Not How I Wanted To Spend My Weekend of Gaming
i don't have the pic anymore, but last month i popped gt5 in for a quick race and had an update that took 7000 or so minutes.
how bad are your internet connections? downloading something from PSN is the same speed as downloading something from a website, but the only thing that sucks is you're forced to watch the download bar instead of doing something else during that time.
yeah one time black ops had to update, my friend has good internet but we were not gonna wait 204 minutes....

It doesn't matter if it is GT5 or Killzone 2, the infrastructure of the system is terrible and that needs to change.

No matter what, when I turn my PS3 on I get something similar, maybe I should use the thing more often to avoid this?

" @EVO said:Except when you get an error message saying you don't have the 5GB of space which PSN is trying to auto download! I need to check into it, but I would love for there to be an option for prioritizing or configuring what PS+ Auto download will do. I don't care about getting an exclusive demo auto installed (especially as I haven't upgraded from my 80 GB drive yet). I don't mind taking the time to go to the store and click on the icon for the demo. I do care about getting patches pre-installed so I don't have to wait to download and install for games. If I could only select to have those patches installed, I would be more content with the service." @Devil240Z said:heh well its a feature of PS Plus. Sony's version of Xbox live gold. Yes, that."whats lame? free multiplayer gaming with the option to pay for icing on the cake features like auto updating and cloud saving? "
What makes charging for multiplayer dirty, but charging for other features like this one fine?
Especially one's that improve the currently sub-par updating features of the PS3? The fact that you consider a quick and smooth system update "icing on the cake" is a little crazy to me - that should be core functionality.
The cloud save thing is fine in my books, and the free content pays for Plus on it's own but c'mon this auto-download solves what many consider to be a real problem with the PS3 that could use fixing. I'm guessing the next PS+ feature will be faster downloads - again something that I think should be fixed for everyone.
I'm not questioning the value of PS+, I'm questioning the decision to make every new improvement a PS+ only feature.
@ProfessorEss: I guess I sort of agree with you but Sony has to get some cash on the side somehow. I imagine Microsoft makes a shit load of money from gold where Sony doesn't have a similar source of profit from a seemingly intangible product.
I'd subscribe if I wasn't already backlogged and limited in my gaming hours as it is (my XBL Gold may have lapsed too come to think of it).
Just turned on the PSN+ Auto-Download feature, I forgot I just bought a year's worth of PSN+ for the Mortal Kombat demo, does it power itself down after it's updated?
" @railbird13: I had that problem once. But I deletes some crap and have been ok. But I need to get a bigger HDD. whats the biggest size the PS3 will take? I have a 320 in now.Does that autodownload download game updates too? I thought it was just System Level stuff. Might have to get a Plus subscription...

" @Devil240Z said:Yup, it does everything. Pre-selected demos (like Mortal Kombat), software updates for games, and system patches. I usually have mine come on when I'm at work so I can come home and not have to worry about patching." @railbird13: I had that problem once. But I deletes some crap and have been ok. No, not FTW, steam has this thing where it updates without anything happening on my end, I turn on system and EVERYTHING updates. That is what needs to happen. Also, when you download a new game from the store, it needs to be the UPDATED version and not the 1.0 version. Again, something from steam to eliminate downloading time.
And making it a PS+ item doesn't do anything except for make me not want a PS3 anymore. It is assinine to charge me for something that should be there in the first place. If sony wants to beat MS then they should do it, not become them.

" @StaticFalconar said:That could be how your experience is, but I remember the amount of time it takes to download Mass Effect 2 on steam and PS3 (don't ask me why I bought both versions), were both really long.
