After the cult success of their 8-bit Master System, Sega decided to give gamers a taste of their arcade capabilities with a 16-bit console. Known worldwide as the Mega Drive but called Genesis in the US, it provided graphics and sound a couple of steps below their popular System 16 arcade cabinets. The Mega Drive/Genesis turned out to be Sega's most successful console.

SFIV Fightpad is nearly identical to the Genesis controller.

I was thinking today that the Street Fighter IV Fightpad has the same button layout as the classic Sega Genesis Controller. Six buttons, and an 8-way directional pad. I've been trying to buy a Fightpad, but my local Best Buy is the only place in town who sells them, and they are sold out.  I picked up Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection today, though. Is the Fightpad only usable with Street Fighter, or would I be able to use it to play all of the Genesis games on the collection? That seems like the best way to play.

I'm pretty sure you can play any game with the controller, it doens't have like extra/less buttons.

I don't know if it will work, that was the question, my Best Buy is sold out. I'm going to buy one regardless, but it would be a plus if it worked with other games.

I just got done checking around town for a fight stick. They are NO WHERE to be found! The ds3 works well for the most part but sometimes I cant pull off the supers exactly when I want to and its annoying me. Thought about buying that fight pad but I dont know if its any better then the ds3.

Late in the Genesis' life, Sega updated the controller to compete with the more advanced SNES controller. Only a few game supported the 6 button layout, and most people remember the Genesis controller like the one you posted. I remember having both kinds, though. It wasn't like some 3rd party turbo controller or anything.

Thanks, my red-ringed 360 is coming in the mail tomorrow-ish too. It actually came today, but I wasn't around to sign for the package!

I don't see why there would be any at all. As far as the PS3/360 are concerned it's a PS3/360 controller.

Funny you should mention this, I bought the Ultimate Megadrive Collection yesterday and my natural instinct was to use my fightpad. I've gotta say, it works like a dream. Although I would say it feels more like a Saturn pad than a Megadrive pad. This is no bad thing of course, despite it's shortcomings, the Saturn had one of the best D-pads ever.
