I was supposed to babysit this five year old kid just for a few minutes, and I asked if he wanted to play some xbox. He joyously replied yes, and looked through the games I had. Of all the games he pulled out GTA 4 and said "I want to play this game!" I said alright and let him put it on. I figured that shooting people up wasn't appropriate so I put the character in a vehicle, and I showed the kid how to drive. 5 seconds later he was mowing down civilians on the sidewalk, and ended up in a park where he kept mowing down the ragdolling NPCs. He stopped the car, turned around and looked at me with his big blue eyes and asked "are they dead?" While thinking about how bad of an idea this really was I answered ".. No, they can't die.." he looked at the screen for a couple of seconds... then looked back at me again and said "I think this game is for bigger boys"

I then put on Blur. Less violent. Now I need to find a way to score some good karma points.

Great, now he thinks people won't die if he runs them over with a car.

You should probably keep him away from cars...

Oh he picked it? Clearly there was no other recourse but to let him play it then.

Personally I don't think it's that big a deal, I remember my cousins who were 6 and 4 watching me playing zombie apocalypse and they older one said "I don't think we should be watching this" and I just said probably not. They better not blame me when they are unprepared for when the zombies come.

But I'm glad the parents are doing their job right. 5 is still pretty young to feel the guilty pleasure in killing virtual people, but nevertheless, he stopped before he started enjoying it, so all is good.

I was playing GTA III when I was like nine, Manhunt when I was in my first year of secondary school, Max Payne when I was eight and I've only violently killed a few people in my life. It doesn't mess you up at all, just depends on the kid.

It's not that bad, my dad taught me how to play Duke Nukem 3D when I was two, and I turned out fine. Probably won't affect him.
