Suda 51's Grasshopper Manufacture and Hungarian-based studio Digital Reality are hooking up to put out "a range of games." The first of them, a side-scrolling shooter named Sine Mora, has just been announced at Gamescom in Cologne.

Details about the game are slim at the moment, but there's a couple of pertinent facts floating around. For example, Sine Maru will feature "unique time manipulation" mechanics in contrast to its "traditional" side-scrolling play. It will also harness the "newest in 3D display technology," whatever that means.

Sine Maru will be an Xbox Live Marketplace and PSN joint, and it appears as though the rest of Grasshopper and Digital Reality's games will be downloadable as well, but may not be bound to either of these networks. A wrinkle in a statement from Suda makes it seem as if other titles could be more far-reaching in terms of audience and platform--broader as in, possibly, browser-based or handset-based, which just so happens to jive with Digital Reality's mission.

Sine Maru will look nothing like this. I think.
Sine Maru will look nothing like this. I think.

"We think we can strongly benefit from having an ally such as Digital Reality in the digital publishing realm, who can provide long term online publishing services to its partners, and to gamers," Suda 51 said, while probably wearing some pretty snazzy kicks.

Digital Reality, the developer, formerly named Amnesty Design before a rebranding in 1997, is responsible for such games as Desert Rats vs. Afrika Korps, Haegemonia, Imperium Galactica, and War Front: Turning Point. In the more casual realm, Digital Reality the publisher has put out much smaller games like Asteroid Miner and puzzle action game Scarabeus: Pearls of Nile.

So long as it's not another No More Heroes, I'm fine with that.
3D tech in a side-scroller. Hopefully that plays into the hands of some good motion parallax.

"Sine Maru"? WTF? Why did that name suddenly change after the first paragraph of the story?

    Sine Mora or Sine Maru?

    A bit sloppy, yes.

Personally I'm hoping for "Maru", but a quick hop over to grasshoppers webnets showed that "Sine Mora" is the correct one...

Why did it change to Sine Maru after the first paragraph? Is it Sine Maru or Sine Mora?

I've heard conflicting reports on whether Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill composer) is just working on the Mikami-Suda EA title, or if he's actually with Grasshopper itself.  If the latter is true, is he going to be involved in any of these downloadable joints?

Anything mentioned about a US release for the 360 version of No More Heroes?

Grasshopper is teaming up with a company that has made many strategy games? Wonder how a NMH RTS game would look like. :)

Give Suda 51 the tools and he will deliver! That's usually a good thing.

After playing No More Heroes, the only Suda project I'm interested in is the EA-published Suda-Mikami-Yamaoka collaboration. And that's despite his involvement, not because of it.

I hope Sine Maru will get a pc release sooner or later, mainly because my primary choice for gaming is the pc.

The screenshot looks like the guy who played Shaggy in the Scooby Doo movie.
