My guess for the release date of this game is fall of 2009, what is yours?
Game » consists of 2 releases.
What time is "when it's done?" I agree with everyone here, I can't imagine it not releasing in 2009, but any time before Summer is probably unrealistic.
November 09. Just a gut feeling. At worst early 2010.
2010 then it will be delayed to 2012 and steam will crash
You heard it here folks! <----- prediction
Whenever Valve is confident they have completed their masterpiece.

Oh man, has it really been that long since Episode 2. Jeeez!
My guess is that Valve is going to release Half-Life 3 (or Episode 3) with a totally new engine in early 2014. The Source engine is now nearly a decade old, and even though Valve has done a fantastic job keeping it looking great I do think that it's finally time for something new. I can't see them bringing out an new engine that would be hindered by the boundaries of modern consoles. So it would make sense for them to wait until the next generation of consoles are on the market, and tweak the new engine to fit the latest hardware.

I imagine the engine won't be too different, more or less a "Source 2.0", with a significant amount of features to warrant the extra digits. The framework on that engine is incredibly fucking solid, looking at the past 10 or so years it's been used proves that. And as much as I dislike you're opinion that they're waiting for the new consoles, you're most likely right. They have to play to the console market to get the most out of their game, but the PC-snob in me just hopes they don't fuck it up like id did for Rage. :(

I do think that the next engine will be more of a leap than a step. We have to remember that Source was released before the advent of multi-core processors for example. And yes, I don't wish that Valve would plan it's future according to the console market, but they pretty much have to at this point. I've never played a Valve game on a console, it just seems wrong somehow. But I recognize that even with the powerhouse of Steam, Valve needs to release simultaneously on consoles to keep the new console customers they have acquired.
Ha, this thread is great. All these guesses from years back that aren't anywhere near what the actual release date will be. If it ever will be released that is.
August, 2014

I agree with how great this thread is. We should keep taking guesses until the day it gets released (assuming it doesn't get cancelled).
October 2013 is my guess.
They will release it August 2012!
No press release, no preview, one day it will just show up on Steam. And then the Internet crashes!
The best part would be how well it would sell simply from word of mouth, if Valve did this. They will release it August 2012!

The accurate year is 20XX
Don't be too certain; it's better to say 2XXX, just to be sure.
