Guitar Hero: Queen Coming in 2011?

Posted by BradNicholson (812 posts) -

Because the world needs more band-focused Guitar Hero games, Activision is set to deliver--at least, we believe it's poised to rock us with another band-oriented romp, in light of recent comments from a Queen shredder.

In an interview with Swedish news site DN.se, Queen lead guitarist Brian May let it be widely known that a Guitar Hero: Queen type of game is in the works and will apparently hit at some point in 2011. According to MTV Multiplayer, the Swedish writer who nabbed the response seemed to already know that this game was happening, so the question was rather pointed, but May didn't deny it was fact.

Brian May being Brian May

Kotaku readers with Swedish translation skills gave the publication a different take on the interview, believing that May was the one who said the game was coming in 2011 and will apparently feature a way for us to experience a Queen concert firsthand.

The guys in Queen don't have a stick up their butts about music games, making this sort of rumor much more believable. The band had its own SingStar title last year and several of its songs, including "We Are The Champions," "Killer Queen," "Under Pressure," and "Stone Cold Crazy," have already been featured across previous Guitar Hero titles. Of course, this is a translated interview, so keep that in mind before you bother with calling your mom about this story.

Queen Hero?

hurrah. Shame I'm not the biggest fan of queen.

Brian May is a boss. He's also an astrophysicist. Nevertheless I don't want a Queen game.

#5 Posted by BestUsernameEver (4825 posts) -

ehhh, I hate music games in general now, only because of the pure saturation of the genre made me sick of playing it.

#6 Posted by Grimi (113 posts) -

God I hope not, Rock band could do a MUCH better job considering the keyboards and the harmonies. But still I would rather dlc.

#7 Posted by bretthancock (778 posts) -

Love Queen but absolutely no desire to play this game.

#8 Posted by WreckinRodRumbler (121 posts) -

Honestly, I'd rather have Rock Band do a Queen Game. After all, it was a part of their online survey that included Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and The Eagles.

Let's see how much they can fuck this game up :-/

Change that to Rock Band: Queen and I will listen

#11 Posted by zudthespud (3281 posts) -

Straws. Activision be graspin'.

#12 Posted by claudius (185 posts) -

What I'm hoping is that that was just a mistranslation, or the person who wrote that article just assumed Brian May meant Guitar Hero because it's more prominent in Europe than Rock Band, because Rock Band would be such a better fit for a Queen game. Especially since Rock Band has keyboards and harmonies.

Jesus...these games are the same now-a-days. Give it a break! GEEZ!

#17 Posted by FuzzyLogic (47 posts) -

Damn, I may need to purchase another Guitar Hero game. Haven't done that since 3.
#18 Posted by DukeTogo (1504 posts) -

As long as Paul Rogers is not in it.

Fucking A!

Guitar Hero? SO we can assume that there won't be Freddie Mercury, and he'll be replaced with Paul Rodgers- Just like Michael Anthony was in Guitar Hero: Van Halen... Fuck Guitar Hero.

Yeah, exactly.  RB3 is making old music games obsolete.  Harmonix needs to make this to do it justice, especially with vocal harmonies and keys implemented.

Sadly, that's not going to be the way it goes.  This'll end up screwed up like GH: Van Halen.
#22 Posted by XaiaX (111 posts) -
@Yocahu: "Guitar Queen!"

I wouldn't be surprised if they just can't remember which is which and it's really a RB game. What with the piano and the "real guitars" and all that.
#23 Posted by skrutop (3615 posts) -

Said this before in the RB forums.  There's enough Queen in Rock Band that this game is totally unnecessary.

#24 Posted by Toms115 (2316 posts) -

making money out of dead guys is so hip.

#25 Posted by MikkaQ (10294 posts) -

As a huge Queen fan, it's disapointing to hear that their dedicated game's coming out of Guitar Hero.  RB3's engine would have been SO good for this.

What are you talking about? There's only like 10 songs as DLC.
#27 Posted by Superdude201 (62 posts) -

Would have been an instant buy without seeing anything if it was Rock Band. Seeing as it's guitar hero i'm going to have to wait and see what sort of quality it'll be. Hopefully it'll be mistranslation cause a while ago Brian May said he was in discussions with Harmonix over a Queen themed Rock Band game.

#28 Posted by MadeinFinland (839 posts) -

Please be Rock Band, not Guitar Hero. If it's Guitar Hero than I have a problem of patriotics.

#29 Posted by TheLawnWrangler (1657 posts) -

Well i'll buy it, i guess. As long as It's Late and The Hero are in it

#30 Posted by kelbear (496 posts) -

Give me GH: Journey.

Yup.  That's about right.

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

#33 Posted by TheGreatGuero (9130 posts) -

Better than Green Day, at least. Hopefully they don't butcher it like they did with Van Halen.

#34 Posted by MisterMouse (3554 posts) -

a journey mix would be cooler...

#35 Posted by zityz (2360 posts) -

Activision is doing what Activision does best. Ruin franchies and run them into the ground.

I gave up on Guitar hero games. Rock Band 3 is where the genre is pushing forward and trying to branch out to everyone instead of adding one new feature each year with a new setlist of music.

Oh and yes, Rock Band NEEDS The Eagles and more Journey. I want to play Life in the Fast Lane and Seperate Ways Dammit.

#36 Posted by jonnyboy (2920 posts) -

I really like Guitar Hero but I'll be the first to say without a piano there's no point to this. Furthermore if you're buying a Queen music game it might as well be Singstar: Queen, May's riffs were good, but who wants to be anyone but Freddie in a Queen game?

#37 Posted by Afroman269 (7387 posts) -

It would make better sense to have it on RB but RB already has the songs from then that I want so no thank you sir.

#38 Posted by JJOR64 (19001 posts) -

Why in the holy mother of fuck does Guitar Hero have to do the Queen game?

#39 Posted by DannyJ (445 posts) -

While I really wish it were on RB, I can deal with GH as long as they do it right

#41 Posted by TheLawnWrangler (1657 posts) -

actually, now that i think about it, this was a terrible idea on anyones part if there's no keyboard in Guitar Hero, when there happens to be one for Rock Band, and Queen likes piano parts.

WHO IS AT FAULT HERE>!!?!

#42 Posted by Burrobean (58 posts) -

I'll add my Yawp to the chorus:  Harmonix could do these guys justice with the RB3 features and their level of polish.  Guitar Hero?  The game that decided it needed giant man-pigs as an improvement?  No thanks.

#43 Posted by _Horde (839 posts) -

Nooooooooooooo, don't let Guitar Hero defiiiiileee yoooou!

No way man. I need to be able to play every single Queen song before I'm happy.

FFFFUUUUUCCCCCKKKKK  YYYYYEEEEESSSSS!!!

Also, folks, the whole Van Halen thing was Eddie's doing, not Neversoft.

Also also...fuck ANYONE who talks shit about Paul Rodgers.  Love me some Bad Company, and he's done just fine with the "Queen + Paul Rodgers" stuff.

#46 Posted by PJ (1146 posts) -

For those wondering. May said: "  – Vi har uppfunnit ett sätt att låta datorspelsanvändarna delta under våra konserter, men jag kan inte säga mer än så nu. Det är hemligt."
And that translates to : "-We have invented a way to let gamers to participate in our conserts, but I cant say more then that right now. Its a secret"
He never said anything about a Guitar Hero game, the writer just came to that conclution because before that quote there was a statement "  Nästa år lanserar Brian May en ny version av datorspelet Guitar her o" And that translates to "Next year Brian May will release a new version of the video game Guitar Hero"
So Brian May never said Guitar Hero or when its coming out.

Sure hes done FINE but hes not even close to as good as Freddie was, dude, they arent even in the same fucking galaxy. No one will ever be able to replace Freddie, the man whit the greatest voice on the planet.
