Introduction

In Fallout 3, the Super Mutant Behemoths are by far the toughest enemies in the game. They run amazingly fast for their size and really pack a punch, whether it's with their fists or with their fire hydrant weapons. Fortunately, each Behemoth has a TON of stuff to loot from their bodies once you take them down, which is why I made this guide to help you defeat each and every one of them to not only net yourself a bunch of good stuff, but also an achievement.

General Tips

Use The Dart Gun:
The Dart Gun is ideal for taking out any fast moving foe. If you can shoot the Behemoth in the leg with a dart, you can slow him down enough to finish him off with a larger weapon without getting hit in the face.

Try To Get To Higher Ground:
The Behemoth at Evergreen Mills makes best use of this, as there are multiple places to get high up. If you can get above the Behemoth in some way, he is much easier to take out because he can't hit you.

Have A Big Gun With You:
Don't try taking out a Behemoth with a 10mm. It won't happen. The Fat Man is the ideal Behemoth weapon, but the Mini-Nukes are scarce. Anything in the Big Guns section can work against a Behemoth, although I doubt a Flamer would be very effective.

Bring Stimpaks:
Stimpaks are your friend in Fallout 3. Take them with you when fighting off a Behemoth, because they will keep you alive and fix you up if you get crippled.

Be Smart When Taking Followers To A Behemoth Fight:
Logically, one would think that bringing a follower along would be a wise thing to do. That's not always the case. Dogmeat will get torn apart, and human followers don't stand much of a chance. The best follower to bring would be Fawkes (that's true for everything situation though, right?). Whenever I brought Fawkes to a Behemoth fight, the Behemoth went after him every time and payed no attention to me at all. Fawkes was mauled, but lost a very small amount of health and I was able to kill the monster easily. If you don't want to risk having a follower get killed, consider leaving them behind.

GNR Studios

You can't miss this one when you do the Galaxy News Radio. Assuming that you didn't skip this quest by going to Rivet City, the Brotherhood Soldiers will help you fight. When you do get to the Behemoth, he'll come crashing through. Grab the Fat Man off the dead guy on the fountain and give him two quick nukes to take him down. Consider positioning yourself in the nearby buildings that you use to get into the courtyard. These will keep you safe from the swinging fire hydrant.

Evergreen Mills

This battle can be somewhat easy assuming that your console does not get affected by a bug. Evergreen Mills is infested with Raiders, and the bug is that the Behemoth will come out early and actually fight with the Raiders, making the battle much harder. You can either let him out early and have the Raiders do some damage to him, or go at it solo. Consider saving before entering the Mill, as dying could be a possibility if you are not careful. Another bug is that Dogmeat will attract the Behemoth, meaning that if he sees Dogmeat (no matter how far away you are) he could come running out. Anyway, the actual Behemoth is inside the giant electrical cage in the middle of this area. If the Behemoth sees you, he'll come running out, but this only seems to happen if the nearby generator is destroyed in the firefight. The good news is that he is unarmed. The bad news is that the Mill is small, limiting the amount of space to move around. The best place to be in this battle is on top of one of the buildings. This way, he can't get you and will run around like a chicken without a head.

Capitol Building

This Behemoth is a fun one. He's inside the Capitol Building in the main dome. You'll know when you get there, as there is a massive battle going on inside against the Behemoth and the poor Talon Company Mercs, as well as some Super Mutants. There are several ways you can do this part. You can run in guns blazing, risking your life for experience points. You can sit back and wait while the Mercs kill him (which hardly ever happens). Or you could wait until he has low health and shoot him a few times. Whatever you do, don't get spotted by the Fat Man wielding Merc, who always seems to die right near the entrance. If he sees you, he will launch nukes at you, which is bad. Very bad.

Takoma Park

You should see this Behemoth in the distance in Takoma Park. To make the fight easier, get on top of the truck next to the water tower with the dead Merc and press the button. An artillery strike will launch and land on the Behemoth. The artillery is unlimited, but is horribly inaccurate, so you are better off hitting him with it a few times and going in to finish the kill.

Capitol Wasteland

This Behemoth can be tricky to find, as he has no special landmark in which to hide in. Instead, head west from Jury Street Metro Station until you reach some train cars and a few Super Mutants. Another way to get their is to simply follow the train tracks out of Evergreen Mills. Inside one of the train cars is a shopping cart. Open it up and take the teddy bear. Now look behind you and open fire, as the Behemoth will be charging at you at this point. The teddy bear activates him. Take out his legs with a dart gun so that you can easily shoot him up while he limps towards you. Hiding in the train car is not the best place to hide, but will allow you to get off a few shots without being attacked. You can also try hiding on the ledge overlooking the cars if you want. According to the Fallout Wiki, another way to get the Behemoth to spawn is to go to that ledge and WAIT for 12 hours. The Behemoth should spawn, and a few Enclave soldiers might spawn as well. If they do, they will fight with you against the Behemoth, but will turn hostile once it's dead.

Still Stuck?

If you are somehow still unable to find one or more of the Behemoths listed, here's a video that might prove useful:
