One thing i couldnt figure out. Possibly Spoilers

Just finished Gone Home, and i loved it.

One thing that constantly weirded me out early on and further increased the creepy vibe was that all the rooms have their VCR's removed? Is this ever explained or is it simply because Terry works for an AV magazine and likely swaps out units for review?

At some point there's a note from Sam that says something like "Sorry about the stuff I took." Also if you go back and watch the trailer for the game, the SNES in Sam's room is still there.

I figure there was supposed to games consoles there, but they couldn't get the rights to show 'em. You can show games cartridges by making fake games, but making fake consoles would break the realism.

Maybe.

I spend a good time walking around looking for the SNES because I had seen it in the trailer.

The stuff about him working for AV magazines is right, but I imagine Sam also took all of it when she left to pawn for money.
