Help Child's Play By Deciding If Carmine Dies In Gears 3

Posted by BradNicholson (812 posts) -

Here's a new one. In an effort to drum up financial support for gamer charity Child's Play, Epic Games and Microsoft are giving fans the power to decide something rather unusual: if Clayton Carmine lives or dies in Gears of War 3.

The Carmines are the Gears equivalent of South Park's Kenny--they don't  catch many breaks, and end up dying in every game. But if enough people decide to let this third brother, Clayton, live in Gears 3, then he actually will. The catch is that this isn't a funded fan poll or a debatable issue on a message board. Your vote on the matter of Carmine's life and death will be counted by an Avatar t-shirt purchase or an in-person physical purchase at San Diego Comic Con.

Starting July 29, the avatar store on Xbox Live Marketplace will be updated with the two Gears of War 3 shirts pictured above. One says simply, "Carmine Must Die." The other, "Save Carmine." All proceeds accumulated from purchases will go to Child's Play, but whichever one nets the most will decide the fate of the COG. Your vote can be counted early if you'll be in San Diego for Comic Con, as physical versions of this shirt ($20.00) are being sold there.

This is a neat, but kinda macabre idea. Child's Play gives cool tech and toys to some pretty needy or sick kids, so it's a little weird to be purchasing a shirt that says "Carmine Must Die" to support the org, but really, Carmine must die. Dude isn't supposed to get a pass.

I will note, thought, that he is looking good for a guy that's about to tango with doom.

Carmine* :-)

I always play as Carmine online so I wouldn't mind if he lived. Also it's nice that it's going to Child's Play.

Yes Camine.

#7 Posted by riffingt0n (157 posts) -

I think this will be my first avatar clothing purchase :).  Awesome idea.

#8 Posted by Milkman (16801 posts) -

Carmine should definitely die.

#9 Posted by ZeForgotten (10397 posts) -

If he doesn't die at least I will have a fancy shirt

#10 Posted by PK_Koopa (583 posts) -

I wish the shirts were less plain and had a pic of carmine on it or something.

Whatever, if I do buy one, I'm joining the "Save Carmine" side.

#11 Posted by wealllikepie (757 posts) -

looking at those screenshots, this carmine looks way to badass to die, but since hes going against the trend of pussy rookie carmines, ill vote for him to die

What if it's a tie?

#13 Posted by Ninja (534 posts) -

Save this carmine. Mix it up a bit!

#14 Posted by thecombine (19 posts) -

normally i'd be all for carmine's death, but he actually looks pretty bad ass this time around.

Interesting way to sell some avatar stuff.

I'm willing to bet that which ever option is the loser, Epic will release that as a DLC episode.

This is very cool. I love these cool ways to donate to charity. I hate to say it, because I should donate no matter what, but I like when companies take time and effort into making donating for a cause fun. If I had an xbox I would totally buy a Save Carmine shirt.

good on them for doing this

If Carmine lives he'll probably end up being the savior of the game... I say kill him off like his brothers. Even though he does look pretty badass. Sorry, Mrs. Carmine.

Hopefully they won't announce if he lives or dies before the game comes out. Would rather it was a suprise.

An easy way to support Child's Play. I might buy both.

Carmine must DIE!

Then his death will be a key plot point which single-handedly saves all of COG and kills all of the locust.

Be nice to see him live, and it's for a good cause. I might actually *gasp* buy a stupid avatar accessory!

Support for charity, advertising for game, and contest all in one.

he must die

he must DIE

I can't bare seeing Carmine die again! Save him! T.T

#29 Posted by GunstarRed (5189 posts) -

Carmine HAS to die.... and preferably in the least heroic way possible.

He should live, the Carmine curse has lasted long enough.

#32 Posted by Demonstride (864 posts) -

Save him because it would make some people PISSED and I would find that hilarious.

#33 Posted by LeBart (302 posts) -

If this ends up with a scene with Marcus yelling "SAVE CARMINE" or with a locust yelling "CARMINE MUST DIE", I will be quite displeased.

#34 Posted by natetodamax (19207 posts) -

This is cool as long as they don't post the results before the game comes out.

#35 Posted by Shasam (468 posts) -

This is really cool. Child's Play should always be supported, as it's a really noble initiative, and cool way's to do it make it even harder not to do so.

For the record, though, Carmine MUST die...

#36 Posted by bybeach (4831 posts) -

I want one with a picture orf carmine dying, blood and guts everywhere, arms and legs chopped off. Anything for charity.

Been playing re-playing Dead Space on hard, sorry.

Sucks to be carmine, though.

Save Carmine!

#38 Posted by RGHamburger (28 posts) -

They don't many catch breaks indeed!

#39 Posted by Warchief (657 posts) -

is the shirt free in xbla?

#40 Posted by RobotHamster (4171 posts) -

Damn this Carmine looks like he's a badass but I have a feeling that the curse will strike again, maybe he won't but I just can't choose!

#41 Posted by Solh0und (1775 posts) -

They should let this Carmine live throughout the campaign and then die in the ending.

#42 Posted by Yzzerdd (521 posts) -

I can't believe they even try to say  that Gears has anything remotely resembling a deep or profound story.

#43 Posted by SquirrelGOD (503 posts) -

I say let him live.  After GoW2, I really wanted the third brother to be a total badass who was now extremely pissed about his brothers and survived.  Nice to see that we're getting that opportunity, and yay charity!

I sure hope there isn't a little boy named Carmine somewhere in a hospital.

#45 Posted by zudthespud (3281 posts) -

I am going to renew my xbox live membership to buy the carmine must die shirt.

#46 Posted by themartyr (691 posts) -

Carmine has to live, and they should have to meet Clayton at some point in the game, to rescue him.

Basically I'm saying let's make Gears 3 into Saving Private Carmine.

#47 Posted by ajamafalous (11997 posts) -

Dude, Clayton Carmine is a hoss.

#48 Posted by akskiller (72 posts) -

Carmine must die, even if he looks badass, sorry.

#49 Posted by Aleryn (704 posts) -

Was just about to say this Avatar shirt oughta be free to help further community involvement, but nevermind, proceeds going to charity makes it worth blowing some cash on.

... and let the guy live, plus give him a fully developed character.  The Kenny thing works in South Park, it was funny in Star Trek  (Red Shirts)... but, uh, it's gotten old.  Though I'll admit Scientists dying horribly left and right in Half LIfe 1 never really got old.  Prolly cuz of how hilarious the voice actors made it sound.

Kill Dom, nothing like the best friend dying to make a huge impact on the story, he's dead inside as it is.
