Overview
Gettysburg: An Interactive Battle Simulation is a historical-warfare real-time strategy game developed and published by Swfte International for Windows PCs in 1993.
Set in one of the bloodiest and most pivotal battles of the 19th century American Civil War, known as the Battle of Gettysburg, players take control of either the US's Army of the Potomac or the Confederacy's Army of Northern Virginia and issue orders to numerous brigades in order to either minimize casualties as the US or turn the tides as the Confederacy.
The game includes two game modes: Historical Play, which accurately simulates the battle's events and commander tactics with minimal player input, and Free Play, which allows the player to move units as they wish with the computer player's tactics affected.
It later received an updated CD-ROM re-release in 1995, titled Gettysburg: Multimedia Battle Simulation. Developed in collaboration with Turner Interactive, this version adds a new voice narration while adding video clips from the 1993 film Gettysburg.
