You know, I really do like the game, but its just not goty to me at all.
The thing I can't really put my finger on why.
GT6 is the most accessible one to date. No more levels of what you're driver must be to qualify what race and car to get. No more Second hand car shop wasting time just to hopefully get a glimps of your fav car then find out you don't have the right levels or something. The only real progression is License test (real logical, since no one is having fun if you spin out at every corner) and collecting a minimum number of stars that you get by completing races.
Besides opening up the more career races, the stars and license test also open up the fun side stuff like Goodwood festival of speed, redbull challenge, and driving on the MOOOONN!!!! It all is real easy and the payouts for everything doesn't make you have to grind anything really if you are indeed the smallest bit, a car guy that knows how to pick a half decent car for the next leg of your career. If one keeps in mind of having to diversify your garage when you initially expand it, you will never find yourself in the situation where you have to go back to grind some money.
In fact I was a bit shocked how open the game was. Every single car is now up for grabs, the only thing holding you back is money. This of course was initially great in my mind since as soon as I had enough money, I can go straight for the specific car I wanted. No more trying to buy a cheap regular Civic to start with, mod your way up and when you finally see the Spoon aftermarket Civic you snatch that up and never drive the regular one again. That makes hitting all your old miles stones of completing your personal garage of cars that you care about much faster as well as using them in the career mode that much earlier.
That being said, they kinda shot themselves in the foot as well. Before, I was waiting around for the perfect version of the R34 lets say, but now I can go directly to it. More now then ever, having 10 versions of the same car is a waste when its so easy to go for the one I want. At the same time however, what's my favorite version of the skyline may not be the same as others so i can see keeping the list as a good thing as well.
Still, the official F1 cars are suddenly gone, Top gear Test track has gone ethereal, and there's only the old WRC cars around. Despite having several pikes peak cars included now (yay), Pikes peak itself is no where to be found. Even though they don't make a big deal about the whole premium and standard cars, it still does exist.
Yes I'm glad they got the new Viper, Vette and Huarya; but they missed out the P1 and LaFerrari. The last two didn't come out yet, so I can't blame them too much, yet the veyron Super sport has been. The top speed record has been broken several times since gt5 and all the cars surrounding that dick measuring contest just aren't around.
Like I wrote before, I like GT6 but it still fails short of what I want it to be. Perhaps what I want really is too ambitious to truly make, but when you got games like the last of us that came out this year, I cannot say gt6 is goty for me since entire time playing gt6, I keep saying to myself how close gt6 was to my dreams, yet still just not quite there. When playing games like the Last of Us or BioShock inifinite even, I was immersed in the experience so much that I didn't mind all their short falls.
Yes I can see how I could have made this post into its own review or blog, but I guess I kinda just rambled on in typing a response./.......
