    Overview

Gyakuten Kenji 2 is the sixth game in the Ace Attorney franchise and a direct sequel to Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth. The game was released in Japan for the Nintendo DS on February 3, 2011 by Capcom but unlike the previous entries in the series the title was not localized for English territories. Years later, Gyakuten Kenji 2 was ported to iOS and Android devices devices along with the first game in 2017.

    English Release

Capcom USA's Senior Vice President Christian Svensson stated that Capcom would not be localizing Ace Attorney Investigations 2 on the Nintendo DS citing, "the costs of localization are higher than the forecasted return." Although in subsequent interviews Svensson said that niche titles like AAI2 are good candidates for digital distribution and had reportedly been in talks to convince Capcom to release AAI2 on other platforms. However, producer Motohide Eshiro later explained that the reason AAI2 was not localized was actually not because of costs but was instead due to scheduling issues. He stated that the game's development team was disbanded after its release and that the members were assigned to different projects so,"they weren't in a position to localize."

Due to Capcom's lack of an official release, a dedicated team of translators and hackers from the Ace Attorney fandom started work on an unofficial English localization for Gyakuten Kenji 2 in 2011. The ambitious project took several years to complete but after several beta releases the team posted their final patch on February 17, 2015 which translated the entire game into English, including all the text and voices.
