Though most of the juicy details already came out via Nintendo Power, it's now totally official: Guitar Hero 6 is coming--and it's in the form of Neversoft's Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. According to the press release blasted this morning, Warriors of Rock will boast a few fresh features that might separate it from the rest of the Guitar Hero herd, namely, the "all-new, story-driven Quest Mode," its Quick Play+ feature, and its redesigned "rock-inspired" guitar. The game will feature, as always, a tracklist of guitar-driven songs (more on that later), drop-in and out party play, and the usual set of instruments: drums, bass, microphone, and guitar.

Former KISS bassist and all-around disgusting dude, Gene Simmons, will be the narrator of the game's Quest Mode which has players stopping a mystical brute named "The Beast" from destroying rock and roll. The mode will have realistic venues, like the CBGB, but it will also have cartoon-inspired fantasy settings like "molten fields of lava." Quest Mode also has its own original song written by Megadeth's Dave Mustaine called "Sudden Death."

Quick Play+, the other new feature, is a single and cooperative set of challenges that has the potential to provide "literally hundreds of hours of replayability," according to the press release. In a nutshell, it's a series of 13 challenges that that will be supported in all the songs on the disc, as well as "most" DLC songs from Guitar Hero World Tour and beyond. The names and details of all the challenges weren't revealed today, however, three of the thirteen were announced: Band Streak, High Score, Power Challenge. The latter challenge, as explained, is a "get the highest score" deal with the twist of being able to use unlockable "warrior powers."

In addition to all of that information, Activision busted out a partial track listing for Warriors of Rock which includes artists KISS, The Cure, Rammstein, and Muse. Here's that.

  • AFI -- “Dancing Through Sunday”
  • Avenged Sevenfold -- “Bat Country”
  • Black Sabbath -- “Children Of The Grave”
  • Buzzcocks -- “What Do I Get?”
  • Children Of Bodom -- “If You Want Peace...Prepare For War”
  • The Cure -- “Fascination Street”
  • Def Leppard -- “Pour Some Sugar On Me (Live)”
  • Dethklok -- “Bloodlines”
  • DragonForce -- “Fury of the Storm”
  • Drowning Pool -- “Bodies”
  • Foo Fighters -- “No Way Back”
  • Foreigner -- “Feels Like The First Time”
  • Jane’s Addiction -- “Been Caught Stealing”
  • KISS -- “Love Gun”
  • Megadeth -- “Sudden Death”

  • The Rolling Stones -- “Stray Cat Blues”

If you're still wondering about the guitar, so am I. No assets for it were released, but it's described as a "show-stopper" by Activision. I wonder if it can accidentally eat bats...

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is slated for release on the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii.

Activision may have not achieved at getting back Brutal Legend but that doesn't mean they won't be releasing their own version of it. I mean really? What an embarrassing rip-off.

#7 Posted by jschmoe (142 posts) -

Sabbath, Bodom, Megadeth, Slayer and Bohemian Rhapsody?  This might be the first Guitar Hero game I pick up since 3.  I'll wait to see the full track list, though.

#8 Posted by Jesus (1116 posts) -

That's a fail if I ever saw one.

#9 Posted by PLWolf (922 posts) -

Awesome! Can't wait to play it.

#10 Posted by MajorToms (366 posts) -

I see them making guitar hero till the end of time.
Why not spice it up and rip off other IPs like Brutal Legend? Oh shit they totally are!?

Maybe like an actual Guitar Hero story though, not literally ripping off the medi-evil scene. Like make a character, and progress by buying music lessons (give you more instruments to work with in the create music mode) or music books to unlock more songs?

Instead of straight up giving us more songs to play, give us a choice as to what we want to play next. Having far more songs than are required to play through the story so we can miss the unfavorable tracks instead of making us play through all sorts of garbage to get to some good tracks would be stellar additions.

I thought they weren't making as many guitar heros lol

#12 Posted by MetalGearSunny (6988 posts) -

Not buying the concept.

No

Just what I always wanted...more Guitar Hero.

#15 Posted by lukeissxc (245 posts) -

You're supposed to stop the beast from destroying rock but then you put My Chemical Romance in your game.....

"former" KISS bassist? Since when?

#18 Posted by fuzzy510 (206 posts) -

If it hasn't already done so, I think this game is when we look back on the Guitar Hero franchise as when it jumped the shark.

#19 Posted by Thoseposers (782 posts) -

Still don't know why anyone would ever want to play silversun pickups on a guitar hero

#20 Posted by Nixtwix (43 posts) -

ANY WAY THE WIND BLOOOWS

#21 Posted by mattysen (822 posts) -

Whooptie-fucking-doo, more Guitar Hero full retail games when all of these songs are probably already on RockBand Store

#22 Posted by Aitee (24 posts) -

Yeap.

brutal legend much?

#25 Posted by spiceninja (3056 posts) -

Way too much metal for my liking. There are only two songs in that list that I'm actually interested in playing.

Stop.

Please. Stop.

#27 Posted by shadowthrone (57 posts) -

50 bucks would go a long way in the Rockband store song library...

#28 Posted by Djeffers03 (2545 posts) -

Huzzah for metal... Which I don't like.

#29 Posted by Hannibal (862 posts) -

Great song selection. Too bad I'm done with GH. I hope Slayer and Dethklok put up music for Rock Band 3

#30 Edited by Ben_H (3335 posts) -

Other than the Queen song, they seem to have selected the less good songs for some of the bands.  I mean they had to pick a crappy Bodom song off "Are You Dead Yet?" instead of a song off one of their earlier albums that have actual variety to them instead of boring drop C riffs and half singing that "If You Want Peace..." has.  Even something of Hate Crew Deathroll would be better.

Bloodlines, Bohemian Raphsody, Children of the Grave, and Uprising and I'm still not excited about another Guitar Hero.

Gene Simmons alone practically kills it for me.  That guy is revolting, and I don't much want to support anything he might make money on.  Add this ridiculous Brutal Legend rip-off of a story, mix in Neversoft's usual crass aesthetic, and I'll pass.  I may rent it to check out their version of CBGB and try out the two or three songs on that list that interest me, but that's it.

And who wants to put money down that with harmonies and keyboards added to Rock Band 3, Bohemian Rhapsody turns up in that game in a much more robust form?  Heck, that would make a killer "debut tune" for the game at E3.

#34 Posted by RedFive (140 posts) -

Megadeth, dude.

#35 Posted by ivaj (17 posts) -

so its Brutal Legend?

#36 Posted by Red (5994 posts) -

A Rock inspired guitar?

Only thing that excites me from that list is Bohemian Rhapsody, but it'll be in Rock Band soon enough.

#37 Posted by Dethfish (3638 posts) -

I thought I was done with Guitar Hero, I haven't bought one since the Metallica one, but I'm kind of interested in this now. I might come to my senses before it's released though.

#38 Posted by ImperiousRix (2963 posts) -

For some reason, I think this is a better direction for Guitar Hero to go.  They obviously can't beat Rock Band straight up, so they should switch up the gameplan.
I'll be keeping my eye on this.

#39 Posted by b33 (413 posts) -

another? srsly?

#40 Posted by Big_D (169 posts) -

I love how their still releasing songs on disc that RB has had out on disc or download forever.

#41 Posted by Spike94 (735 posts) -

Dude. I'm actually kinda excited. Fury of the Storm?! Woo! But will I buy? We'll see. I am probably one of the few who aren't totally finished with Guitar Hero, no? I still see hope.
#42 Posted by kalmis (1558 posts) -

Bohemian Rhapsody \m/

#43 Posted by Xeiphyer (5601 posts) -

Megadeth sucks.

Also, Warrior Powers huh? That could be cool if it turned into some sort of rhythm-puzzle game, like puzzle quest did with rpg.

But we know they aren't that smart.

Ehhhhhhhh.

ΖΖ Top   -- “Sharp Dressed Man (Live)”

...Maybe.

#45 Posted by Metal_Mills (2986 posts) -

No Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dio, Overkill, Sodom, but lots of shit false metal. Nice...ugh.

#46 Posted by Cube (4366 posts) -

Pretty disappointing to see people still buy this crap.

#47 Posted by Distrato (66 posts) -
Queen -- “Bohemian Rhapsody”

GOD DAMN IT!!
#48 Edited by paulunga (1971 posts) -

On one hand, Fascination Street and (in an ironic, playing-it-once-and-never-again sort of way) Bodies. On the other, none of the added features seem interesting and we really don't need another rhythm game.

Dude, that's not even the first time that song was in a Guitar Hero game. I think it was in GH 1 or 2.

You mean NOT YET!

Personally, I like the tracklist so far.  Yeah, there's stuff like The Cure that makes me scratch my head, but hey, whatever.  It's not Kings of Leon, and THAT is what's important.

Also, "Children of the Grave"!!!!!!!!!!!!  Master of Reality is the album that got me into heavy metal!  FUCKING...SOLD!!!

And of course, more Megadeth is ALWAYS welcome.  The song is original and only available on Warriors of Rock, which is even SWEETER!!!  Given how goddamn incredible Endgame was as an album, I can only IMAGINE!!!
#50 Posted by bjorno (1412 posts) -

only about 3/4 of those songs were complete garbage, getting better!
