For those of you like me, who like not spending money, the website formerly known as Good Old Games has started its annual summer sale with the usual cavalcade of daily bundles and flash sales.

Today's deals are all 3 Roller Coaster Tycoon games for $9 and every good D&D game from the last 16 years for $20, in case you somehow haven't jumped on that but somehow still like those kinds of games. Flash sales seem pretty good too, I snagged a copy of Wizardry 8 (so I can gift it to someone who will never play it) for $2. Catch them while they are hot?

@arbitrarywater: I did play several hours of Wizardry 8! Ah ha! I need to jump back into it. My planning was terrible and I was slaughtered fairly quickly several different times.

The start of Wiz 8 is pretty rough, but I figure that if you can play games where go into items over and over again to make them stronger, you can play Wizardry the Eighth.

I can't believe it---they have Sword of the Samurai on gog.com now!

It's one of the early unsung heroes of the strategy genre, sid meier worked on it.

Also a working version of Pirates! Gold.

    @arbitrarywater: I'll play Wizardry 8.

EDIT: I like how the GOG page for Deus Ex Invisible War describes it as "RPG-ish design", almost as if they're a bit reticent to outright call it an RPG.

@sparky_buzzsaw: I wasn't necessarily referring to you. Perhaps I was referring to a certain individual who has never written a Might and Magic VII or Fallout 1 blog despite having played every single bad famicom platformer and weirdo hentai dating sim under the Moon.

So i got 2 promo codes for the Witcher 3 discounts ($6 each) that add up to $12 and the D&D Masterset comes to exactly $11.95 since I already own half of it, but you can't redeem the separate codes for it. And you can't redeem say 2 games (say for $3 each) using a single code either.

Feels kinda iffy, I'll be honest. :(

Welp I bought 7th Legion, time to shatter my longstanding childhood infatuation with a single magazine cover and an article with a few tiny screenshots. This will probably hurt, a lot.

I don't know, but I'd like it because I am constantly forgetting about GoG games that I have bought that aren't currently installed.

I played a few hours of that and thought it was a pretty cool mix of exploration and tactical combat. Seemed pretty rough though.

And, as always, people should probably buy all 9 Might and Magic games for $8.45

@arbitrarywater: What's rough about it other than the stilted movement on the world map? It has great music and some really great writing too (at one point you're given the option to either say something nice to a companion, bitch at them for absolutely no reason, or kill them outright also for no reason). It's different than your traditional Heroes experience, but seems reasonably polished. Admittedly the world map segment is pretty sketchy, but the core combat is good, the exploration feeling is good, and the storyline/camping is good so that kind of makes up for it.

Sangfroid has some really amazing music, up for 1.50 right now; gets better over time but I wouldn't call it great aside from the music and the laughably (intentionally?) bad cutscenes.

This sale taught me that I am a massive sucker.

Bought more games in this one sale that i am not really going to play, then I probably ever bought on Steam in all sales combined of the same label.

Why in the name of all that's holy did I ever have an idea in my head that Demon Stone was ever anything but a bad game I once played through to completion because there was nothing else at the time.

Sigh, bad decisions all around :(

@fredchuckdave: I believe I meant "rough" in a mechanical sense, like the underlying systems of the combat are smart but not necessarily well-balanced or comprehensive. I'd have to give it another try to elaborate (I also remember being ambushed by a ridiculously large enemy force that my seemingly underleveled party couldn't deal with). The adventures of Patricio Klepeki, Spanish Conquistador, may have to resume at some point.

Also it's the last day of the sale if anyone wants to pick up any of the bundles they missed, assuming you all haven't just drained your wallets buying the same games on Steam.

@arbitrarywater: There's a very small random chance to fight the big 10 turn ambush but I believe you have to do all the other random encounters first; you need barricades to win that fight (or really good RNG I suppose); you also need barricades for the last fight of the Hispaniola campaign. The tactical combat is just as good as any other system, just you have "equipment" as a resource and you personally dole out experience instead of just having gradual gear upgrades over the course of the game; and the AI can be tricky sometimes and remarkably stupid other times like any tactics game; it doesn't cheat though so that's good. If you're not ready for the fight just reload your autosave.
