    Gold Farming

    Concept »

The practice of gathering a large amount of ingame currency mostly in an MMORPG, and then selling the currency to other players for real world cash. It has been forbidden outright in most MMOs.

    Short summary describing this concept.

Gold Farming, also known as Real World Trading or Real Money Trading is the act of gathering large amounts of ingame currency in an online game, and selling the virtual currency for real world profit. This is often done through bot programs which often repeat actions to maximise gold gain or through people employed to farm gold.

Many MMOs (including World of Warcraft, Runescape, Final Fantasy XI, Guild Wars and many others) have forbidden this, and have even tried taking measures to stop RMT, as the act of buying ingame currency is often viewed as an unfair advantage.
