I don't think Forza gives the user the ability to edit existing tracks as well as create your own.

Now the question of how much freedom you have in creating the tracks come into mind. But I'm still excited to hear this. Hopefully users will be able to upload and share tracks with others. I can see great things with this game.

With the recent rumors and videos that have been going around about Gran Turismo 5 having a track editor, we decided to contact the developers to find out if it was true or not. Now, we have a official answer.

They were kind enough to give us a quick response and this is what a representative said:

“Yes it will have a track editor. You will be able to rebuild a track from scratch or edit the tracks that are already put in Gran Turismo 5.”

We also asked them when Gran Turismo 5 would be launched world wide. A representative replied with:

“Sorry, we can’t give out any of that information at the moment. You will just have to wait and see.”

Looks like Gran Turismo 5 will live up to its name, “The Real Driving Simulator”.

Actually this rumor started at DigiExpo in Finland, where an Sony's representative mentionet that "you can make your own tracks". The interview can be seen @:
http://www.iltalehti.fi/nettitv/?8520265 though that is in Finnish entirely. But as a Finn I can confirm that he clearly mentions that "you get to create your own tracks". And track, as an racing track, is clearly a different word than track, as an audio track. So no misinterpretation there.

Haha... I loved that game on the N64. I want to make a track where I race through Washington D.C.

@SILIK: I understood track as in race track not audio track. I don't know how anyone could come away thinking they were talking about creating your own audio tracks in a racing game lol.

No, no. I mean, as an example, in GTPlanet forum, some people asked if it would be possible to misinterpret the meaning in Finnish language. As in english, track can mean audio track or a race track. And no, what he says in the video is definently a race track.

And what he actually says, the meaningful part, is that "...you get more experienced, you can create your own tracks and compete against others online".

@SILIK: This is very true. When the game drops it will make all other racing games look dated in terms of features to offer to the end user. Glad Sony isn't scared to put such power in the hands of others.

If I was apart of the marketing team for the game I would put together a track creation contest. The 3 winners would have their tracks featured in the game and have their PSN names published for all to see.

All other tracks would be uploaded to a server for free downloading. This would put that 120 and 250 HD to some good use.

Let's make it happen Sony!

It will definitely be interesting to see how that turns out. It will obviously depend on how detailed you can get, because for all we know it could be taking a full circuit and just choosing where the turns are. It's a great idea though, and will definitely add to the community aspect of the game.

I'm beginning to wonder if the team is trying to put too much into this one game. The last thing they want to get themselves caught being is the jack of all trades, master of none. Like in Forza it's obvious that, yes the driving is great, but they've focused heavily on the community for their bread and butter. Regardless, I'm excited to see how GT5 does because it's got sooo much crammed into it. Until then, I'll be playing Forza.

I'm not sure I believe this yes. It all sounds very rumour-y at this stage. Until Polyphony come out and show it off... I remain cautious. But optimistic because it COULD be a great extension to GT5.

Well track editor would answer at least one puzzling question. And I'm speaking about the Mercedes commercial that hit youtube last month with Kazunori Yamauchi holding a GT5 package, which included three discs...

And I think this is getting more real by the minute. As of today, one Finnish gaming website released a news saying "Gran Turismo 5 has a track editor?". And the site mentioned is really causious about posting rumors. Yes they used question mark, but still...that's something they'll do only if they have some sort of confirmation. But then again...internet is a crazy place.
