Cool, but it won't be a race I'll make in the retail game.

I wonder if that rumor of a redesign had any weight to it...

As they are, I wouldn't make a male Sylvari - look hellah lame. I was hoping the males would look a little like Kurzick Juggernauts - but nope, they just look like green emos.

@selfconfessedcynic: There's definitely been a redesign. They've been holding on to it for months now and the lore week will almost certainly be the unveiling.

Are they the grassy dudes?

According to Kristin Perry in the Comicon panel, the redesign of the Slyvari will be a compromise between the plant or leafy style and more elf/fey faerie. Personally I am excited by this as the current Slyvari design just screams emogoth to me. Anet is trying to distinguish this race from the typical nature loving dryad or elf race so it will be quite intriguing to see what they will come up with.

It's true. They've confired it at the SDCC panel. Apparently they're shooting for a proper mix between tree-creature (ent) and fae-like elf. I'm very curious. Looking forward to the reveal.

Can they turn into bears?
No?
Then they can fuck off.

Yeah - just watched the panel on gamespot myself. Sounds interesting - similar to the problem Jackson had with designing the Ents in LOTR. Some of his designs looked more like humans, others looked like trees. He ended up going for the latter, but having seen some of the concepts for the former on the extended ed. DVDs, I'd be pumped if we end up with something that looks even half as good as those.

I really like the lore behind them - the closeness to nature, The Dream, the youngess of the race (oldest sylvari alive is only 25), the Ventari backstory, etc. I would be glad to make one, but at the moment, they are hella far down my list. Here's hopin.

The Norn (another playable race) can. There is also an armored polar bear race called the Kodan who live on giant seafaring iceberg ships. I don't know about you but I am sold immediately the first time I saw them.

I cannot wait for when they make asura playable.  That is all I care about now.
