Campaign Achievements


Green as Grass
Train the rook (any difficulty) - 10
At the start of the game you will be introduced to a new recruit. After the opening cut scene, you will then be given two options chose the right hand option to train him and complete the small training section to unlock the achievement.


It's a Trap!

Tourist of Duty
Completed all campaign acts on Casual Difficulty - 25
Even for someone who has never played Gears of War the casual difficulty won't be challenging at all, just stay in cover and take your time clearing out areas before you move ahead.


Guerilla Tactician
Completed all campaign acts on Normal Difficulty - 50
A little bit harder than casual but most people still won't have any problems with this difficulty, you won't be able to run out into the open as much as you can in casual so you'll have to be a bit more careful.


Artist of War
Completed all campaign acts on Hardcore Difficulty - 75
Quite a bit harder than Normal and you really will have to stay in cover as you can take nowhere near as many bullets as you can on normal or casual, if you're having trouble try and get a friend to join you and help you out.


Suicide Missionary
Completed all campaign acts on Insane Difficulty - 150
Insane mode is not unlocked until you have completed the campaign at least once before, Insane is fairly challenging even for experienced Gears players but there is a fairly easy way to get through it. Sign in a guest profile and then start up a split screen campaign put the main profile on insane and the guest account on casual and then at the beginning of every chapter or just after checkpoints make sure the insane profile is in cover and won't be shot and then just go through the game using the guest profile that is on casual. In Act 2 Chapter 6 run about 10-15 yards with one controller then switch to the other and run about the same distance. In Act 3 Chapter 6 put the insane profile at the back out of the way where they won't get hit and do all the work with the casual profile.

Co-Op Achievements


One-Night Stand
Completed 1 chapter in Co-op on any difficulty - 10
Pretty self-explanatory, if you use the method I stated for Insane you will get this whilst playing through.


Open Relationship
Completed 10 chapters in Co-op on any difficulty - 30
Pretty self-explanatory, if you use the method I stated for Insane you will get this whilst playing through.


Friends with Benefits
Completed all acts in Co-op on any difficulty - 50
Pretty self-explanatory, if you use the method I stated for Insane you will get this whilst playing through.

Weapon Specific / Kills Achievements


Crossed Swords
Win 10 chainsaw duels (any mode) - 10
Set up a local Annex game against a second profile and just run to the other spawn hold B on both controllers and then walk up to the splitscreen player and a chainsaw duel should occur, then just mash the B button on the profile your trying to get the achievement for and repeat it 10 times.


Pound of Flesh
Use a meatshield to save your life 10 times (any mode) - 10
Set up a local Annex game the same as before with all the weapons swapped to frag grenades pick up four frags and then run to the other spawn, down the splitscreen player, grenade tag him by pressing B with grenades equipped and then quickly pick him up as a meat shield by pressing A, repeat this 10 times to get the achievement.


Organ Grinder
Kill 30 enemies with a cover mounted Mulcher (any mode) - 10
Set up a local Annex game with 9 bots on the casual difficulty, swap all the weapons for the Mulcher and then go pick up the Mulcher and take cover near the Annex by pressing A next to a wall. (You will need to be able to shoot over the wall.) Hold the left trigger and you should put the Mulcher on top of the wall, the bots will all run for the Annex and then just kill them all when they try and get the Annex.


Shock and Awe
Kill 30 enemies with the heavy Mortar (any mode) - 10
Set up the exact same game as with the Mulcher achievement except this time swap out the Mulcher for the Mortar, wait for all the bots to try and take the Annex and then just kill them all using the Mortar. You will probably get this anyway whilst playing through the campaign.


Said the Spider to the Fly
Kill 10 enemies with a planted grenade (any mode) - 10
Again set up an Annex game but just use a split screen profile instead of 9 bots, swap out all the weapons to frags and then with the frags equipped tag a wall by pressing B and that grenade will now explode when an enemy walks past it, so just take the split screen controller and walk past the frag and repeat it 10 times to get the achievement. This also works with Ink grenades but it will take a little longer.


Crowd Control
Melee 10 enemies down with the Boomshield equipped (any mode) - 10
You will first see the boomshield in the campaign, it is carried by "Maulers" which are the big boomer type enemies that swing a giant mace, when you get your hands on one run up to an enemy and melee them down with your pistol by repeatedly hitting B, once they are down press B again to finish them off. Repeat it ten times for the achievement. If you don't get it whilst playing through the campaign just set up an Annex game and swap out all the weapons to the boomshield and just use the method above on the splitscreen profile.


Smells Like Victory
Kill 30 enemies with the Scorcher Flamethrower (any mode) - 10
The flamethrower is first made available when you are in the research facility in the campaign, pick it up and just use it to kill all the wretches in the chapter, if you still don't have the achievement by the end of the campaign then the quickest way to get flamethrower kills is just to replay that chapter and kill all the wretches.


Once More, With Feeling
Perform 30 perfect Active Reloads (any mode) - 10
An active reload is where you hit RB to reload and then hit it again when the small slider is in the white bar you will definitely get this whilst playing through the game anyway.


Takes a Licking
Melee 30 Tickers (any mode) - 30
Tickers are the small little wretch like things that you first encounter in Act 1 Chapter 5, play through the Chapter until you come to a part where you have to go through a tunnel and just get your shotgun or pistol out and melee all the tickers that are in the tunnel. Reload the checkpoint towards the end of this sequence and keep repeating the checkpoint until you get the achievement.


A Parting Gift
Kill 10 enemies with a grenade while down but not out (any mode) - 20
The easiest way to do this is to set up a local Annex splitscreen game with all the weapons swapped to frag grenades and with a 60 second bleed-out. Grab the grenades and run to the other spawn, make sure you have grenades equipped and then down the profile you are trying to get the achievement for with the split screen profile and then walk the splitscreen profile over to the downed body, then press RT on the main profile to kill the splitscreen player. Repeat this 10 times to get the achievement.


Variety Is the Spice of Death
Kill an enemy with every weapon in the game (any mode) - 30
There are a total of 15 weapons in the game, they are:
  • Boltok Pistol
  • Snub Pistol
  • Gorgon Pistol
  • Hammerburst
  • Lancer
  • Boomshot
  • Shotgun
  • Hammer of Dawn
  • Longshot Sniper Rifle
  • Torque Bow
  • Mortar Launcher
  • Mulcher Chain-gun
  • Scorcher Flamethrower
  • Frag Grenade
  • Ink Grenade

Make a note of which weapons you have used whilst playing through the campaign as it will save you a lot of time when you come to use the weapons you have missed after the campaign. Just set up a bot game with all the weapons swapped to the one you need and just repeat it for all the weapons you need a kill with.


Kick 'Em When They're Down
Perform all 11 unique executions on a downed enemy - 10
To perform an execution you must down an enemy and then run over to them and peform the required execution, these are:
  •  Torque Bow + Y
  • Torque Bow + B
  • Longshot + Y
  • Longshot + B
  • Boltok Pistol + Y
  • Shotgun + B
  • Take a Meatshield and then press X to snap it's neck
  • Just press X with any weapon equipped
  • Press Y with a weapon that has no specific execution e.g. Scorcher, Shotgun...
  • Boomshield + Y
  • Lancer + Y


Seriously 2.0
Kill 100,000 enemies (any mode) - 50

The quickest way to do this is to load up Act 5 Chapter 5 aim at the back group of locust fire the rockets by pressing X and then quickly aim at the group at the front, the rockets will split up and kill both groups, if you need further guidance the video below should help you. Make sure you quit out to the menu instead of quitting straight to the dashboard as any kills you got in that session will not count if you just turn your 360 off. Sometimes there is a glitch and no locust will appear, if this happens just re-load the checkpoint.
  

Multiplayer Achievements


Photojournalist
Submit a spectator photo - 10
When you get killed in any MP mode press B whilst spectating and you will take a photo, then the next time you are in the main menu go to the War Journal, select photos and then choose to upload that photo.


Standing Here, Beside Myself
Win 3 matches of Wingman (public) - 10
Wingman is a game where 4 teams of 2 players compete to be the first to get to 15 points, you get 1 point for each kill you get and another bonus point if your team is the one team that survives the round (Only 1 player has to be alive). Play with someone you know and someone who is talking and you should have a big advantage over people who are just playing with a random guy and they aren't talking. This has to be done in a public game not private or local.


Beat the Meatflag
Capture 10 meatflags in Submission (public) - 10
To capture a meatflag you must down the meatflag and then take him as a meatshield and take him over to the capture point which is shown on your screen. This will probably take the longest of the multiplayer achievements as capturing meatflags can take a while. This has to be done in a public game not private or local.


It's Good to be the King
Win 10 rounds of Guardian as the leader (public) - 10
Guardian is similar to the assassination mode from Gears 1, except the enemy team will respawn as long as their leader is alive. The leader is randomly selected at the start of the game and then it is determined by whoever kills the enemy leader. So if you kill the leader in one round you will be the leader in the next.  This has to be done in a public game not private or local.


You Go Ahead, I'll Be Fine
Win 3 matches of King of the Hill (public) - 10
King of the hill is similar to Annex but the hill does not move and you have to have at least one person in the hill at all times to be scoring points. Try and get together a team of friends and it should be a lot easy than playing with a bunch of random guys. This has to be done in a public game not private or local.


Back to Basic
Successfully complete the 5 lessons of multiplayer Training Grounds - 10
Select "Training ground from the main menu and simply win all 5 of the training ground multiplayer tutorials.


Party Like It's 1999
Play 1999 rounds of multiplayer (any mode) - 30
The quickest way to get this achievement is to set up a game with the following rules and just leave your 360 running when you go to work or school or just leave it on overnight. Make sure you are using a wired controller or a wired guitar controller or drum controller. Using the play and charge kit also works.

Set up a 1 round warzone against a split screen profile and just run to the other spawn and kill the splitscreen player. The 10 maps are:

  • Jancinto
  • Pavilion
  • River
  • Ruins
  • Security
  • Stasis

Horde Mode Achievements


Dirty, Dirty Horde
Survive the first 10 waves of Horde (any difficulty, any map) - 20
See "Hoard the Horde"


Hoard the Horde
Survive all 50 waves of Horde (any difficulty, any map) - 30
This will be made a lot easier if you have a full team. Set up a game on casual difficulty on the map security, deactivate the security system early on in the game and get all 5 players in the small area that is normally protected by laser beams. Once you have all 5 players in there with the security system back up beating all 50 waves shouldn't be a problem. You do not have to do all 50 waves in one sitting, you can start from the highest wave you have got to.

Collectables Guide

I did not make the following videos they were made by "xyjar" on youtube I am not trying to take credit for the following videos. When I was playing through the game I struggled to find a decent text guide so I wrote this as I was going through the game. Using this text guide as well as the video should make getting all the collectables fairly easy. If you are playing co-op and one person picks up a collectable you both get credit for it.

Act 1

  


Chapter 1
- Welcome to Delta
  • At the start of the game choose to train the rook and the first collectable is right near the start of the training section. As you walk down the street you will see a desk standing on end, the collectable is just past the desk on the ground. The collectable is called "The Eagle Newspaper"
  • After sliding down a ladder towards the end of the section Dom will talk about heading back to the hospital, before you do this head in the opposite direction past a van into a garage kind of building, when you are in the building turn left and walk over to the desk. The collectable is on the floor just before the desk. The Collectable is called "Ambulance Drivers Log"

Chapter 2 - Desperation
  • Near the start of the chapter you will be running down a hallway, keep a look out at the signs hanging from the ceiling, when you see the one that says "Wards 1-3" turn left into a small room and the collectable is on the floor in the room. The collectable is called "Doctors Journal"
  • After going downstairs there is a small room with 2 horseshoe shaped desks in the middle, after you clear out all the locust from this area go in-between the 2 desks and the collectable is on the floor. The collectable is called "Jacinto Medical Centre File"
  • After the courtyard section you will see a kitchen area, directly opposite the entrance to the kitchen is a small room, the collectable is on the floor inside the small room just next to the desk. The collectable is called "COG Letterhead"
  • A little further on after the previous collectable you will come to a gloomy room where you need to go down a set of stairs to continue, instead of heading down the stairs head right and then down to the end of the balcony, the collectable is bright red and is next to an ammo crate. The collectable is called "COG Proclamation"
  • As soon as you exit the building later on in the chapter turn to your right immediately and then as soon as you pass the pillar on the wall turn right again and the collectable is in the corner. The collectable is called "COG Tag - CSID: 085177-MJ3V5PB"

Chapter 3 - Rolling Thunder
  • Right at the start of the chapter when you are on the rig turn around and the collectable is in the left hand corner on a wall. The collectable is called "Grindlift Notice"
  • When you have to defend the rig you will be dropped off on the ground, immediately turn left and the collectable is to the left of the ammo crates. The collectable is called "Munitions Requisition Form"

Chapter 4

  • None

Chapter 5
- Roadblocks
  • At the very start of a chapter you have to kick down a door, when you are inside the building jump over the counter right in front of you and head up the stairs and the collectable is in the middle of the room on the floor. The collectable is called "Jacinto Sentinel Newspaper"
  • After chainsawing your way through a fence head down the street and then look up the hill where all the Nemacyst are, turn 180 degrees and the collectable is on the back wall. The collectable is called "Memorial Inscription"
  • After clearing out the gas station area that has a troika on the roof, head inside and the collectable is on the floor inside the back room. The collectable is called "Truck Driver's Note"
  • When you are moving through the dark tunnel full of tickers you will come to a section where you must head up  a small set of stairs to continue before you head up these stairs go into the small room just before the steps. The collectable is called "COG Tag - CSID: 595506-GK8C69A"

Act 2

  


Chapter 1
  • None

Chapter 2 - Indegionous Creatures
  • Just before the second Rockworm comes out of the wall look to your left and there is a small area of vines that you can chainsaw your way through, the collectable is just inside the small area where you chainsawed the vines. The collectable is called "Gears Journal"
  • The collectable is located where you fight a large bunch of locust and a reaver, there are two troika emplacements in the area. Look at the huge door towards the left hand side and walk along the small wall on the right hand side of it until you get to the collectable. It is a fair way down the wall and is to the right of an ammo crate. The collectable is called "Kantus Scroll"

Chapter 3 - Disturbing Revaltions

  • After you first encounter the new type of locust for the first time (Kantus) clear out the area and a door will open up, head through the door and turn to your right, the collectable is just next to an ammo crate. The collectable is called "Locust Emblem"

Chapter 4 - Sinking Feeling

  • This collectable is very easy to miss, it is next to an overturned car which is near an ammo crate. Very hard to describe where it is as it is so out in the open. The collectable is called "Ilima City Help wanted ad"
  • After the cut scene where you get ambushed in the building the collectable is next to a dead body on the wooden floor. The collectable is called "COG TAG - CSID: 085177-MJ3V5-PB"

Chapter 5 - Captivity
  • After freeing someone from a locust cage type thing, the road will split up one path is a dead end and is glowing blue, head down the dead end and the collectable is on the floor. The collectable is called "Stranded's Journal"

Chapter 6 - Intestinal Fortitude
  • At the very start of the chapter turn directly left and the collectable is right next to you. The collectable is called "Car Gold Magazine"
  • After you watch a cut scene involving Carmine about 20 yards ahead on the left you will see the collectable. The collectable is called "COG Tag: CSID: 838186-22AO3-SF"

Act 3

  


Chapter 1

  • None

Chapter 2 - Origins

  • At the very start of the chapter head up 2 flights of stairs and the collectable is in the small room on the right hand side before you enter the bigger room that is straight ahead of you. The collectable is between 2 desk type objects. The collectable is called "Interoffice Memo"
  • Once you hit the checkpoint and after killing a bunch of wretches you will come to a hallway if you look to your left you will see a security turret, turn right and head down the hallway that has monitors hanging from the ceiling. The collectable is just down this hallway, you will see a open door on your right, go through this doorway and head down the little corridor, kick down the door at the end of it and the collectable is inside the small room. The collectable is called "Memo"
  • After you kill all the wretches that swarm you outside, head into the second building and just after the first checkpoint in this building you will have to go and hit a security switch, head into the small room next to this switch and the collectable is right next to the flamethrower on the floor. The collectable is called "New Hope Medical File"

Chapter 3 - Rude Awakening
  • When you first head outside when the razorhail comes down Dom will suggest heading towards a train cart, ignore him for now and jump to your right into a small building, the collectable is in the back of this building. The collectable is called "Doctor's Journal"
  • After you open the 3 doors to protect yourself from the razorhail you will have another train cart to your left hand side, the collectable is located in the building opposite the train cart. The collectable is called "Captivity Marks"

Chapter 4
  • None

Chapter 5 - Displacement
  • Where there are a group of gunships shooting at you head up to the right and up a flight of stairs continue going up the stairs until you can't go any further, the collectable is on the floor next to a wall. The collectable is called "Stranded's Journal"

Act 4

  


Chapter 1 - Priorities

  • After going up the 3rd elevator you will have to kill a bunch of locust. Before you head on look to your left and there are a few locust terminals. The collectable is one of those terminals. The collectable is called "Locust Terminal"

Chapter 2 - Answers
  • Where Dom tells you to let the locust patrol pass. Let them pass and head to the back of the truck past the terminal and turn right, head straight on and the collectable is on the floor. The collectable is called "Prisoner's Journal"

Chapter 3 - Hornets' Nest
  • This is near the beginning of the chapter, head straight and then turn right through an arch way, keep following this path and the collectable is on the floor towards the end. The collectable is called "Locust Jailer Document"
  • Dom will mention something about being far enough in to activate the beacon you will hit a checkpoint and a gate in front of you will start to close, you cannot make it through this gate so just ignore it, before the gate there is a set of stairs heading up to the right, go just before these steps and then jump up them, the gate in front of you will start to close, roadie run and you should make it through the gate before it closes, the collectable is just inside the gate. The collectable is called "Human Finger Necklace". The following video will help to explain this further.

  





Chapter 4 - No Turning Back

  • After you cross in the cable car head up a spiral stair case, the collectable is at the top of this staircase and is the sun-dial type thing. The collectable is called "Locust Calendar"
  • After reuniting all members of delta, hit a switch to extend a wooden bridge, cross this bridge and the collectable is around the corner next to an ammo crate. The collectable is called "Locust Defense Plans"

Chapter 5 - The Best Laid Plans
  • Do not go onto the locust lift to get into the palace instead head straight past it and the collectable is a little way down at the foot of a small flight of steps. The collectable is called "Locust Invasion Map"
  • After you take the lift you will be made to split up, take the left hand upper route and run all the way round to the other side, kill the grinder and run past its dead body at the bottom of the stairs past the grinder you should find the collectable. The collectable is called "Trinity of Worms Artifact"

Chapter 6 - Royal Inquisition
  • After Cole shouts "Baby I'm Home" head to the back of the left hand wall, the collectable is by the pillar nearest to the wall. The collectable is called "Locust Tablets"

Act 5

  


Chapter 1

  • None

Chapter 2 - Desperate Stand

  • The collectable is where you need to defend the south platform, once you have defended it head towards the next platform and you will see an ammo box on your left, head down the stairs next to the ammo crate, the collectable is right next to another ammo crate down those stairs. The collectable is called "Cog Recon Report"
  • After defending the com-sat tower Hoffman will open up a gate, head down the stairs and keep going right until you see a Mulcher on your right hand side, directly opposite the mulcher is a set of stairs, head down the stairs and the collectable is next to an ammo box. The collectable is called "COG Tag CSID: 911706-DZUHO-JN"

Chapter 3 - Free Parking
  • As soon as you clear out the area full of broken down cars walk past all the broken cars and you can turn left or right, turn right and just behind the little stone block in a bunch of leaves is the collectable. The collectable is called "Jacinto Sentinel Newspaper"

Chapter 4 - Tenuous Footing
  • After you meet back up with Dom you head through a hole in a wall and as soon as you go through the hole you will hit a checkpoint, turn imediately around and to the right of the hole you just came through is another hole, head through that hole and you will find the collectable. The collectable is called "COG Tag CSID: 444526-MI2K9-3B"
  • After the room you're in falls down, clear out the bunch of locust infront of you and the collectable is in the very right hand corner of the area ahead. The collectable is called "Stranded's Journal"
