Guild Wars 2 Year-End Development Update [ArenaNet]

#1 Edited by Dark_Lord_Spam (3254 posts) -

Thought A-Net would drop info on their final profession and closed beta, then feel content to kick back for the rest of the year? CLEARLY YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW INSANE THESE PEOPLE ARE! Here, we have updates on achievement systems, thief mechanics, and animation blending. Enjoy your holidays, folks!

...and may inverted devil-asura stalk you in your nightmares.

hot damn. Just made the mistake of looking through some info on the new Professions and the Thief and Engineer both sound amazing. are they limiting which races can do what? seeing one of the Plant people as an engineer seems.....odd.

There are no race/profession limitations. ArenaNet has said from the beginning that lore serves gameplay and not vice-versa.

High hopes for this game

I really want to see the gameplay for myself. So much of it sounds so good.

Measured by how much I enjoy SW:TOR, which doesn't really improve on core mechanics, but rather improves everything surrounding core gameplay - I can't wait to play a game which does try to improve on actual gameplay. Guild Wars 2 could be the most amazing thing to happen to MMO gaming to date. The end of static worlds. The perfect blend of Action RPG and MMORPG combat mechanics. Purposeful and true largescale PvP in custom tailored dynamic environments (Server vs Server vs Server for a total of like 600 players or something). And last, but certainly not least - to discredit all the subscription based MMOs out there. AAA MMORPGs can be sold like regular games and be good business.

Thief is looking better with every single update.

To be fair, I was already sold on creating a Thief after seeing one in the hands of a skilled player for once. (skip to 2:12 for the good stuff)

When the game is out for a few weeks, and people have the mechanics down, the PvP is going to be completely nuts.

Can't wait!

@Buckfitches:

Love the 'interactive foiliage' in that video. Reacting to players and projectiles passing through it. So awesome.

Now there's the difference between great taste and not-so-great taste. Fewer, but higher fidelity foiliage with some interactivity versus overly dense foiliage carpets visibly sprouting from the ground as it draws in (as in SW:TOR). It's the little touches like this one, which show me Guild Wars 2 is the real deal.

No offense to Bioware, but whatever technical artdirector did let the foiliage pass the way it is in the game... that person should overthink his professional expertise.

I'm still waiting for some mesmer footage to leak from this closed beta. I'm ravenous.
