He is a pretty great character.  I love that he basically causes the whole thing in the first place and doesn't show any remorse at any stage.  I always get the impression that, if he had the choice, he would rather be anywhere else rather than here saving humanity.  Look at his picture, he totally doesn't give a shit about anything - and tbh I think he just finds Alyx irritating.

Freeman is good and all, or rather the games he is in are good, but I don't remember him even saying anything or doing anything more amazing than other video game heroes.  I really can't think of any other heroes though, so good for Freeman in his win.

Well I wouldn't know about the greatest videogame character. The franchise is fantastic though. I guess people like him since he breaks off from the common archetype of an action hero. The whole competition was trash anyway. I'm just glad it's a good character. I would've killed myself if it was MasterChief.
