What is H1Z1? Is it DayZ?

So, my understanding of it from reading the threads on Reddit is that prior to the release of the game, SOE was out there saying that the game was not "pay to win," that players could only get ammo/etc from the world, stuff like that, and that in-game purchases were going to be for cosmetic items and the like. They were saying this publicly as recently as a couple of days ago. Lo and behold, streamers who bought the game and purchased air drops with real money were getting - you guessed it - guns and ammunition from the crates. Needless to say, people who bought the game were upset at the apparent bait-and-switch and started demanding refunds.

Looks like they have thoroughly cocked this game up before it's even officially out. If not from a gameplay standpoint then from a PR standpoint.

So it's a free to play game but you have to pay $20 to play it in early access? Lame...

The thing about the crates is that they spawn from a C130 flying over the map which basically broadcasts to the whole server that some free shit is about to drop. Then a crate falls from the sky with a bright flashing light for at least a minute and can be seen for miles. So even though you technically paid for these items, you still have to FIGHT for it.

Free to play + Microtransactions are a cancer to this industry.

Unfortunately this crap is not going away anytime soon.

@rafaelfc: if it's poorly implemented... Yeah... But the are plenty of great free to play games which wouldn't have seen so much support if they were released with the traditional model.

@yesiamaduck: Planetside 2 comes to mind. I have spent nothing on that game and have gotten about 100 hours of fun out of it. Sometimes I just log in and sit in an AA turret at some random base and take potshots at nearby aircraft for hours while listening to podcasts.
