A great new idea from Microsoft 0

Gears of War took the world by storm at the time it came out. The graphics looked so amazing and being a new ip was really impressive. But I didn't enjoy as much as most people, I still think it was amazing, but it could be ever better. It had some fps dips at a few parts of the game, the story could be a little bit deeper from the jump. The gameplay doesn't make you change your strategy very much and sometimes it feels a bit random, you can get instantly killed by an attack and later survive to ...

    Gears of War 0

This is one of those games that defines the industry. Of every game I have ever played on the Xbox 360 console Gears of War is by far the most creative, fun to watch, hard to put down and just plain old entertaining. Gears of War offers an entire new spin to any Combat game you have ever played. The words that best describe the difference between this third person, over the shoulder shooter, are personal combat. When in the heart of battle you are able to feel the breath of your opponent as he r...

    Next-gen finally arrived 0

Gears Of War is a 3rd-Person Action/Horror game, with genuinely groundbreaking graphics, as well as the most cinematic game design seen for a long time. The game's protagonist, Marcus Fenix, finds himself broken out of prison (having spent some time there for alleged treason) and immediately resumes fighting the ferocious Locust Horde. A vicious army of creatures from below the Earth's crust (or 'Sera' 's, the name of the planet) , hell bent on the destruction of all things Human. With your old f...

    Good GoW, Y'All! 0

It's my personal opinion that games just don't have the same magic as they used to.  It could be that we're breaching too close to reality with the looks, and realism effects and character models based on people we recognise might be taking things a little too far.  Many games, particularly shooters have become a little tired and predictable.  I'm very glad to say that I don't find this to be the case with Gears of War.  Made by the Unreal Tournament team, there was never a chance I wouldn't pla...

An essential game for any 360 owner 0

With the emergence of Gears of War 2 coming near, I decided to invest in the first game to get acquainted with the series. I can say that like me if you missed out on this game the first time around I implore you to get this game for yourself. The one quality of the game that resonated with me the most was the gun play and cover mechanics. While the total arsenal of weaponry is rather small, you can tell that each one was painstakingly crafted and tuned. You have your standard assault rifles, ...

A COVER SYSTEM THAT WILL BE COPIED FOR YEARS TO COME 0

Gears of WAR in a third person shooting game that masters almost every aspect of what is expected from shooting games. The way this is done is through a flawless cover system and a paint ball feel to the game. Gears of War has multiple weapons that are balanced out evenly that make the game fair. Gears of War has both COOP and Multi player which vary significantly. The Coop mode can be played as with one player or you can choose to team up with a buddy to kill some locust. The Coop seems short b...

The games main mode is a lengthy Single player Campaign as you battle through hordes of enemies called the Locust, and at any time a friend can plug in a controller and join in the fight along side you.Gears is a shooter through and through but with new innovations thi...

    Great graphics. 0

If anything, this game set a pretty high benchmark for graphics on the Xbox 360. But you know what? It's just plain old-fashioned fun. Don't expect the next evolution in entertainment. This is the gaming equivalent of the popcorn movie. Groan-inducing lines, awesome set pieces, and lots of explosions pretty much sums this experience. So don't expect a good story. Because there isn't one.   Most of the games is spent teaching you to use the stop and pop gunplay. Take cover or die, basically. This...

Now available va digital distribution - still a classic! 0

I noticed this is available via digital distribution now.  I have just finished revisiting this title and thought now would be a good time to share my views on it.  Difficulty This was the first title I actually played through on the XBOX 360,  I completed it on 'Casual' over two years ago if  recall - and then didn't revisit it until a few weeks ago, to try to play through on 'Hardcore'.   Now the first thing that struck me is even on Casual I didn't find this an easy game to beat.  Partly bec...

Gears of War is the bomb - period! 0

First of all, Jeff's review should be ignored completely. What he said makes me think that either he did it purely for the reputation and the potential gains, or he wouldn't know a video game if it came alive and slapped him in the face. Gears of War is loved by many, as can be seen by the user reviews; unlike Jeff's distasteful petty, little article.Furthermore, the graphics is amazing - better than most Xbox One titles - and the gameplay is overall fun and competitive. This is not a reaction r...

One Of The Best Xbox 360 Games Ever Made 0

All of us Xbox 360 owners have been wating since the 360 came out to play GOW. It was very much worth our wait to. The story here is a alien race invades earth typical for a sci-fi game. The game starts out slow. You are in prision for an untold reason and is "liberated" by your comrades. You start off by either picking traning. (which i recomnd your do) or go straight to battle. The enviroments are PRETTY..Best graphics ive seen so far on my 360. Gameplay is usually fast and tactical..Hiding an...

    Best Shooter Ever Made 0

Gears of War is simply the best shooter ever made. If you like shooters and have a 360 then you should own this game. The game is best played in two player Co-op. If you don't have a friend to play with it is still an excelllent single player game. The thing that is different about Gears is that it has a well implemented cover system. It isn't just the controls for going into cover it is the level design that makes going into cover and killing incoming enemies a lot of fun. The game has rechargi...

    almost 5 0

As i realized i was still playing this game almost 2 years after it came out i knew it was special. The visuals are top notch and the level design in the campaign, while short, is very well done. On the down side the story isn't very compelling but serves its purpose none the less. For those reasons I give Gears of War 4.5 stars just incase Gears 2 improves on the first one (which I think it will)....

The best Xbox 360 game... 0

Everyone has talked about Gears of War's jaw-dropping graphics. If you haven't seen them yet, you're missing out on an incredible achievement in art and technology. The post-apocalyptic landscapes and the ash-shaded, world-weary faces of the characters are better than realistic - they exist in the hyper-reality of imagination. The soundtrack is operatic, tightening the drama and tension of the plot, which, while it could have fleshed out the characters with more detail or provided more back stor...

    Gears of War 0

I still say Okami has the best graphics artistically of any game I've seen, but Gears of War easily takes the cake from a technical perspective. Seriously, it looks amazing. I have the good fortune to have a roommate this quarter who has a widescreen HDTV around 40 inches in size, and the game is really a sight to behold. It sounds pretty good too, with solid voices and sound effects. It wouldn't be a good game without gameplay of course, and Gears succeeds there as well. I'm really not that big ...

Is Gears of War as good as everyone says it is? 0

Gears of War takes place on the planet Sera where this Alien race started to break through the planets crust and kill everything in their path. The COG is the human's race last hope and they have to rely on an inmate to defeat the Locaust.Yeah, yeah I know that story has been done to death so many freaking times I've almost stopped caring about the story in my Sci-Fi shooters. The sad thing is what I just described above is about as deep as Gears of War's story gets and the campagin feels more l...

    Gears Of War 0

Where to start? Well gears of war is most definitely the best game so far that has reached the current gen consoles. I will give you a relatively short, but sweet review of why GoW is imo GOTD. Starting with the single player, it is just the right length; most surely not too short and not too long either (which is probably more annoying, I mean come on; who doesn't have 10 games in their collection that are so long that they have been dumped?). You feel like you have accomplished something inc...

An addictive shooter with fluid mechanics and fantastic visuals 0

Let's face it, most video games are a dime a dozen. Every genre has its standard bag of tricks. The simple premise of shooters makes them an easy target. Run. Shoot. Kill. Gears of War changes it up slightly. Here, running around in the open will quickly get you killed, making your only alternative to take cover behind anything you can find. Walls, columns, doorways, rubble, sandbags, couches. Like in real combat, if the enemy can see you, you're already dead. The campaign plays out over a seri...

A Tough, Heavy Hitting Shooter With A Chainsaw Bayonet 0

Gears of War is an amazing playing shooter from developer Epic Games. Let’s get this out of the way right now: this game is nothing short of a masterpiece. The great control scheme and amazing sound and graphics make Gears a must-have and the first true “killer-app” for the Xbox 360. Gears of War starts of when your character Marcus Fenix is busted out of prison by his buddy Dominic Santiago, after going through this training level getting to the chopper the story’s biggest plot point is reviled...

Gears of war is a third person shooter game. Its not just a run and gun shooter. This game is a tactical shooter or stop and pop as Epic explains it. Gears of war’s gameplay is nothing short of amazing. The game makes you use cover if you want to survive more than a minute. The games cover is all done through the “a” button which will quickly become the most used button in the game for you. This action button controls roadie run (ducking and sprinting at the same time), entering cover, and use ...

Okay, Gears Of War is one of my all time favourite 360 titles. And now, with Gears 2 coming up i thought id write down a quick review for this. Gears is simply an epic game. One that plays like an action movie. Full of blood, guns, charisma and an epic storyline alongside the game is a must for any 360 owner. I mean, the guns have chainsaws attached to them, come on - that just screams awesome. But since im tired tonight and im sick of writing that'll do for now, just go play the game....

Every firefight in the game is an adrenaline and testosterone rush! You play as the mysterious Markus Phoenix and his best friend and combat comrade, Domingo - trying to make a difference in a lost world, conquered by a terrifying alien race. Challenging. Beautiful. Worth every penny. And although it's short, you'll play it like 5 times through and most likely become an addict of the online play. Full Campaign Co-Op is the best fun I have had, especially if playing some of the Acts as Co-Op you can share the same experience of amazement as you play and watch the cut scenes. Gears is so fun if you're the host.Gameplay    The singleplayer in gears didn't disappoint it was gritty, bloody, nasty, and so fucking awesome. The weapons are so badass and cool and never get old, especially, yes the fuckin chainsaw.
