So from 10th April you can pre purchase Guild Wars 2. Whatever version you get lets you access all the beta events, and have early access to the full release. I'm tempted to get the collector's edition because it's one of the only games that I'd want an art book and soundtrack. £130 is a bit pricy though.

Gotta be the collector's edition for me. Guild Wars 1 is probably tied for WoW with the most time ever spent into a single game and I've been psyched about this game for years.

A three day head start? Access to all beta events? I'm there cool-baby!.... Pity I'm broke but the collector's edition looks nice.

Minimum specs are out but no recommended specs though. Hmm...

I'm pretty disappointed with this actually. The CE doesn't really come with anything that appeals to me, and £130 is just way too high. The conversion rate there is ridiculous.

The in-game bonus items are nothing special either, they're mostly temporary boosts. No unique visual effects, no extra character slots or something lasting? The minipet and skill might be nice, but considering the DD version is going to cost at least £10 more than the regular edition, I think I'll go with the standard edition and spend the extra money on more character slots.

Edit: Geez, the basic game is £50 and the DD is £65. I'll definitely be sticking with the regular edition.

At first £130 seemed steep. Then I remembered: No. Subscription. Fees. Considering I'll likely be playing this for the next 5-10 years, that's a bloody bargain. Besides, more money going to ArenaNet is a good thing.

@WinterSnowblind: Going to have to agree with that.  I never buy collectors editions because whenever I get them the things just end up collecting dust.  Only collectors edition I don't regret buying is the Halo: Reach one and that is because Halo holds a special place in my heart.

Perhaps I would be more intrigued if there was more character slots or some type of in game benefit.  The HoM stuff is good enough for me.

EDIT: this also means the beta events will be probably starting on the 14th, so that is right around my finals.  First weekend is a write off for me :(

I think it's better that the special editions are a bit irrelevant rather than having exclusive content or DLC, as so many games these days do.

I hate to say it but a lot of those bonuses don't do anything for me. I'll probably stick with the standard edition and just drop money on character slots/cash shop stuff.

@c0l0nelp0c0rn1: I don't think they have announced that information yet, but ,if you are able, I would recommend canceling your pre-order from Amazon and pre-purchasing directly from Arena-Net. If you buy directly from them, you will be able to play the game three days early as opposed to one day early from other retailers.

@Benny: it's a miniature, an in-game pet-like thing that follows you around. Doesn't do anything and isn't affected by anything, think of it as a bragging right in the case of the DD/CE editions.

@RhombusOfTerror: Ohhhh, thanks. Guess they're not calling them 'Pets' in GW2.

After mousing over the descriptions it's clear that the collectors stuff that benefits you in any way is for a very limited time only and wont give you any long term advantages over other players. Very cool way of dealing with premium stuff.

edit: At least it seems that way, I'm assuming the elite skill isn't exclusive.

Hmm - along with others, I'd have very much preferred an edition with just the soundtrack and game.

In any case, if I get a new job by april 10th I'll buy the CE - otherwise, it's regular for me.

Just the regular edition for me. None of those things seem very appealing, save for the behind the scenes book and the soundtrack. But I sure don't want a statue and don't care for those in-game items.

Getting in to all of the beta stuff sounds great though.

Apparently the CE is $200 here in Australia (anecdotal, as whenever I go to the site it shows me the price in Pounds), whereas it's $150 USD. Our dollar is currently stronger than the USD. A conversion from 130 pounds works out cheaper by around $7 if the $200 price tag is true.

Disappointed in the Collector's Edition. Would've like an awesome in-game special effect emote (like Guild Wars: Prophecies CE) and a Behind-the-Scenes DVD. So, I'll just buy standard.

I feel this to some degree - especially with how perishable the in-game rewards are here. But if my Nightfall CE taught me anything, it's that any collection of concept art from ArenaNet is well worth it. The prints in this package are too good to pass up. Plus, you know, I already promised myself I'd be getting the GW2 CE to support the business model and generally intelligent practices that the company continues to push.

just watched the stream with Jon Peters and he showed the size of the Rytlok statue... The thing is big, about 2 1/4 iphones tall I would estimate (I say this b/c he put one iphone next to it as a measure).

It's the same in Canada, and we share a border with them. Thankfully, game prices have evened out somewhat in recent years, but everything else remains significantly more expensive here.

I will happily pay the extra $10 over the standard digital version of a PC game if it means I get all this content without paying a monthly fee.
