fat_otter's Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved (Xbox 360 Games Store) review

With this game pre-loaded onto memory cards. There is absolotuly

More than a year after launch, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is still one of the best XBLA games out there. The game is incredibly simple, you fly around a little space ship and kill anything else that moves. You use the left analog stick to move your spacecraft, and the right analog to shoot in any direction. You have 3 primary weapons which change depending on your score. You have a default slow-firing lazer which I personally call the "pea shooter," simply because it's so weak. Once you score 10,000 points, you automatically (and permanently) switch to the two better weapons - "The Spray Gun," which shoots really fast. And the disruptor which fires a bit slower, but is more powerful. Geo Wars has a hand-full of enemies of different shapes and sizes which attack you in different ways. You have blue diamonds, which simply follow you. Purple "saws" which just randomly move across the map. "Snakes" (or "sperm" as some pervs call them) which are longs baddies which only die from head-shots. These are only a sample of the enemies, and there are many more as you progress through the game. You also have bombs which you detonate with the "L" or "R" triggers. Bombs will kill everything on screen at once, which can save your butt later on. But (of course) they don't help out your score. The game lets you play both versions - Evolved (aka, the good version), and Retro (aka the bad version in my opinion.) If you're connected to Xbox Live (you should be), you can track your scores on the leaderboards, and see who rules the Geometry Wars Universe! Overall, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is a fun, and incredibly simple game that you can play again and again without getting bored! Buy it RIGHT NOW!
