I'll try to say this quick, pretty much I bought Guitar Hero 5 Sep 16th at Game Crazy, immediately coming home and doing what I needed to do so I could send in the stuff to get Guitar Hero: Van Halen. After noticing that the status hadn't changed I started emailing them. I've now sent them the conformation email I got after signing up, and the receipt and still they reply saying that their records indicate that I didn't buy GH5 between Sep 1 and Oct 1. I really feel like I've been screwed.
Guitar Hero 5
Game » consists of 13 releases. Released Sep 01, 2009
The fifth game in the core Guitar Hero franchise, and the third in the series from Activision and Neversoft. Though the game goes by the Guitar Hero moniker, it features full-band gameplay like its predecessor, Guitar Hero World Tour.
Activision screwed me.

I like the game, but I got bored of it really quickly. It's Guitar Hero Metallica with Van Halen songs.
No liveliness in the performances of the characters, feels like it was built with Guitar Hero III engine, the only fun part is the guitar riffs, no Michael Anthony or Sammy Hagar, failure to recognize ALL of their career (whether you like Hagar or not, and there were even a couple of good songs with Cheron like "Ballot or a Bullet?"), and bonus songs brought to you by bands that don't belong in a game where the main feature is a band that is NOTHING like their music." @jakob187: Outside of the song selection, what big major difference is there? I like Metallica too, but since I played that one to death, that's probably why I got bored of Van Halen fairly quickly. "
All in all, this game is about four games too late. It felt a lot like GH Aerosmith...except THAT one had bonus songs that actually made sense...and an excuse for having low-grade tech behind it. At least the performances were convincing.
MEANWHILE...Metallica was through and through a METALLICA experience, including the bonus songs. If anything, I just try to forget that World Tour existed (minus a handful of songs) and consider GH Metallica to be the true successor to Guitar Hero III.

" >buying activision product >thinking he won't get screwed up WHAT IN THE HELL'S NAME WERE YOU THINKING. "Not buying Guitar Hero 5 would be a damn shame for anybody, as that game is an incredible step up. The only issue I honestly have with it is that their Character Manipulation System really needs some tweaking, both to dull down the shittiness of a few performances (Axel Steel jumping around like a girl and singing "Ex-Girlfriend" by No Doubt is disturbing as fuck) and to offer more genuine performances for the songs included. Even then, that's a very minor complaint.
