    This last week I've been doing nothing but playing a guitar given to me as a gift. When I get home the first thing I do is plug it into the amp and start practicing chords and scales, then I move onto a composition I'm putting together.  I'm getting to a point to where I can move from chord to chord and playing scales in tempo.   So far I can't go an hour without my fingers turning cherry red and stinging like a bitch, but the pain feels good.  

    So any of you guys who are experienced guitar players have any tips to help me practice with?
