The video from Total Biscuit shows a great play through of the Mesmer class.

#4 Posted by WinterSnowblind (7617 posts) -

Curse Network are uploading a pretty large amount of videos

They've got the character creation explored in depth (no Sylvari or Asura in the demo), the achievement system, the starting areas, a demonstration of the emotes and more PVP stuff coming.

The Mesmer looks fantastic. Completely unique class mechanic with the focus on those mirror images. Awesome.

There was(is) a class in City of Heroes which is actually quite similar as well as the Psionicist from Allods Online.

The scale is just incredible. That enormous city you see in a lot of the videos (it might be divinity's reach?) is breathtaking, no hyperbole, it looks amazing. And whenever you see anyone inside the city itself that scale is not lost. They definitely made the right choice not having flying mounts. It makes the game even more massive.

The Massively Beta Montage left my mouth agape with with wondrous stupor. What a stunner! What a beauty!

@Seppli: just finished watching it before you posted. And now the GW2 theme is stuck in my head again for the umpteenth time. Which is not a bad place to be, I think it's happened with every Jeremy Soule theme for a game ever.

#11 Posted by WinterSnowblind (7617 posts) -

The guild features sound pretty amazing. This is literally the first time I've been excited to play in a guild/group for any MMORPG.

There seems to be a real sense of teamwork and co-operation here, unlike other MMO's where you're constantly competing with everyone over something.

Looks like dungeons will have associated gear / armor sets. Ascalon catacombs has ghastly weapons and Ascalonian armor sets
#13 Edited by Seppli (10251 posts) -

Gamebreaker.tv has an vid-cast on the beta. Can't embed it. Looking forward to coming around to it, hearing some feedback. From Gannon especially, since he's been the most critical of the bunch.

Edit : Oh - it ain't a Guild Cast discussion type affair. Mike B. talks about the Beta Event solo.

#14 Edited by Maystack (906 posts) -

Now that more info is out about Guilds we can start work on Lincoln Force.

Oh wow, weapons and armour that have the guild emblem on? Bitchin'.

#15 Posted by Dark_Lord_Spam (3340 posts) -
@Maystack: I feel that I should let everyone know I'm just going to blow all of the guild's influence on the booze vendor.
#16 Posted by Maystack (906 posts) -

@Dark_Lord_Spam: Buy drinks for a week, get 10,000 influence, spend influence on more drinks, repeat. Foolproof.

IGN just added their write-up. I really liked the bit about how that one dynamic event worked out. The Mesmer video actually shows just what he describes in the article. I'm so looking forward to exploring the world of Guild Wars 2 and stumbling over content left and right. Finally a way to break that trend of linear corridor MMO worlds funneling players down a singular quest path. The antidote to the linear themepark MMO experience - without losing any of their playability. Improving on it even, it seems like.

#18 Edited by Seppli (10251 posts) -

Holy cow. IGN's World vs World video has some actual largescale siege combat in it. This might actually work.  That map segment he's showing in there is only 1/4th of the entire World vs World battleground and that's just one of the smaller keeps they're fighting over. The potential for multi-frontline assaults is nigh endless. Way awesome.

Edit: Gamespot has a 'Mini-Podcast' on the Press Beta. Really looking forward to hearing people talk about it. Hearing imrpessions is more valuable at this point, than reading up on facts.

Nitpick edit: the leveling limit was actually level 30.

I kind of wish he had skirted around the green zerg-rush and tried to cap a resource camp. There was no way he could have taken that mob head-on.

That guild screen looks so complex. It's making me rethink wanting to be a guild leader, although I'm sure I could get the hang of it eventually.

Here is the glut of links from the Guild Wars 2 subreddit found here:

Hi. I was thinking it will be usefull to make one thread on all news from the Closed Press Beta, so all people can paste some interesting videos, that they find here.
Edit 1: I see, you like it. I will try to post all i find, so quickly as i can. Twitter opened. All games-sites opened. Lets go :)
Edit 2: Okay, looks like the first wave of videos and reviews is over. Waiting for the next one :D
Edit 3: My fingers are bleeding. Going to take a rest a bit and see some videos by myself :)
Edit 4: TotalBiscuit tweet - "The chances are there won't be any more GW2 videos today so there's little point wasting your time camping out for it" - https://twitter.com/#!/Totalbiscuit/status/171691399744458752 - So i think i going to sleep now.

Anet duder explain the queueing system in GW2:

Let me explain what an overflow server is and what it does. It is a technology we also use as our version of a queuing system. When a map or a world you want to log into is at capacity limit, the game will ask you if you want to play on an overflow server - so you can actually play while you are in a queue. Once space opens on your world, the game will ask you if you want to join your friends on your world. And you keep all the progress you made while you were playing on the overflow server.

souce: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/press-closed-beta-test-t27964.html?p=1128627#post1128627

I gotta say, this is fantastic, this is going to be a standard feature in all future MMOs with queues.

#28 Edited by Dark_Lord_Spam (3340 posts) -

I think we all realize this thread is missing the most severely important footage available... emotes.

The subtle little animations they put in these are simply fucking superb. My favorite is the tear-wipe at the end of the female human's laugh. It's just spot-on.

Also, who wants to bet they're holding on to the dances until release?
#29 Posted by Maystack (906 posts) -

@Dark_Lord_Spam: I lol'd at the dude running around in the back of the human female one.

Genius, like so many other things they're doing. That's leadership in the making. I hope it translates into market leadership too.

#31 Posted by Subjugation (4722 posts) -

@Dark_Lord_Spam: That's just fantastic. I thought the same thing when I saw that emote. The fine details in the facial animation, like the eyebrows moving and the eyes shifting, have really impressed me. I didn't expect this much detail. It's too bad they didn't have access to the Sylvari and Asura. I'm particularly eager to see the Asura emotes because they seem like a race the devs would have fun with.

GW2 might create the new standard for MMOs simply amazing.  So much great videos and blogs to look over.  Great job gathering stuff, like always.

I love that good, old-fashioned ArenaNet brand of "what, you thought we couldn't solve this problem that no one else could?"
#34 Posted by shinboy630 (1146 posts) -

The game is obviously looking awesome, but I am a little worried that, from what I have seen at least, the game might just be "Mash 1: The Game" at times. But who knows, maybe it was just the people I was watching.

#35 Posted by Subjugation (4722 posts) -

@shinboy630: Well it certainly seems like your first ability slot usually contains your bread and butter attack. I'm not sure how else they could handle that since most of the other abilities have cooldowns. You kind of need something to fill the gap. I would suggest that you probably could "mash 1" but it would result in you being a poor player. I'm pretty sure I understand where you're coming from though. Having a "primary nuke" has been a staple of MMOs for a while, and it looks like it remains here.

'1' is going to be the spam/autoattack skill of every (mainhand-) weapon. Pretty sure it's a toggle.

just got done watching this little series, highly entertaining

In-depth walkthrough the Ascalonian Catacombs (lvl 30 5man dungeon). I'm really curious to hear more about how group play works without dedicated tanks and healers. So far, I hear most people are surprised how well it works and how much more dynamic encounters become. Time to listen and look at this video.

#39 Posted by selfconfessedcynic (2562 posts) -

Man... I not sure if I want to watch all of these videos - going dark of ME3 has been pretty beneficial. Then again, I'll watch anything with a mesmer in it.

I just hope we still have sync dancing!

I definitely haven't been watching too many of the videos. I've seen some of the PVP, class demonstrations, character creation, etc. But I don't need to see "tours" of the major cities or any of the story missions, so I'm trying to avoid those.

I do love that the bosses in the Ascalon Catacombs are the skill trainers from GW1's presearing! :D

#41 Edited by Seppli (10251 posts) -

@selfconfessedcynic: @WinterSnowblind:

Thought the same thing when watching one of them guided city tours through the Charr capital. I think it's time to tune out and just let it hit me, when I get to play it for myself. I think it's time to go dark 'til shit gets real - like Preview Weekend real. Maybe even skip that in favor of a wholly fresh release experience.

I'm pretty proud of myself for staying away from ME3 coverage. Though recently I made the mistake of reading a screenshot caption in a magazine, which promtely gave away details about what's going to happen after the opening we've played in the demo. Sons of a bitch.

Oh wow, didn't know he was married. Never heard anything from her, she has a very tolerable voice, I actually enjoyed listening to her talk about the Mesmer.

#43 Posted by WinterSnowblind (7617 posts) -

@ccampb89: Yeah, she sounded a bit too nervous and awkward in places, but that's to be expected. I'd have loved to see more indepth look at the classes and skills like this, it's a shame she only did it for the Mesmer.

#44 Posted by kindgineer (2738 posts) -

I agree, I have been wishing TB (and now apparently his wife) would cover Guild Wars 2 and TERA more than he/they have. To me, at least what they've covered, it seems that if Guild Wars 2 and TERA melded together (Gameplay+Questing) that we would have a Titan of a game.

If it's a toggle that would make it so much better. I understand that it's your basic/spamable attack, which is fine, I just think that constantly mashing the 1 key would get boring or tiring.

In the Mesmer gameplay video on IGN, I believe the dude said something about '1' skills being auto-attacks and toggles. Though IGN editors are usually somewhat inaccurate in their language and information, so I'd take that with a grain of salt.

#49 Posted by Benny (1953 posts) -

@Seppli: In the video you can see a little, I guess loop border around it (represented by arrows flowing round the '1' skill clockwise) I believe that indicates it is an auto-attack. I've looked at videos for warrior, ranger etc and it seems the same across professions.

Also, the WvWvW map is friggin enormous.
