Well, I Know What Game I'll Be Playing for the Next Three Years 0

As a critic, I’ve found the most challenging reviews to write involve games to which I have a particular emotional attachment, and this is certainly the case for the Gears of War franchise. As long as I’ve had an Xbox 360, Gears of War has been a constant and dependable companion. Sure, every once in a while I’d run off and have a fling when a sexy new Call of Duty game came along... but once the thrill wore off, I’d realize all those new frags were meaningless, and soon I’d be stomping Locusts ...

An Expansive And Refined Package 0

It's no secret that I held mixed opinions on Gears of War 2. It felt like the game took the whole "darker sequel" thing a little too far, injecting a somberness into characters and worlds that frankly didn't deserve to be taken so seriously. With Gears of War 3 Epic has finally hit that sweet spot between darkness and bro-ness that the first two missed, and tuned their gameplay and graphics engines to a T to boot. The resulting game is not only one of the Xbox 360's finest games, but one of this...

Single Player Underwhelming *Slight Spoilers 0

Once upon a time I chainsawed the hearts of a riftworm and rode a rampaging Brumak through Locust-infested caverns. The good memories I have of Gears of War 1 and 2 are those of exciting set pieces while the bad memories I have are any point where they try to flesh out the story and characters. We're all familiar with the commercial where Marcus is running through the destroyed city as Mad World plays in the background. Gears 3 feels like it tries to take that "war is Hell" motif too seriously ...

Epic Games go crazy with the WD40. 0

It goes without saying that anyone reading this would already be well acquainted with the Gears of War series. Epic Games' flagship cover shooter hasn't changed all that much from outward appearances, but anyone who has played the first two games in the series will understand that subtle changes can have a larger impact once a controller is in hand. It is thus the same with the latest and by far the best game in the series, where a number of small changes have refined the formula into something ...

Gears of War 3 Review: Dust to dust 0

This is it, the end of the trilogy that alongside Halo has been Microsoft's flagship franchise. Gears of War engendered cover based shooting into gaming, has had incredible amounts of gore and visual fidelity and generally been a series that showcases what the Xbox 360 can do. Gears of War 3 does not disappoint, keeping all of these traits of the series alive and well while improving on multiple aspects of the series and all round being the most finely put together game in the series.    This ti...

    Epic War Part 3 2

Marcus Fenix and his muscular unit is back and with them the most craziest weapons essay in video game history. Gears of War stands for first class 3rd-person action with a lot of blood, loose body parts, cool patters, distinctive muscles, exciting and action packed position changes and guarantied awesome graphics. Precisely for these reasons the previous titles count as rolemodel for Xbox 360 graphic and gameplay experiece.Three years are over:Since the second part was ringing the tills and lef...

Gears of War 3 Review 0

Also found at http://www.badenoughdudes.com/?p=5044Gears of War 3 is finally upon us, and with it comes the finale to the current story arc along with a few new additions to the franchise. Favorites such as horde mode and multiplayer have returned, but now players can enjoy the campaign with a four player cooperative mode, as well as finding a sick glee from killing humans in the new beast mode. Does Gears 3 live up to the hype from its predecessors, or should it to be torn apart like a locust? ...

The Cole Train runs on whole grain 0

Gears of War has become one of the defining franchises this generation, and Gears of War 3 closes the trilogy in style. It takes the “bigger and better” approach to sequel design to deliver one of the most robust, content-heavy games around. With its sheer quantity of quality content, Gears of War 3 is an absolute must buy for any fan of a good shooter.A lot of what makes Gears 3 so good is precisely what made its predecessors successful to begin with. The iconic Gears formula is still fun at it...

Soldiers in the beginning. Brothers 'til the End. 0

What began in 2006 as a fight for humanity, ends in 2011 as a fight to survive. Marcus Fenix and the rest of Delta Squad find themselves in the middle of a free-for-all between the Locust and the new mutating Lambent as they begin attacking anything in their way. The few remaining Gears are scattered throughout the land, and are losing soldiers every day. Marcus receives news from a surprising source on a way to stop both the Lambent & Locust, and he once again leads Delta Squad out to save ...

A gripping conclusion to Epic Games X360 trilogy masterpiece. 0

Since it's release in 2006, I've been a huge Gears of War fan. In fact, within the last decade I would put Gears of War up there alongside the greats like Oblivion, Resident Evil 4 (and 5), and Halo 3 as being one of the best. It introduced us to not only a new science fiction/fantasy world, but it gave us one of the best and first real co-operative experiences over Xbox live. And let's not forget to mention that the original Gears of War was released at a time when there wasn't a whole lot to b...

Yo this game has a fuckin buttload of content, I'm not even kidding. The story mode took me about 5 days, there's 2,3,4 player co-op, regular multiplayer, Horde Mode, Beast Mode; this game is worth full price.Where and why has Adam Fenix been hiding for years? Questions answered! The game's campaign adds a lot to the Gears fiction. If you want to see things escalate with the locusts, the lambent and Marcus n Dom: the story unfolds a bit before the finale. Questions get answered, things change, an...

The Definitive Gears of War Package 0

The Gears of War franchise has always been high caliber offering visceral action, top-notch visuals and tons of excessive gore. Gears of War 3 is no different, but manages to surpass that level of quality in just about every aspect. By offering a surprisingly well done narrative, a slew of modes that appeal to a wide variety of players and a gorgeous presentation, Gears of War 3 is, without a doubt, the best and most fully featured game in the series to date.Taking place two years after the eve...

Amazing end to an Epic trilogy 0

Story:The new Delta squad members, Sam Byrne and Clay CarmineThe story of Gears 3 is very solid, featuring all the characters you cared about in the old games as well as making some new additions to Delta (a new and badass Carmine, the quirky rookie Jace, and the tomboy Sam) - all with very interesting characters. It shows humanity on the edge of collapse, living either on huge ships or gone into hiding on the land. All of this happens because of the new threat called Lambent, which even the Loc...

The End of an Epic Game. 0

Gears of War 3 is the finale to the Gears of War trilogy. For those fans of the shooter genre, you can't go wrong with this. The experience earned from the last two games all comes together to make this the best game yet. This game will last you about a week on campaign and a lot longer on the various multiplayer modes. The co-op is great, and what makes this game fun. Up to four players playing the campaign. This is also one of the first games to start charging a lot for DLC. For this, it's some...

    I don't get it 0

I just don't understand the appeal. The single player is the same ole stuff. Some of the weapons are super fun to use, but the boring grind of the single player game leaves me numb. There is no innovation or feeling of challenge outside of repetitiveness. So sick of games just being a glorified repeat of the same overdone tired formula. The only reason I'm playing the single player at all is to get shooting skills for the multiplayer which is actually really fun. I give the multiplayer 4 out of ...

Not For Me, Despite its Quality 0

This is a beautiful looking game that plays great. The combat is honed to the Gears flavor of perfection. The scenes are bright and crisp and engaging in a way that exceed the previous two games by far. Production values all around are excellent. And I really kind of hated it. I found the storytelling - that is, the admixture of what you do in the game and what happens in the plot - to be really off. If you summarize the plot, it's fine. Not great, but fine. But in the action, it is much more oft...

Let me start with this, I have not played a game that left me with so many emotions and wishing that it was not only a trilogy. Now on to the review (and probably one of my favorite ones I will do) I gave this game a 5 out of 5 for the obvious reason that I found nothing wrong with it at all. I have been a huge GoW fan since the first game came out in 2006. In the third and final installment one of the main protagonists (Marcus Fenix) finds out his father had not died but was actually being held...

Action-packed, solid release from Gears. 0

After 3 installments it's kind of hard to keep things fresh and interesting. Gears of War is not the sharpest tool in the shed anyway, the focus has always been and will probably always be action. From checkpoint to checkpoint the campaign evolves and the brief moments in-between stand as return to wellness. They try hard to add depth to the overall experience, the story seems better developed, better told, taking more twists. Still, no one will play this game because of that. The single player ...

Better late than never! Friend-of-the-site Adam Marcey takes a break from his months-long obsession with Gears of War 3 to give us an in-depth review. Be sure to check back in a few days, when Adam will take on Modern Warfare 3.Gears of War was the first game I purchased for Xbox 360 back in 2007 (yes I know, it took me awhile to take the plunge) and I loved it. Review: Gears of War 3 0

It’s tough to say the third time’s the charm in the case of a hugely popular series like Gears of War. However, calling Gears of War 3 the definitive game in the trilogy shouldn’t be taken as a shot against its predecessors, but as an exemplification of just how much an improvement Gears 3 is. Epic Games has filled Gears 3 with such an abundance of content that, in order to unlock everything legitimately, you’d have to play consistently for months, if not years.Of course, the Versus multiplayer ...

Developer: Epic GamesPublisher: MicrosoftSix years on from the debut of Fenix and his band of merry men, Gears of War 3 brings the trilogy to a climax, and what a climax that is.Whatever problems humanity had after the end of Gears 2, they’re nothing to what’s going on in the third instalment. Humans, already pushed to near extinction, are on the ropes with the Coalition of Ordered Governments (The COG) all but disbanded. The Lambent are a bigger threat than ever, and what Locusts have survived ...

Too Long; Didn't Watch version: Gears of War 3 fixes everything that was wrong with the first two games. The Second-Act-Secret-Project-Ass-Pull-That-Invalidates-Everything-That-Came-Before? Gone. Survival sequences that exist to pad out the game, and in the process kill any sense of urgency? Toned down. Two-dimensional characitures for squad members (Hi, Cole)? Fleshed out and given depth. The only real minuses I have against this game, is that it effectively completes the bad-ass decay...

    Excellent Send-Off 0

Gears of War has been the lynchpin of the 360's success from its initial showings up until this current title. The tale of Marcus Fenix and the crew's war against the Locust horde. The storyline was somewhat less than compelling, but the gameplay always rose up to become amongst the all-time great series of games. It's gory, but the gore is never the centerpiece of the action. The weapons all work rather well. Enemies can soak up a lot of damage (almost Halo levels of damage) but you never feel ...

    Bros of War 3 0

I got my Xbox 360 in 2006 because I wanted to play Gears of War. Which I did, a lot. Then Gears 2 came out and I was hyped, more Gears. By the end of the Single Player campaign I wasn’t so sure I wanted “more Gears” anymore. The fact that the MP was really broken also didn’t help…I decided that I wouldn’t be getting Gears 3 at launch after realizing how tired I was of its gameplay based around the cover system. I did finally get it though, and I decided I was going to play it on Casual, minimizin...

A great game, but ultimately forgettable. 0

Gears 3 does what it aims to do without much faults. It's a solid game that doesn't have any real glaring issues. The problem comes with a third game a franchise that feels worn out by now. It was influental to this generation, but the gameplay has gotten old by now. Epic knows this as they decided to go full out and add a ton of great insentives to keep playing even after your done. This doesn't apply to multiplayer, as you're reward for nearly everything that you do. It just sucks that the gam...

As good as you could hope a sequel could be 0

Well, Gears of War 3 is pretty much exactly what I expected. Better, longer campaign with a signicificantly better plot and a much improved multiplayer experience. This is probably my favorite shooter since Halo 3.So what did the game do right? Well, the netcode has been vastly improved, so the competitive multiplayer is actually playable even if your match isn't making use of the dedicated servers. There's a slew of unlockables so you have a lot of motivation to just keep playing. I really love...

Gears of War was the first Xbox 360 game I have ever played. Gears of War 2 was the reason why I decided to buy my own system instead of playing it on somebody's system. Then come along Gears of War 3. Gears of War 3 was developed 3 years instead of 2 years development time that the first two games had. Gears of War 3 not only improved the single player campaign aspect of the game, but also the co-op and to the fans' loud cheer, the competitive multiplayer. Gears of War 3 is billed as the bigges...

No wrench in these gears 0

One thing that I absolutely did not expect to say about the 3rd chapter of what is arguably the most influential game of the current console generation, is emotional resonance. However here I am after 10-ish hours of playing and actually thinking about the events that transpired. Now it should be stated that first and foremost, GoW3 is mostly a formulaic adventure that moves you quickly from one crisis to another, trying to find X or collect Y, for the greater good of the motley band of CoG sold...

The final chapter has been written, and it is time to once again battle the Locust with Dom, Marcus, and others. Will this finally bring an end to the war, or will humanity fad into the past? Only you will be able to determine that. There is also the very important question of a certain bloodline that seems to meet misfortune at every turn in the series, will this Carmine actually see himself live through the game?Graphically this game looks stunning. I had a chance to play around with some of t...

Gears of War 3 is exactly what it title implies. It’s more Gears of War. Whether or not that’s a good thing really depends on you. I guess it’s important to preface a review of a franchise that is somewhat divisive like this with a little about my experience with the series. I really enjoyed both of the previous games in the series, and I even read two of the novels. I hold Gears as the gold standard for how a third person shooter should control. The presentation and technical aspects of Gears 3 ...

Gears of War 3 is a solid game and equally as good as any of the previous titles in the series. Now depending on how much you enjoy this game will wholly depend on how much you enjoy the Gears formula. Much of Gears 3 doesn't change the core formula at all. But if you are a fan of the Gears games this will no doubt be a must play as it offers up well oiled Gears play and quite an acceptable finish to the series.I was skeptical going into Gears 3 regarding how well this type of game without new i...

I have been to many mid-night releases at Gamestop in my life, but I've been to only one that I was not actually purchasing the game; Gears of War 3. I was only there for moral support for my friend who didn't want to wade through the many familiar faces. Review*contains spoilers for ALL acts*Gears of War 3 is a stellar conclusion to the franchise which achieves its greatness through an more understated but ultimately more interesting approach to the GoW format.Firstly EPIC seemed to have addressed every flaw I had with GoW 2. An amazing campaign, very emotional for those who care about the story and followed the cog's since the first outing. Fantastic online play, great maps, and the great prize being the new revanped Horde mode, that is absolutely briliant.
