This is one of those games that defines the industry. Of every game I have ever played on the Xbox 360 console Gears of War is by far the most creative, fun to watch, hard to put down and just plain old entertaining. Gears of War offers an entire new spin to any Combat game you have ever played. The words that best describe the difference between this third person, over the shoulder shooter, are personal combat. When in the heart of battle you are able to feel the breath of your opponent as he r...
It's my personal opinion that games just don't have the same magic as they used to. It could be that we're breaching too close to reality with the looks, and realism effects and character models based on people we recognise might be taking things a little too far. Many games, particularly shooters have become a little tired and predictable. I'm very glad to say that I don't find this to be the case with Gears of War. Made by the Unreal Tournament team, there was never a chance I wouldn't pla...
Gears Of War is a 3rd-Person Action/Horror game, with genuinely groundbreaking graphics, as well as the most cinematic game design seen for a long time. The game's protagonist, Marcus Fenix, finds himself broken out of prison (having spent some time there for alleged treason) and immediately resumes fighting the ferocious Locust Horde. A vicious army of creatures from below the Earth's crust (or 'Sera' 's, the name of the planet) , hell bent on the destruction of all things Human. With your old f...
No matter which genre of games we like the most,be it strategies, sport sims, driving sims or role playing games,we each feel sometimes the need to shoot & kill.A game to kill our anger. There are two types of cathegories games of this type are divised in.One of them contains Painkiller,Serious Sam & Will Rock. The other gathegory is Gears of War.Gears of War probably needs no introduction, being the most popular game on X360 for a long time. But we all know that its exclusivity for the 360 is...
With the emergence of Gears of War 2 coming near, I decided to invest in the first game to get acquainted with the series. I can say that like me if you missed out on this game the first time around I implore you to get this game for yourself. The one quality of the game that resonated with me the most was the gun play and cover mechanics. While the total arsenal of weaponry is rather small, you can tell that each one was painstakingly crafted and tuned. You have your standard assault rifles, ...
Gears of WAR in a third person shooting game that masters almost every aspect of what is expected from shooting games. The way this is done is through a flawless cover system and a paint ball feel to the game. Gears of War has multiple weapons that are balanced out evenly that make the game fair. Gears of War has both COOP and Multi player which vary significantly. The Coop mode can be played as with one player or you can choose to team up with a buddy to kill some locust. The Coop seems short b...
I noticed this is available via digital distribution now. I have just finished revisiting this title and thought now would be a good time to share my views on it. Difficulty This was the first title I actually played through on the XBOX 360, I completed it on 'Casual' over two years ago if recall - and then didn't revisit it until a few weeks ago, to try to play through on 'Hardcore'. Now the first thing that struck me is even on Casual I didn't find this an easy game to beat. Partly bec...
If anything, this game set a pretty high benchmark for graphics on the Xbox 360. But you know what? It's just plain old-fashioned fun. Don't expect the next evolution in entertainment. This is the gaming equivalent of the popcorn movie. Groan-inducing lines, awesome set pieces, and lots of explosions pretty much sums this experience. So don't expect a good story. Because there isn't one. Most of the games is spent teaching you to use the stop and pop gunplay. Take cover or die, basically. This...
Gears of War is the first console game from developer Epic Games who normally develop games for the P.C market they are attacking the console market with Gears of War.Gears of War is set to emerge onto the 360 on 17 November 2006. The games main mode is a lengthy Single player Campaign as you battle through hordes of enemies called the Locust, and at any time a friend can plug in a controller and join in the fight along side you.Gears is a shooter through and through but with new innovations thi...
This game was truly awe-inspiring, and did wonders considering it was a fresh IP at the time. The game took many simple premises like those of an over the shoulder shooter, and the ability to use cover and expanded on them to a point where they were so intuitive and unique that they are now considered "Gears Mechanics". The multiplayer is adds a new atmosphere to the online shooter genre, and is a refreshingly intense team-based experience....
ProsAmazing graphics, still beat out a lot of games today Awesome weapons, enemies, and environments..Quite unique Great online, requires team work or you'll get your ass kicked. Very nice maps, and plenty of them to play. Also plenty of fun and unique game modes Good storyline. Not one of the best next-gen storylines, but good. ConsLike many other shooters, campaign could be longer. Could use a better matchmaking system, on a lot of occasions you will find yourself and your teammates getting...
All of us Xbox 360 owners have been wating since the 360 came out to play GOW. It was very much worth our wait to. The story here is a alien race invades earth typical for a sci-fi game. The game starts out slow. You are in prision for an untold reason and is "liberated" by your comrades. You start off by either picking traning. (which i recomnd your do) or go straight to battle. The enviroments are PRETTY..Best graphics ive seen so far on my 360. Gameplay is usually fast and tactical..Hiding an...
Gears of War is 2006's bloody third person shooter. The name of the game in Epic's masterpiece is cover. Take cover using A. From there lean out to the side and shoot guys with precision, or blindfire. You slide around cover (which is practically anything in Gears) fill guys up with lead and make a mess of blood. Duck after taking some damage, heal up quickly, and reload. Now reloading in Gears is special, since clicking RB to start the reload and clicking again when the 2 lines are aligned incr...

If there is only 1 game on the xbox 360 that you own it must be GOW! I have spent countless hours annihilating the locust horde. My first impression of the game was that it looked superb. The graphics on the game are amazing with the dark lighting and ruined buildings giving the game a very eerie look that does border on the side of horror. The characters look great and the voice acting is amazing with Marcus Fenix not saying very much, Baird constantly being negative and the Cole-train mouthing...
As i realized i was still playing this game almost 2 years after it came out i knew it was special. The visuals are top notch and the level design in the campaign, while short, is very well done. On the down side the story isn't very compelling but serves its purpose none the less. For those reasons I give Gears of War 4.5 stars just incase Gears 2 improves on the first one (which I think it will)....
Where can I start with a game like Gears of War. This game has everything you could want in an FPS. It has an awesome single player campaign that you will play over at least 10 times. And a great online component where you can play up to 8 people (4 on 4). In a variety of game types from warzone to assassination they are all fantastic. You can also do co-op both with one system and online. In which you play the single player campaign with a buddy. This is a great way to get the achievements due...
Gears of War is one of the latest shooters on the 360 and you play as Marcus Fenix, an ex soldier who was sent to prison because he refused orders when earth was getting attacked; to save his dad! Only to find out his dad already died. 14 years and earth is in war with the locust, a group of monsters previously referred to the boogey man. Dom, a delta squad soldier who breaks into prison and frees Fenix. With the help of Fenix they set to stop the war on earth. The gameplay in gears of war is ba...
First of all, Gears of War is an utterly brilliant experience online and offline. From when you chainsaw your opponent in two, smash your foes face into the ground with the devastating curb-stomp or take off their head with the Sniper Rifle. In the Campaign Mode you play as Marcus Fenix, a disgraced soldier sent to prison for disobeying orders (trying to save his father). This massive war has been going on between the Humans and the terrifying Locust since Emergence Day (The day the Locust launc...
Originally written just after launchThere's probably very little to write in this review that hasn't already been said a million times before. There have been a lot of promises made about the 'next generation' of gaming, and in a lot of cases, across all platforms, these have yet to materialize. But in Epic's outstanding "Gears of War", we see the first real taste of what 'next-gen' really means. Now, it is important to note here that the glimpse of 'next-gen' afforded by this game really only r...
Really what can I Say just a few months after I bought my 360 Gears of War was released and my jaw hit the floor. Up until Gears 2 this was the best looking game ever make for a console to me, and thats even after playing MGS4 which I thought was overrated. This game just brings everything you want from a shooter from a story that makes you want to finish the game. This game like all others have plenty of flaws the talk about the biggest of which was its multiplayer glitches. So if you were new ...
Gears of War (Xbox 360) …Time to put the gears in motion So I’ve finally ranked up at least 12 hours in Gears of War and I’d say it’s about time I let you all know just how good this game is and if it’s worth all the acclaim it has received. After going through the story mode and playing a good amount of hours online, I’m fairly confident in saying that Gears of War is probably one of the top 3 games on the 360 and certainly one of the most enjoyable shooters of all time. Of course, it all c...
I've been playing games since I was a young boy with my dad, watching him on the PC playing this Stealth fighter game from 1987. I remember the FPS genre popping up in the early 90's and they were very crude and not that fun to play. The first FPS that came along which changed everything was Half-Life. It just had such an amazing atmosphere, controls and story telling that other games in the genre didn't have. Now Gears of War was revolutionary like Half-Life but for me it was that game which ju...
Pros:-Great graphics-Excellent cover based mechanics-Multiplayer is solid and has lot's of features-Weapons are fun to use and feel great to shoot-Campaign is solid and of decent length-Co-op is excellent-AI is intelligent and challengingCons:-Weak storyline and charactersGears of War may not have an impressive or engaging storyline, it may not be a game that you come away with thought provoking ideas, however what it does do is it put's a smile on your face by simply being such a joy to play! One of the X-Box 360's standout titles, Gears of War hits you like a chainsaw gun to the face and doesn't relent from start to finish. Players take control of bulky military man Marcus Fenix and tear through a world in chaos in an seemingly futile effort to destroy the monstrous Locust horde. Despite difficulty levels that fluctuate throughout the game, Gears of War is a classic that you should not skip out on if your idea of a good time is splattering the blood of your enemies all over the pave...

Where to start? Well gears of war is most definitely the best game so far that has reached the current gen consoles. I will give you a relatively short, but sweet review of why GoW is imo GOTD. Starting with the single player, it is just the right length; most surely not too short and not too long either (which is probably more annoying, I mean come on; who doesn't have 10 games in their collection that are so long that they have been dumped?). You feel like you have accomplished something inc...
there are a lot of snazzy control effects and pretty colors that most everyone will talk about with GoW. i'm going a different route here. what makes the game amazing? Immersion, pure and simple. the y button acts as an observation key of sorts to direct you to any nifty peripheral action that's going on around you that's important to see. this simple effect places you more in the center of a desperate conflict than anything i've played before. yeah, the detail is off the charts. yes, the cover ...
29/11/2006The Good: Best graphics you can find on the 360; Level designs are very beautiful and unique; You've got a big arsenal of different weapons at your disposal; Co-op works very well; This game is amazingly fun and challenging online The Bad: There is almost no story what so ever; a few glitches that can really disturb you when playing online; gameplay gets repetetive as you move along Now that Gears of War has finaly been released, a lot of people has probably bought this game and aske...
I still say Okami has the best graphics artistically of any game I've seen, but Gears of War easily takes the cake from a technical perspective. Seriously, it looks amazing. I have the good fortune to have a roommate this quarter who has a widescreen HDTV around 40 inches in size, and the game is really a sight to behold. It sounds pretty good too, with solid voices and sound effects. It wouldn't be a good game without gameplay of course, and Gears succeeds there as well. I'm really not that big ...
My eyes are blurry, my head is whoozy, and my ears hear the sound of gunfire when I sleep at night. Why? Because I've been playing Gears of War four nights in a row. So far, I've beaten the game twice and my opinion is that Gears is an addictive, intense, and fun experience that will keep you locking, loading, and unloading 'til the wee hours of the morning. I had my doubts. For all the hype, it just didn't occur to me why Gears was getting so much praise from the gameplay footage I watched ...
Ah, Cliffy B, you saucy minx. Cliffy, or Clifford--whatever the hell you're calling your ass these days--you really know how to draw a gamer in, don't you? You promise me fantastic graphics (courtesy of the now-overused Unreal 3 engine) a smooth frame rate, expansive levels, and compelling action. What do you give me? Everything you promised...except that last little tidbit.Gears of War certainly looks stellar. Seriously, this game is beautiful. The devestated cities of planet Sera are gorgeous, ...
When I first saw Gears of war I was blown away. By its graphics, gameplay, music, just about everything. I knew that this game would become the next "Halo" for the Xbox. The point is. is that you need Gears of War in your 360 collection no matter what. I've rarely been this impressed by a video game. Gears of War--the single player campaign, at least--is a truly stunning and epic experience. The game is rated Mature 17+, so it's obviously not for kids, and the violence, language, and horror elem...
When "Gears of War" was first shown at E3, it blew many people away with its superb graphics, but a question that came to mind was if it would live up to the hype. The answer is yes! Gears of War is a third person shooter from Epic Games. The game lacks a compelling story, but that dosen't matter because you will barely pay attention to it due to the excellent gameplay. What Gears of War lacks is a good story, and a lot of the time you will get confused on what is going on. Apparently there ha...
Sony once claimed that the next generation wouldn't begin until they said so; they couldn't have been more wrong. Released shortly before the PlayStation 3 and Wii, Gears of War took the gaming industry by storm and anyone with an Xbox 360 knew that there was no other place to be at the time. Gears of War was the first game that truly let everyone know that the next generation was here, and it was here to stay. Gears of War is a third-person over the shoulder shooter, that follows four absolute...
Gears of War was hyped to kingdom come and back. It is nearly impossible for a game to truly deliver on hype like that, and the ones that do beome legendary. For some Gears of War did deliver. It delivered on a fair amount for me, but it does fall short in some places. There's no getting around it, the graphics are absolutely flooring. This game truly signaled that the next generation of gaming was here. The characer models, lighting, textures, backgrounds, explosions, vehicles, everything is jus...
Gears of war is a third person shooter game. Its not just a run and gun shooter. This game is a tactical shooter or stop and pop as Epic explains it. Gears of war’s gameplay is nothing short of amazing. The game makes you use cover if you want to survive more than a minute. The games cover is all done through the “a” button which will quickly become the most used button in the game for you. This action button controls roadie run (ducking and sprinting at the same time), entering cover, and use ...
I got to play Gears of War a bit after it had come out and hoopla was over but it is one of the best looking shooters and just a lot of fun with it's cover system and I loved the single player game. I know most liked the multiplayer but I just am not of a fan of one death during a match, too boring for someone starting out after the game had been out awhile. But this certainly is a game that you can coop with friends and have a blast. I know I'm gonna give it one more shot with one of my buddie...
Gears of War is one of those games that relies entirely on pure, unadulterated fun. This fact becomes blatantly obvious when you see that one of the guns has a chainsaw stuck to the end, however, its not exactly lacking in problems either. Besides the longest install time I have ever had to endure, the game is also riddled with bugs and the word “performance” becomes a relative term, in the sense that having it not constantly freeze up and jerk around would be classed as “good” performance. That...
Finally, Gears of War has come to PC's near you. So you don;t got a xbox360? Well if you got a PC this is the game for you. With 5 new mission in campaign and a new maps in multiplayer, you should not pass this game. It's got everything the 360 has but more. The graphics are way prettier and will suck you in. Find a friend join CO OP together to defeat the nasty locust. Join multiplayer with your friends and kick some ass. This game should not be passed by anyone. If you own a good PC this game ...
Gears is so fun if you're the host.Gameplay The singleplayer in gears didn't disappoint it was gritty, bloody, nasty, and so fucking awesome. The weapons are so badass and cool and never get old, especially, yes the fuckin chainsaw. The campaign is a pretty good length although I was a little pissed when I found out all the work of two whole acts had been for nothing (play and find out). But that really doesn't matter because locusts are always fun to chainsaw. The campaign is good for two pl...
Everyone has talked about Gears of War's jaw-dropping graphics. If you haven't seen them yet, you're missing out on an incredible achievement in art and technology. The post-apocalyptic landscapes and the ash-shaded, world-weary faces of the characters are better than realistic - they exist in the hyper-reality of imagination. The soundtrack is operatic, tightening the drama and tension of the plot, which, while it could have fleshed out the characters with more detail or provided more back stor...
Gears of War was released in 2006 for the Xbox 360 and became an instant hit with gamers and critics and can be considered the Xbox equivalent to resident Evil 4 for GameCube, and PS2. Gears starts out with Marcus Fenix in his prison cell, imprisoned for disobeying orders and attempting to save his dad's life. He failed and was sentenced to forty years, but the sentence was cut short as the prison was emptied and the inmates were all recruited to join the C.O.G. army to fight against the Locust ...
Gears is both a refreshing change of pace from Epic -- who have been accused in the past of making pretty games that sell Engines and don't offer anything to PLAY -- and a realization and an extension of the core elements that made their previous titles such fun to blast away in. They still deliver on fast pacing, gripping moments, great "feel" of combat and shooting and amazing graphics. One of the top 3 experiences I've had in a console shooter ever. Easily....
