Goldeneye 007 Remake Revealed, Exclusive For Wii

Posted by MattBodega (1903 posts) -

The long rumored Goldeneye remake has finally been revealed. Today, at their E3 Press Conference, Nintendo revealed that Activision and Eurocom were developing a remake of the Nintendo 64 FPS classic Goldeneye. Developed exclusively for the Wii, Goldeneye looks to use the same plot and environments from the original game, updated with Wii motion controls, a more modern graphical palette and a completely different James Bond character.

The new Goldeneye will use current franchise star Daniel Craig (instead of the actor in the original movie/game, Pierce Brosnan) but still take place in the same plot as the 13 year old Goldeneye. The remake will see the return of the original game's splitscreen multiplayer, as well as its variety of gameplay types (fingers crossed for Donkey Kong Mode!).

Goldeneye 007 will be out on the Wii this holiday, so expect to see Daniel Craig jumping into a tank and driving up to the airplane before too long.. Is this remake what you guys have always wanted from a new Goldeneye? Are you folks interested in picking it up and taping cardboard to your TV like it's 1997?

I'll be curious to see if they have the original as an unlockable feature or something in the remake.

No Oddjob!

I'm really excited about this, seems to be right on.

#7 Posted by Pie (6935 posts) -

I thought it was a brand new Goldeneye game, not just a remake

#8 Posted by Tally_Pants (589 posts) -

YES!! This will be amazing!
#9 Edited by IncredibleBulk92 (936 posts) -

If only it was on a console that had a real control scheme.  Oh well.

Besides why make a game based on Goldeneye without the actual guy who was in Goldeneye? Is it some sort of copyright reason?

#10 Posted by ToadRunner (277 posts) -

Lol, every single giant bomb goldeneye article talks about cardboard on tv's.

Gotta love it haha

#11 Posted by Babylonian (836 posts) -

I'm not as sure this is a remake.

#12 Posted by Cube (4366 posts) -

Not made by Rare. Meh.

#13 Posted by DjRich (122 posts) -

If the Nintendo press conference told us one thing. It's that it is 1990 and here is your bottle of shasta to play Goldeneye all night for.

I really wanted an HD remake for download on XBLA or PSN like what Rare did for Perfect Dark on XBLA. I'm guessing Nintendo owns the Goldeneye franchise from N64, so naturally their the only ones that could remake. Disappointed.

#15 Posted by Fallen189 (4911 posts) -

When did they say this is a remake and not a new game?

#16 Posted by JJOR64 (18782 posts) -

It doesn't look that good, plus with WFC, people will probably hack the online like The Conduit and CoD 4 Wii.

#17 Posted by B0nd07 (1674 posts) -

I can't wait for this!

#18 Edited by TripMasterMunky (2403 posts) -

So is this a remake or a reboot? I thought it was a new reboot.

Also, this game will probably be pretty average.

Not impressed. I'm not a fan of the new "takedown" things. This looks a lot like Call of Duty: In the Facility. The graphics look shockingly similar for something that is supposed to be a remake rather than port. And last, but not least, Daniel Craig? Common.

This looks bad.  FPS's don't play or look good on the wii.  They should stick to more stylized games like Epic Mickey, or Donkey Kong (which I think looks awesome)

#21 Posted by Aarduil (45 posts) -

Maybe the first good shooter for Wii? Or maybe not.

#22 Posted by ThaMilkMan (339 posts) -

Hhhmmm played the first one once upon a time...kinda doubt this thing controlling all that well though...but could be good.

This seems like a really weird way to put this out again.

#24 Posted by Ineedaname (4319 posts) -

As I said before, it's Goldeneye now and not then, I don't feel this will be all that good.
Maybe as a nostalgia piece, but that's it.

Only thing that excited me about a Goldeneye reveal a year ago, was the fact that it would get the HD treatment. That video just reminded me of why I can't play Goldeneye 64 anymore on my tv!
#26 Posted by JoshB (169 posts) -

ick. No Thank you. Rare had it right with the perfect dark remake on the 360. this looks like a terrible cash in.

"  Are you folks interested in picking it up and taping cardboard to your TV like it's 1997?"

STOP IT. WE GET IT: YOU PLAYED GOLDENEYE. STOP TRYING TO SHOW OFF YOUR GAMING CRED.

Oh and the Wii doesn't have the controls for a decent FPS. Should have been on XBLA.

#28 Posted by TheCreamFilling (1220 posts) -

It looks damn ugly.

Goldeneye wasn't all that good back then.  Sure it was a good fun time and let you do FPS on a console, but I was playing Q2 back then and the difference was night and day.  It's nice to see the past, but I don't hold this game in as high regard as their "focus testers."  :\

Well, if the trailer was anything to judge by, it looked very unimpressive.

#31 Posted by Wicked_Wumpus (168 posts) -

I cannot wait!

#32 Posted by FritzDude (2216 posts) -

Remake, ey? Couldn't Rare just make an HD remake of this on the 360 and release it on XBLA?
#33 Posted by ReDfr0st (138 posts) -

Did we time travel? goldeneye and a 3d nintendo handheld, WTF!!!!!!

#34 Posted by fillmoejoe (1469 posts) -

Looks just like the N64. Great...

#35 Posted by Yummylee (20559 posts) -

If it can be played with a classic controller or even the gamecube pad, I think it'll satisfy with some fun retro FPSing

#36 Posted by EdwardHyena (10 posts) -

Part of the reason the original GoldenEye was so awesome was Rare. Rare will have nothing to do with this game, so I am skeptical.

I only have one question... WHY?

You mean Why not amirite?

Why the fuck are graphics so crappy, even for a Wii game.  And why is Daniel Craig in it?  What the fuck man!

I never played GoldenEye back in the days, so I'm lost on this joke. Care to enlighten me?
#41 Posted by HexenNOR (11 posts) -

This kinda dissapoint me. I loved the old goldeneye, but this just didn't capture me.

#42 Posted by AltDimension (257 posts) -

Loving how the graphics are the same.

#43 Posted by HT101 (1150 posts) -

Was not a fan of the original so why would I want to play more of something I didn't like in the first place?  Nintendo showed a lot of games, which is good, but most of them I just don't care about.  So far, for me anyway, Microsoft is still in the lead, but just barely.  Let's see what Sony has to offer us.

#44 Posted by MooseyMcMan (9737 posts) -

I wouldn't buy it solely because of Daniel Craig. I didn't think he was a right fit for Bond, and Casino Royale was one of my least favorite Bond movies. Yes, I dislike Daniel Craig that much.

#45 Posted by fastidious (89 posts) -

Goldeneye was a great game in the N64 days, I expect the fond memories won't stack up to the reality of playing it again nowadays.

#46 Posted by napalmtrees (77 posts) -

Remember Rogue Agent?  Yeah.... not too confident in this.

#47 Edited by PenguinDust (12414 posts) -

This is a game for the fanboys and that's okay, but I don't think bringing traditional FPS over to the Wii is a smart or necessary idea.  I believe and have seen 'core game experiences on the Wii that are not the same thing that Sony and Microsoft do better on their platforms.  Nintendo and its 3rd parties should concentrate on those types of games and leave the FPS games to the HD consoles.

#48 Edited by Claude (16251 posts) -

At least I won't have to use a crappy dual analog pad for controls, that shit sucks for FPSs. If it's not on the PC, I'll take the Wii controls anyday.

#49 Edited by Nasar7 (2500 posts) -

No online? And what was wrong with Pierce Brosnan?

#50 Posted by VWGTI (1919 posts) -

Bad idea is baaaaaad.
