As someone who's got this stupid obsession with Van Halen (thanks, dad), I always like hearing the Bombcast guys talk about them. They were a little shaky on the details though, so here's the deal.
The original band line-up is back together, except that Eddie is letting his 17 year old son play Bass, and he's pretty good. They did a 2007-2008 North American tour, which I was lucky enough to see. Eddie is not a skeleton anymore, in fact, the band is relatively sober, and in shape. They're taking a short break, while Wolfgang Van Halen graduates high school, and should be touring again this summer, WITH David Lee Roth. A new album is also planned.
As for the bands original Bass player Mike Anthony, and second lead singer Sammy Hagar, they have teamed up with Joe Satriani and Chad Smith (of the Red Hot Chili Peppers), in a new band called Chicken Foot, which is releasing a 2009 album.
I was listening to last weeks Bombcast again on the way back from college today. When they got to the topic of Guitar Hero, and Jeff wanted to know whether Roth was on board, Ryan asked "Do you really think he would turn down the money?"
The 2007-2008 tour with Roth was the highest grossing in the band's history, raking in almost 93 million dollars.
So hopefully, if this game does happen, the bands involvement will center around making a quality game, rather than just making the band money. Only time will tell.
It's a type of domino game. If you've never played it, you are missing out...
...on vast Southern mental retardation.
The band, however, sounds pretty good. I don't like that Hagar is touting it as "the best thing since Led Zeppelin"...but it sounds good so far...in the 5 second clip that they have around on the internet.

Yeah, they've actually got three songs up on the site now, it still sounds pretty good.

"...Chicken Foot?"
Ha, I finally get why they called it Chicken Foot. They've got this logo. It looks like a peace sign kind of... But it also looks like a talon. Mystery solved.
