If you're following the game you probably know that the cog armor has went through something of a redesign for gears of war 3, as it is now sleeveless. In all of the previews I've found this pretty distracting, has it been a problem for you or is it something that I just need to adjust to?

When i first saw it i thought it looked abit odd but when you think that Gears 3 is set during summer *I read that somewhere* and the COG is low on resources after sinking Jacinto so gears will have less armour. Of course i could just be making reason when Epic just though "Eh why don't we just make them sleeveless?"

I don't mind it at all, it's explained and I guess it's good that they made the characters look a bit different from the other games

Not so fussed, either. And infact I think it makes Baird and Marcus look pretty cool.

They weren't much of a problem, and there are reasons for it being sleeveless, so I'm cool with it.

Don't mind at all. Speaking of things that seem out of place, Anya's hair in that pic is kinda glowy. Wonder why I never noticed that before.

its always good to change it up a bit. and since the gameplay is solid and fresh, why not change up the aesthetics, i like it.

Yeah the warmer climate provides the proper context for the sleeve less armor, also makes them look more rag tag than proper military force.

We've already accepted 6 inch thick steel-plated armor and no helmet, so having no arm protection doesn't seem any worse.

While it wasn't as big a change, the armored looked a bit different in 2 than it did the first game, didn't it?

I'm fine with it. The Gears universe isn't exactly so authentic that the lack of armored sleeves would break the fiction for me.

Yes, absolutely. Gears was set in a respectable universe that could be taken seriously by adults but now that the sleeves are gone, it's all over.

Tank top armor is obviously taken from the Vin Diesel school of badass. Well rather I like to think that instead of the alternative, the Larry the Cable Guy school of offensive terribleness.

The fact that they all have sleeveless in that pic makes them seem more uniform.  They were more varied before (long sleeves, short sleeves, no sleeves, blue long sleeves) and seemed more rag tag, which they were somewhat (with Baird and Cole being from different uh, companies, I think it was alpha and bravo?).  Given the story the short sleeves can be justified so I'm playing along with that.

Sleeveless makes much more sense than sleeves when it comes to utility/armor vests. What exactly do you think the sleeves would protect from, aside from being a little bit chilly?

edit: Yes it looks silly, but much less so than before.

On Anya or any light/recon units it'd make sense. For Dom, Marcus & the rest on the front lines less armor seems rather silly.

Ok, having now played the beta I can say that in game the wife beaters are alright. I was expecting to be distracted, transfixed by the bare, beefy sweat glistened arms but actually you get used to it in like 10 minutes. It still looks stupid in promotional images like the one I posted though. May as well take it all the way and have the Gears keeping cool and stylish in bermuda shorts as well.

@WalkerTR77: I still find the men's huge arms really distracting. The Gears guy's have always been cartoonishly beefy but you only really notice it when you can see bare flesh like that.
