows there was not much of a story in the first game, it was just moving from a to b, action style, for guys that like shootin stuff, blah, blah, blah. The second game will satisfy Mass Effect (possibly, maybe) fans with its storytelling. New characters are introduced and the...

IT'S A GIANT WORM! 0

The seminal title of Microsoft's Xbox 360, Gears of War was undeniably a good game.  Whatever you felt about the game's story or somewhat ham-fisted multiplayer set up could not dampen the fact that the game had some of the most solid gameplay and most beautiful graphics that had been seen in a console game up to that point.  Now two years removed, a ton of progress has been made since Gears of War first graced our consoles, so the biggest question was what could its sequel do that actually IMPR...
